F1 has always gone to random locations so I guess Saudi fits the bill.
Its a great track however. Qualifying was epic with a very un-Perez like lap that was all balls. Schumacher's crash looked nasty but Alonso proved you could make a mistake on those curbs and just about pick the car up in time.
Max and Charlie were epic again. Its all fun for now but its going to get messy between them at some stage. I can see Sainz picking up the odd victory from those 2 clashing.
Russell did well, Hamilton just looked lost on the Saturday with Russell taking a load of time out of him at each corner. Wasn't until about lap 20 in the race that we woke up.
Alonso and Ocon were making their own show, I'm surprised Alpine let them dual for so long but glad they did. Given the entertainment Saudis delivered in the last 2 races it'd be a shame to get rid.

Very nice, only a bit less tan on the dash and Daytona seats rather then diamond stitched leather away from perfection

So Seb misses the Saudi race this year, having missed the previous Middle Eastern round in Bahrain. Given his outspoken and very visible views of the lack of freedoms and rights in these places, I’m betting F1 are breathing a huge sigh of relief he’s not there. If he’s not there because of covid, of course. Nothing like a conspiracy theory to start a race weekend. I wouldn't say there's nothing to see here. Seb turned up to testing looking like he'd spent the entire off season smoking his way around India in a Peace convoy. He's certainly chilled since he left Ferrari and now maybe the politics of F1 are to apposed to his way of life.

He's probably glad to not be there, the car is a dog. As an aside, I was listening to a podcast the other day, someone put the point across that it is thought that part of Aston's problems is a certain Mr. Stroll, he insists on being involved directly with everything, pushing his ideas etc, not just letting the experts that he has employed, get on with it. He certainly strikes me as old school and not a graduate of the carrot school of management. He's obviously a hugely driven bloke that probably isn't as sympathetic to those around him that don't think like him. I wouldn't want to be Martin Whitmarsh but of course he worked with Big Ron for a number of years. Having said that Stroll has worked in creative industries all his life so must know how to get the best of people. I mean F1 must be a doddle compared to dealing with all the oddballs of the fashion game.

As an introvert I kinda enjoyed staying at home, and I tried to take the positives out of it. Our lockdown period coincided with my dad's illness so 1) he got to rest and not work, and 2) we got to spend time together. It also made me realise who are the people that are really important in my life and who are the ones that are not. Right now as we're opening up Covid is spreading around quite rapidly. Up until February I had not had a personal encounter with Covid (it was always other people, not anybody I knew), but since then there have been quite a few friends and colleagues who have gotten it, with varying degrees of sickness. I'm lucky so far in that I have not had it, but I'm just waiting for the inevitable I guess. Not looking forward to being sick though. The effects of Covid in 99.9% of cases is a lot less then the anxiety it causes in so many people. There is no point in missing out on opportunities in life at the small prospect of catching covid. I'm still amazed at a lot of countries Covid measures still in place, they powers that be must know the mental health issues they are causing.

Front end looks like an Epace but the rest of its ok. I miss the days of luxury from Maserati. We need every item in the interior covered in suede cloth, excesses of bright wood and the return of the antique clock. That interior just looks nasty. I rather agree. It ought to be doing it for me, but it doesn't. My problem is that SUVs don't really do it for me in general. I'm prepared to make an exception for the Macan, but only just. Well of course, its a new Maserati which should get any petrolhead excited. But if Alfa & Maserati end up producing bland cars then what's the point in their existence. I see the Alfa Giulia as being the last proper Alfa to be made, whats the last proper Maserati, the Granturismo? Be interesting to see what the new one will become.

I haven't had an android for donkeys' years but really didn't like them at the time. It was an HTC so will probably tell you it was a while ago. Having switched over to an Iphone 5 form the HTC it did wonder why I hadnt done it years before. Everything just worked and as I have the technical knowhow of an gnat thats what I need.
I've upgraded to the all singing all dancing Iphone 13 Pro Max from an iphone 8 plus last year. It might look very similar but the camera is light years ahead. Its got image stabilising in the video format which means you can run and take video without it bouncing. I took a video on the beach the other day whilst running alongside my son and the quality was epic.

I got Covid yesterday for the first time. It sucks, I feel bloody awful. People kept telling me it was no more then a mild cold these days, they lie! Yuk! That is not fun - what symptoms do you have? Very much Flu like symptoms, took a test Sunday night as I had a bit of a sore throat and we've had a number of people in the office off due to covid. I felt fine until yesterday afternoon and then suddenly I'm freezing cold and my teeth are chattering. Slept terribly and woke up this morning feeling like I'm 100 years old. I was so achy I struggled to put my socks on, I'm now sweating like a gypsy with a mortgage.

Decent race to kick off 2022. Shame for Red Bull as I want competition not one team running away with the title and it all sown up by mid season, even if they are Ferrari.
In fact the prospect of LeClerc and Verstappen having a ding dong all season could make it an even better spectacle then last year. I'm still surprised about the negativity towards Verstappen, he's the best thing to happen to the sport since Hamilton. The Ferrari boys actually have a similar driving style to Verstappen so it'll be interesting to gauge the reaction from folk if they start beating on Hamilton.
One things for sure Merc have certainly lost is the Engine dominance. Mercedes must have a decent chassis as all other Merc runners looked dreadfully slow, McLaren are in desperate need otherwise they're going to be battling Williams from the cheap seats this year.

I thought the aid to India stopped some time ago. Something to do with the Indian government not knowing what to do with such a piddling amount and being the fifth largest growing economy in the world etc. For some reason I thought we were still providing circa £150Million in aid but could well be wrong. A pittance in the grand scheme of things but just enough to keep the angry mob raging

Nice to see that we create these sanctions with Russia and still provide aide to India. Admittedly its not a great deal but probably still enough to get homeless people of the street. Oh get me being all Daily Mail.

Fingers crossed your right Jon, I was reading the other day that in the short term they were expecting the price to drop but could go as high as £2.50 if things don't settle down soon.
Whilst we're all in fuel poverty, I see the Indians are buying as much cheap Russian Oil as they can. The cheeky so and so's

Only thing wrong with this one is the gearbox and the steering wheel being on the wrong side. Someone's ticked all the right boxes on the options list, fabulous.

This understanding of Alpina is why in the UK Alpina has never had the following it has had elsewhere. The B5 is based on a 550i, not an M5. It is then given a different engine (with Mahle pistons and other internal changes, like cams and fuelling.), different electronic settings, different dampers, different camber settings, different exhaust treatments, different turbochargers etc. all of which make it dynamically a different prospect to a 550i and nothing like as violent as an M5 can be. It is then also given the cosmetic differences: the front air dam being the most evident, but trims are replaced, there is a much higher spec of leather available and of course two paint colours that are unavailable anywhere else (the blue and the green). The long term Alpina owners and repeat customers in Germany have long made their desires known and the move to electric propulsion is not one of them, as has been cited by Andreas B for some time. That's all very true. In which case why should BMW buy the brand? If they had done nothing it pretty much sounds like it will just whither and die if Alpina won't make the move to EV's? I suppose that leaves BMW buying it out of pity (unlikely) or they can see a business case for the Alpina brand within BMW. As they already have "M" as the "turbo-nutter-bastard-hard-edge-performance" arm, the only place Alpina could sit is as a quick but luxury arm. Its not my understanding, I'm fully aware of what Alpina is now bit can you really see BMW doing the same? I can only see BMW giving the option of a more comfy M car and badge it as an Alpina or to have a an arm like MSO where they do bespoke trimming and carbon bits and some ECU upgrades with full Warranty from the factory.

Targa Florio, Daytona, Rallied at the Monte, Le Mans, F1 and even got to experience 240MPH in a 917. What a life!

Do BMW not already offer a sort of in house Alpina with cars like the 550i? I see Alpina being nothing more then a spec option on M and M light cars.

Not sure the Mag was much kop last time out. Maybe a bit harsh, He's not Hamilton on Verstappen but a decent peddler like most of the field. I think he'll be fast enough to worry Schumacher. He's certainly good entertainment.

The company I work for is led by a female Managing Director who is very big on IWD, so we have 'celebrated' it every year for the last 3 years. Our gender split for employed colleagues is over 90% female and under 10% male. We have "Inspiring Women of [company name]" awards, where women in the company are nominated in line with each of our four company values and then a winner in each category is chosen. All nominees receive an M&S voucher or similar. There is no similar set of awards for "Inspiring Men" or even "Inspiring People" at this company. I've no issue with promoting/awarding those in a minority to create a more diverse culture but to have awards specifically for woman only in a woman dominated environment seems a little much. Still I'm sure the environment you work in has its advantages!

I refer to Putin deliberately. I have every sympathy with Russia and Russians in this nightmare, as I do with Ukrainians. When I see Liz Truss proclaiming that we need to degrade and cripple the Russian economy, I cringe at the sheer wrongheadedness and lack of tact in those statements. It seems to me the only possible weapon we have against Russia is to squeeze them financially. Change can only come from within. There's a danger the sanctions will only strengthen Putins power but its a risk we take. I see Musk is turning off charges in Russia and giving free electric to Ukrainian drivers. I've no idea if this is possible and I don't imagine Teslas are very popular in downtown Kiev but its a good start. I look forward to other companies doing similar.
