An efficient and painless experience having the tyres fitted at ETB. Fitted while I waited and all done in about 40 minutes.
While I was waiting, two customers came in to have Chinese ditchfinders fitted. One customer was offered Landsail tyres today, or they could get something cheaper tomorrow. I shudder to think what the 'cheaper than Landsail' option is.

The original version of the W211 E Class had fly by wire brakes. There were expensive maintenance issues with the battery system, so they reverted to a more conventional system from the 2006 face-lift. I seem to recall that the SBS unit would only allow a finite number of pedal presses then it would simply stop working and need replacing at ludicrous cost. Yes, that's my recollection too.

Fly by wire brakes? Are they legal now? Seems odd to have separate left and right circuits, normally they are opposite corners. They'd better be - the Giulia QF has been running them since it came out in 2016... They are weirdly hard to modulate for the very last part of stopping in traffic, otherwise you'd never know... Rightly or wrongly I didn't bother with the discs, since they don't have much of a lip on them. Genuine Mercedes pads £62.50 delivered, plus an hour and 10 minutes of my time.

Partly prompted by Alf's recent post regarding upcoming work on his car. The MOT and service are due on the Benz at the end of this month and, while the warning light had not yet come on, I was aware that the back brakes were well worn. No point paying a garage to do this when it is a relatively simple job to do at home so this was the scene on Saturday morning. All straightforward, other than what I found on one of the rear tyres - a chunk missing out of the inside edge of one of them. Can only assume is was caused by a pothole or some debris in the road. Would have been almost impossible to spot with the wheel on the car, so at least it is an opportunity to fix the problem before it goes to the garage. A shame, since there is probably another 8 to 10,000 miles left on them, even allowing for the maintenance of good tread. Two new CrossClimate 2s ordered from Asda tyres for a total of £469 fitted, which was about £40 less than Blackcircles wanted. Being fitted by ETB. ETA. The filthy state of the car is due to it still wearing quite a lot of Herefordshire, which it picked up during an incredibly wet week over New Year. I think I must have brought back quite a lot of their soil and water to the Cotswolds.

Looks good and well-suited to purpose. My old Superb was an excellent mile-eater and family bus.

You might as well stop at the ring if your driving past. Makes for a good place to overnight on the first day too as its about 4/5 hours from Calais. Just make sure the circuit is open. It usually opens in mid March so will depend on when your going and you can stretch the Yetis legs. All 110bhp 1.2tsi dsg horses ready for action... Will probably do it a lot of good.

Glad Jo is OK and I like the new motor.
At a time when we are supposed to be conserving Earth's resources it seems ridiculous to write off the Fiesta for such superficial damage. Definitely a good idea to buy it back and fix it yourself. A niece of mine recently had her Fiesta written off for similarly superficial damage. A complete waste.

A near miss - glad you are OK.
Reminds me. Have I missed it, or has there been a report and pictures of the new Octavia? Keen to see it.

I have only ever driven in Germany in LHD cars and really enjoyed it. Generally, everyone is well-mannered and knows which lane to be in.
I can understand the Yeti from a practically point of view, but knowing the epic choice of German cars you have at your disposal, aren't you tempted to take something a bit more special?
Other than that, my experience of Germany is more business related and in the nort of the country, so I can't comment on much of the touristy stuff. If you do end up in Osnabrück, I can recommend an excellent brewery/ restaurant.

Not a clue this morning.
Yesterday I got it in two, having fallen into the obvious trap on the first go.

Agreed with much of the above especially Jonny's remarks on the Mini.
Thankfully, the cars which interest me the most have already been built.

I fitted some Osram Nightbreakers to our previous Mini. That would have been probably about 10 years ago.
Previous to that, the only bulb changes in living memory were on the MG ZTT estate. That had a removable hatch in each front wheel arch which gave direct access to the back of each headlight fitting.

I am massively impressed with my new Philips OLED907 TV.

Have you tried the dash press test yet? The centre console on my C Class looked great but creaked and flexed to the touch. 'quality' very much only skin deep on mercs these days I was very disappointed with the interior quality of the W213 courtesy car I had earlier this year. Mine is much better.

In one, having remembered the mistake I made last time this was up. The wheels on this example are normally associated with a different number in the name.

I'm hoping not to need the tyre foam but if we do get a puncture then the chances are it'll be in the land of BMW anyway so hopefully there won't be an issue getting a replacement. Well I hope they can do better than BMW UK can regards sourcing suspension airbags for mine - they can't! My mate has sourced some from elsewhere and, for less than the price of one "official" bag from BMW, for the pair!! When a front suspension airbag went on my old Benz it was replaced by a non-genuine part which worked perfectly. I see to recall the owners' forums suggesting that the alternative brand ( can't remember the name ) was better than the original.

What a shocker! Glad Susan is mostly OK.
I know of at least three accidents involving family or friends which have been caused by someone being waved out of a junction. It is always the responsibility of the person being waved out still to check that the road is clear. Clearly the Ford driver is at fault.

Another who loathes wearing a coat in the car. Even if just nipping down the road the coat goes on the back seat. Heated seats is one of the first option boxes I tick.

When time and common sense allow. This time of year the roads are so messy I sometimes don't do much more than a windows and lights wash. When it gets too filthy I do the snow foam and wheel wash routine and this probably happens around every three or four weeks.
One exception is if I am chauffeur for a work trip with colleagues. I can't be nominated driver and turn up in anything other than a pristine car.
In the summer they get a proper wash every two or three weeks.
The Alvis doesn't go out in filthy weather and gets a wipe down before I take it out.
