It looks like I did the same as others. Entered the name of another model by the same manufacturer and then no clue until the reveal at the end. I have only ever associated that name with another, earlier model.

I think that must be a misprint, but good to see someone is getting some value out of it. It is a similar story with my old Skoda Superb estate, which clocked up intergalactic mileage in the first few years after it was sold off from our company fleet. I assume it had a new life as an airport taxi. The annual rate of increase has reduced a little, but still going strong

Sounds similar to my Superb experience from way back whenever. As a head, rather than heart choice, it is difficult to make an argument for anything else. Other than the seats, which had me regularly calling upon the services of my chiropractor.

Other than the grill I quite like that. I enjoyed driving the Tonale we hired in Italy last year and not being a fan of the latest models from MINI I could be tempted.

I wonder what scope there is in the aftermarket world for someone with half a brain and a laptop to bypass the enabling software block?

Excellent choice and a nice colour/ interior combination too. It will be interesting to compare the whole ownership experience.

This has reminded me of my comment above regarding our visit to Suffolk a couple of weeks ago. We left later than planned on the outward journey, so the first A road and B road sections were a bit more 'on it' than I would normally be with wife and daughter on-board. Settled down into cruise control mode for the A421 and A14. 41.6 MPG. The journey back included some scenic Suffolk lanes and villages, then a pleasant non-dual carriageway A road amble back west. 42.8 MPG. These are fairly typical figures for the Benz on a run. A recent A road and motorway trip to Bradford produced this, which again is typical for the type of journey A long motorway trip with the cruise set at 75 will get it up to around 47 MPG. Very happy with that for the type of car it is.

Thanks for this. I think he has now seen the light and will probably get a newer Ranger. Probably something 2011 to 2014 era.

Expecting most input from one particular member on here...
My brother is looking to replace his old Ford Ranger pickup which has almost rotted into oblivion. He has seen a basic spec (no air suspension) Discovery TD5 which he likes the look of. It won't be his main car, but more for occasional farm / garden design duties and dotting about the villages. Might be called upon for the odd trip to Wales. Good idea, or the road to ruin?

Thank John. He has never done a track day before and is not specifically trained in racing technique, so it needn't be an advanced day.

I know he has seen a Virgin Silverstone Experience for £299 which was very much on the radar. Let's say up to £500.

I can't see me wanting to replace the Benz anytime soon (only 57,000 miles and nicely run in) and it is mostly used for longer trips, so an electric replacement would be pointless.
If / when the time comes to go electric, I shall still have the Alvis as the perfectly analogue antidote to modern motoring. So I agree with Ed, get the proper driver's car you want and keep it long-term.

This was today’s figure for a run from the NEC to Suffolk: That's a decent figure. I am taking the Benz on a very similar journey from south Warwickshire to Aldeburgh and Orford tomorrow. Will be interesting to compare the stats.
