Thanks for this. I think he has now seen the light and will probably get a newer Ranger. Probably something 2011 to 2014 era.

Expecting most input from one particular member on here...
My brother is looking to replace his old Ford Ranger pickup which has almost rotted into oblivion. He has seen a basic spec (no air suspension) Discovery TD5 which he likes the look of. It won't be his main car, but more for occasional farm / garden design duties and dotting about the villages. Might be called upon for the odd trip to Wales. Good idea, or the road to ruin?

Thank John. He has never done a track day before and is not specifically trained in racing technique, so it needn't be an advanced day.

I know he has seen a Virgin Silverstone Experience for £299 which was very much on the radar. Let's say up to £500.

My nephew is a F1 fan and would like to do a single seater experience/session for his 21st birthday. Does anyone have any reccomendations?

I can't see me wanting to replace the Benz anytime soon (only 57,000 miles and nicely run in) and it is mostly used for longer trips, so an electric replacement would be pointless.
If / when the time comes to go electric, I shall still have the Alvis as the perfectly analogue antidote to modern motoring. So I agree with Ed, get the proper driver's car you want and keep it long-term.

This was today’s figure for a run from the NEC to Suffolk: That's a decent figure. I am taking the Benz on a very similar journey from south Warwickshire to Aldeburgh and Orford tomorrow. Will be interesting to compare the stats.

I can't help with the motorway passes etc for those countries, but the car looks like it needs to be a Skoda of sort. Octavia or Superb, depending on how much lounge room they want.
They are not the cheapest, but Sixt have always impressed me with the quality of their cars and their service. Absolutely avoid any of the cheapo firms.

I've never seen it called that, went for the name that matches an expensive Italian boat on the 1st go and then gave up. Same here And here

Looks like a very good result out of an unfortunate event.
Agreed that it is difficult to consider anything else in the class and price point after having had a MINI adventure.

In 3. First guess was the car made famous by the tv detective in oxford, second guess too low, third guess spot on. Exactly what I did. I knew when I entered my second guess that it was wrong - don't know why I went ahead with it. The bumpers are different between the two models.

What was it like inside? I appreciate they are far from new, but my only Toyota experience is usually taxi rides in places like Spain and Germany, and the interior material quality is always horrificalyly low-rent... The Prius Uber I rode in in Kent a few months ago was shockingly cheap and nasty. I was surprised. I somehow expected more from Toyota.

Agreed. Unlike a lot of recent electric offerings, it looks like some effort has been made to make this an appealing car, rather than just anodyne transport.
