I think it's on the Readly app now (as is evo and Autocar) so I can read it without actually buying the magazine. Or spending 20 minutes in the newsagent! Link for you....just forget what I said earlier. AE Group TestR is very quick in gear, Almost identical to mine. Although I wouldn’t want a 0-60 or 0-100 drag race against one !

I wonder why the little strakes are missing from the front bumper on the MB? Pedestrian protection issues?

I had ice on the windscreen of the Fiesta this morning. All the other windows were totally clear, no condensation or mist.
Just come back from my lunchtime walk, I didn't need to take my jacket. The weather app on the phone says it's 16C outside, and there is a cloudless sky to go with it. Glorious !

Maybe the strokes were a bit too far even for Mercedes?

Yup, can only have 19s with the Aero Pack. The early press cars had them on but this one doesn't...

Same here, all season tyres are definitely the way to go. I have Pirelli All Seasons on the BMW and they have been excellent as well. 17c yesterday and happy with the grip/traction, no issue with full bore exits from roundabouts. The Crossclimate+ is an excellent tyre. Weather is very variable, had to scrape ice off the windows this morning! I had my reservations about them on a more performance oriented car but I now think they are excellent. My issue this morning was traction from FWD on the cold, greasy surfaces. I rather missed AWD at times!

Crossclimate+ are some £30+ dearer than decent summer rubber, so I'm wondering now are they seriously worth the extra cash? I know it's only £30 a corner, but every penny seems to be a prisoner right now .. .. ..

Probably a little bit of a horsepower lottery going on. I doubt all these cars have exactly what it says on the tin out of the factory. Some cars, especially VAG ones can dyno higher outputs than their standard figures. Also one's a dry race and one's wet, so could just be down to tyres hooking up better in thos respective conditions.
I doubt that silly wing on the Merc helps much either!

Much cleaner than mine. It could have done with a wash after last weeks trip to Prescott but I’ve goes Autoglass coming to repair the bumper tomorrow so I thought I’d leave it until next weekend.

I gather confession is good for you and I don’t mind admitting it when I break my own rules. So today I broke my OEM only rule and did a ‘mod’. One thing that does annoy me when driving the Golf is the small plastic paddles. The closest to an OEM replacements is VWR (Volkswagen Racing) who will sell you some aluminium paddles for £190. I found out that you can get ones that are very similar from Aliexpress, but the quality is very variable, however I spotted a link to some that were supposed to be good for around £20. When I opened the link, they were £8.85 delivered (£8.94 in the end), so there wasn’t anything to lose in giving them a try. Delivery was 4-6 weeks, but I ordered them on the 27th May and they arrived today. They are spot on, fit nice and tight without and flex or wobble and work perfectly. Only driven it around the block to check all was well, but I can tell straight away that they are going to be so much better than the standard paddles. Only took me a couple of minutes to change over as well.

Not sure how concerned to be, really, but you could always blank off the satnav screen in the first pic so your location isn't visible.

Martin needn't worry Stu, he's rendered his car worthless after that mod. It is a mystery to me why neatly all manufacturers get paddles so wrong. It may well be the most touched object in the cabin so wouldn't it be sensible to spend the money on some nice proper aluminium paddles rather then cheap plastic attached to the steering wheel. Probably the only area of cabin quality that Alfa Romeo lead the way.

Perhaps they realise from focus studies, user groups and surveys that in actual fact it is the LEAST touched object in a car that changes gear itself so spend money on it accordingly

Totally agree re cheap plastic paddles. BB - I use the paddles a lot in both cars.

So how do they fit on? Are they attached to the old paddles or do you remove those first? You can get stick on ones, but they look awful and can ruin the original paddles. The paddles clip in then the hinge is secured by a plastic pin, so as long as you've got some narrow nose pliers they're quick/easy to change. They’re fairly simple, but is easy to get the hinge position and hole diameter wrong and some are poorly finished as well.

Not a mod this time, a ‘Lifestyle Accessory’. The Golf gets 65% rear window tints as standard, with 95% as an option which I didn’t want. What I didn’t know is it’s just a tint, it’s not like the sun protection glass I’ve had in BMWs so it’s pretty useless when it comes to keeping the sun off the little ones face. I have a (irrational maybe as it’s very strong) hatred for stick on blinds, especially brightly coloured or character ones, so I needed to find a better solution. Didn’t take long, proper fitted blinds aren’t that expensive and they’re quick / easy to fit and take back off. It looks a bit darker from the outside, but it’s like a darker tint unless you’re very close which is what I wanted. They fit nicely And you can drop the windows when they’re fitted which is handy, as it’s good to be able to drop all the windows when the car has been left parked in the sun.
