Can't help, sorry - I have always had it free with the warranty.
But don't all the usual suspects offer it?

They do but just wondered if any were considered better.
I have existing normal breakdown cover with Green Flag but have never used it

I had the AA one for the Gorilla. Never had to use it so no idea if it was anything more than peace of mind.

Having seen it covered on The Money Program I went with "Eversure" for European cover for myself and Tina, in any car we are in, for Europe, they called it premium personal cover or some such. It was £66 for the year.
HOWEVER with regards to the M5 (and Boxster in my case) all these sorts of policies, and some normal ones I looked at for European cover, had an age limit on the car younger than my 06 car - I think it was 16 years max - so if I ever take the Porsche to Europe I'll be using cover bought for the trip, and will for now keep using whaever is cheap from the insurer.
The personal cover options are a good call however for most cars!

However the policy is a personal cover one but UK only. Its the 4 Series we're taking to Europe so no concerns about age limits. I'll have a look at Eversure. I think that insurance is probably the biggest factor to consider when driving at this time of year but I trust our Eurpoean friends to be reasonably competent at road clearing if things turn snowy.

Are you remembering all the things you have to carry in the car for France, like spare bulbs, yellow vests, a UK sticker and probably winter tyres.

Yup, got all those things from my brother in law going over before.
Also got 2 tins of tyre foam.

I hope you have a stop or two booked on the continent so that you aren't trying to cram in 1,000 miles a day. Enjoy the road trip.

Do they still require you to carry a breathalyser too? Or it that Spain? You definitely need a breathalyser still. We stopped to buy some wine near Colmar last month (being partial to a bit of Alsation cremant and riesling) en route back to London in the Mini, and one of our favoured vineyards mentioned it and kindly gifted us a breathalyser as the one I already had was long-expired...

I would recommend getting one of these: www.bipandgo.com/en/Costs little and the convenience is huge, especially with a RHD car.

Where are you going that doesn't involve French motorways? Or are you going via Holland?

Czechia (is that how they spell it now?)
Come out of the tunnel at Calais, straight onto the motorway and through a bit of France (follows the coast past Dunkirk) then Belgium, a small part of Holland then Germany passing Bonn and Frankfurt.
EDIT Actually the times we did it before we took a more northerly route through Germany as I remember passing by Chemnitz. Whichever route it is we'll be at the mercy of Google Maps.

Sounds good! It's weird how you can go along the coastal part of France in the direction of Brussels/Antwerp and not get hit for tolls, but head south and you are into them (better motorways though - its worth the money!).
Good recommendation on the toll device Racing - could be handy!
Edited to add: I've chucked one of the summer fronts (which fit on either end, at a push) in the boot in a bag, as I hate having no spare. It takes away a lot of boot storage, but still leaves more than I'll ever need unless going on holiday in it, in which case I'll load the back seats up, or stuff soft bags around it. I don't fancy waiting on a mobile fitter to find me a really rare tyre size, it would likely take many many hours or not be possible, and being towed due to a puncture is a joke. Tyre foam might occasionally be useful but even then you are supposed to change it very soon!

I'm hoping not to need the tyre foam but if we do get a puncture then the chances are it'll be in the land of BMW anyway so hopefully there won't be an issue getting a replacement.

Well I hope they can do better than BMW UK can regards sourcing suspension airbags for mine - they can't! My mate has sourced some from elsewhere and, for less than the price of one "official" bag from BMW, for the pair!!

I hate to say it but that is pretty much identical to what you get with BMW now and when I got my last puncture - a relatively straightforward screw in the tread, it was useless - didn't inflate the tyre or seal it. It did make a lot of noise and spit odd bits of white fluid out though. I had to get BMW assist to come and drill and plug the hole.

At that age, I'd have done the same, my patience and attitude to risk are very different as I age!
Take it from a mountain biker, its a very rare occurence when any amount of sealant and air seals even the slightest puncture. Most of the car ones I've had/passengered were of the rip the sidewall off, or massive hole in the tread, variety. I can also say from having read the instructions on the Alfa kit that if you follow them, you have no chance, you need to get the puncture at the bottom when you put in the sealant and reinflate. It still won't work mind.

I’ve used the can sealant once back on my 520 and it worked well, enough to get my to the authorised tyre place.
When I got a puncture on the 750, I didn’t have any foam and was too far from my destination for the RFTs, so BMW assist had to sort it. I had a slow puncture on the Range Rover, didn’t bother with the spare and drove a couple of hundred miles home after topping it up, keeping an eye on the tyre pressures the whole time. The only other puncture I’ve had in many hundreds of thousand miles was in a Peugeot 406 back in 1995

When a front suspension airbag went on my old Benz it was replaced by a non-genuine part which worked perfectly. I see to recall the owners' forums suggesting that the alternative brand ( can't remember the name ) was better than the original.

Autodoc is good at tracking down the OE manufacturer, my front control arms for the Audi were Lemforder and has the Audi rings ground off! They were also half the price
