With spectacularly poor timing given the ongoing building works and the lack of resolution on the Evoque, I increased the fleet yesterday.
It is a Dec 18 VW UP Gti in Black, with Panoramic roof, Climate control and Cruise/park pack with 9500 miles - it drove like a new car (some of those I have test driven really didn't feel great at 20k) and is as clean as a whistle.
Full VW history every year at about 2k miles, and majority one lady owner up until March 23 (Googling shows a very prim Bungalow for Mrs Susan Cal*****) so hopefully not ragged. It has 6 months in the hands of a chap who started to tweak things - nicer steering wheel - red badges etc before he traded it in for a AMG Merc 45 I think.
To do list includes replacing the Eco tyres - they are terrible grip/braking and cracks in the grooves and sorting out the shit numberplate - there is one dint on a door which can get sorted in due course. I got some money off to cover some of this
Came from a dealer in Huddersfield - but I am treating it as private sale as I suspect he is a phoenix business - good service though including his getting the service at VW to maintain the unbroken history and definitely at the bottom of his stock - lots of Golf Rs, BMW M4, FF Range Rover, AMG Mercs you get the picture
Tyres aside it drives really well and I was impressed how well it went on the motorway - better tyres will sort the jiggly ride and it has loads of torque with enough oomph to be fun without being too naughty - I really like it

Congratulations Bryan, that looks fun. I presume the M4 convertible didn't drive as you expected - had it rattled itself to bits with the stiff suspension?

To do list includes .... sorting out the shit numberplate Hong Kong 68 kilohertz. Comes form Hampshire, quite possibly sold by the garage chain bearing my name. Hopefully it's a low-mileage bargain

Congratulations Bryan, that looks fun. I presume the M4 convertible didn't drive as you expected - had it rattled itself to bits with the stiff suspension? The BMW had gone before I could get there, right car, wrong timing. I really need Evoque sorted prior to that sort of commitment. The Up is a stretch with the groundworks going on at the moment too

That does look good Bryan. Annoying that you can't just wash your hands of the Evoque now it's effectively in the insurance company's hands to deal with. I'd certainly be pressing HR to stop billing you your company car tax now you have no use of it.
Those number plates really do look awful. I'm all for being patriotic but putting Union Jack's on the number plate of your German car is a bit much.

They are worse in the 4D acrylic believe me! Even more odd is the chap who had it for 6 months has a very French name...

Nice car.
I'm surprised at how scarce they appear to be round here, given how well thought of they were at launch and in group tests. I've only knowingly seen 1 in the past 12 months.

The only modern car I’d realistically want . Great choice

The only modern car I’d realistically want . Great choice Pretty sure the gti badge on the back isn’t standard either It isn't, and neither is the steering wheel but it is professionally covered with perforated leather like my TT. So I don't mind either of those Think the French chap was starting to 'improve' the car, but also OCD about detailing so it is very shiny

The most telling thing is I keep coming up with excuses for a drive....like being a teenager going out for fuel, check tyre pressures etc....except I'm not coming back smelling of fags/mints/lynx!😂

Great looking little car, looks a lot of fun.

Surely you need to have a plate with "GT 1" or "UP" in it ?? UP 01 YRS ? GT18 UPP

GT10 BRY is the favourite in that camp G21 BEM also favourite as more subtle 21 being TI in my head and more flexible to use on other cars if I wanted to. G71, GT11, GT14 not available unfortunately

Very nice Bryan, great little runaround.
Apparently 3D or 4D plates, whatever they are called, can't be picked up by TFL cameras. I'm sure that's what I heard on a collecting cars podcast I was listening too. Sounds too good to be true doesn't it?

Nice, I like those, and if it makes you want to drive it, then little more needs to be said really - job done.
I must admit to the Lupo GTi being a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. Also - less guiltily and more expensively - Audi S1's, which I like despite rarely being an Audi person.
WTF would someone invest in stupid plates and so on, and accept budget tyres? They're a safety issues aside from trashing the enjoyment of the car. Like the ones on the Golf Plus we bought ages ago, bin them!!
