So....bit more detail. The standard spec is pretty reasonable on the R, highlights include: - Adaptive LED Headllights / LED Rear Lights - Adaptive Cruise Control - Front & Rear Parking Sensors - Sat Nav with Speed limit display - Apple Car Play - Active Info Display (digital dash) - Dual zone climate control - Ambient Lighting inc footwell lights and illuminated sills - Rain and light sensors / Auto dimming mirror - Folding Mirrors with puddle lights - Winter Pack (Heated seats and washer jets) I went quite conservative with the options, as I wanted to keep it under £40k list as a matter of principle due to the ridiculous tax system. - Atlantic Blue Metallic - 19” Pretoria Alloys in Silver - Dynamic Chassis Control (Adaptive Dampers) - Vienna Leather - Electric drivers seat with Memory - Dynaudio Sound Pack - Keyless Entry and Start

Looks very nice and understated. I see you decided to leave the R badges on for now, which I think you should as they are very subtle.
And ooooh. Ferrari seats again. Life does come full circle eventually......

Life does come full circle eventually...... I'm still debating whether or not to de-badge mine, so plenty of time yet! Though I agree the 'R' badging is very subtle, and it also occurs that anyone who sees the seat badging would then wonder what was going on! (A good enough reason for doing ti, now I think about it )

Looks fantastic and pretty much a perfect all rounder
Agree with some that £40k seems a lot for a hatchback but I'm completely out of sync with car prices now and given the performance, luxury etc it offers it probably represents good value relative to some other options!

I got about £6k off including the deposit allowance, so £34,500. It initially felt like a lot for a Golf, but it is a great car and felt like decent value for money when I’d driven it.
It helps that the budget increased quite a bit over time so it was well under a number I’d decided on as a max.....so it was a good man maths saving!

The new tax system is bloody stupid. That's a polite way to describe it. Somebody should have told the Treasury that "rich" people - if buying a car over £40k makes you rich then WTAF - already pay more tax when they buy a car. It's called VAT you cretins. This was nothing more than a stealth tax. Company car buyers are not specifically affected by it (as far as I am aware, although I know he did muck about with the bands, so they may have suffered in other ways). The real hit was on private buyers, who are royally screwed. And of course like all allowance limits, the £40k has never been increased since it was introduced, causing tax creep to add insult to injury. Useless fucking bastards to the lot of them.

Nein, ich bin nicht eifersüchtig. Good! Might be different if was silver..... Do they do silver yet? I saw a metallic grey one earlier. I also saw they're planning on binning the 3 door version in conjunction with the WLTP engine mods.

You should see all the colours you can get in Canada!

Those wheels are fab and a total no brainer given how naff the standard 18s look.
Nice colour too, very much like JLR Loire blue in the way it sparkles in the sunlight
I’d have been deeply tedious and gone for “ hides the dirt, can’t see the swirls” silver or grey

Hopefully.

The salesman I dealt with recently was seething about it. He commented that a Mustang V8 can slip under the threshold but a range extender i3 can be charged the full whack. Also annoying as it assumes people pay list.
