As I pointed out to Mrs Sacamano this morning; every day she's married to me is a cause for her celebration.

I can’t actually tell if that’s a piss take or not but I’m looking forward to reading Twitter posts with the hashtag #InternationalMensDay in November. I reckon my phone will catch fire.

I don't know why anyone needs a special day, we're all just meatbags stood atop a spinning, dying rock, hurtling towards an inevitable fiery doom.

I don't know why anyone needs a special day Card makers/sellers: They use it to try to boost sales: Grandparents' day, world peace day, world pet day...... whatever, they will find an "excuse" to try to get us to buy cards. Personally, the only thing I think I can celebrate today is a nice, shiny new MoT Certificate (?) for the Kuga

The company I work for is led by a female Managing Director who is very big on IWD, so we have 'celebrated' it every year for the last 3 years. Our gender split for employed colleagues is over 90% female and under 10% male.
We have "Inspiring Women of [company name]" awards, where women in the company are nominated in line with each of our four company values and then a winner in each category is chosen. All nominees receive an M&S voucher or similar.
There is no similar set of awards for "Inspiring Men" or even "Inspiring People" at this company.

There was someone on Twitter my wife showed me who was putting the published gender pay gaps in a tweet directly below each company who out out an IWD tweet.

Although it would be a brave man who would bring that allegation to the table! Yesterday was my wife's birthday so it was all about a particular woman yesterday in our house.

Sounds standard to me. It's only discriminatory of minority or popular activists say it is. Not the only example of that. I still believe we should be past this kind of bovine but logic gets trumped and not a thing can be done about it.

I've no issue with promoting/awarding those in a minority to create a more diverse culture but to have awards specifically for woman only in a woman dominated environment seems a little much. Still I'm sure the environment you work in has its advantages!

The biggest issue with IWD seems to be that nobody dares to actually define what a woman is any more. Two Labour front benchers tied themselves in knots avoiding answering the "what is a woman" question.
Which means that Dan's solution is simply to identity as a woman and then he can win all the awards. And if he doesn't, just scream "trans-phobia" and you'll get the MD arrested sharpish.

One of my (male) peers in a different department was recently given a haranguing by our MD about some comments that she thought some of his team members had made which she perceived to be sexist, only that it wasn't actually his team members who had made these comments (it was people in someone else's team, and this was somebody who actually reported to her). I suggested to my peer that he told her that (a) it wasn't any of his team members, and (b) calm down, dear... Unfortunately, he lacked the balls.

As someone who lived in Russia for several years, I am well aware of IWD, and always wish my wife IWD, not least because Italians are also reasonably keen on it. She doesn't necessarily get special flowers for the same reason as W2.1, as she gets them regularly enough anyway and often as part of the weekly shop! In Russia, IWD is accompanied by "Defenders of the Fatherland Day", which occurs around the same time of the year and is effectively Russia's "men's day". In the office in Moscow, on IWD all the women in the office would receive vast bunches of flowers on their desks, and on DFD, we men would also receive something. Once it was some fairly evil Armenian cognac. On another occasion, it was a Russian Railways glass and silver gilt tea mug adorned with the double-headed eagle of imperial Russia, which I still have.
