We have decided to keep the MX-5 for the foreseeable future. It is worth 2 parts of fuck all, but it also costs us very little to keep on the road. Insurance is just over £100 a year plus tax and servicing MOT I reckon less than £500 not including fuel. I drove it the other day and it can still put a smile on my face and Lindsey still likes it. I will get the rusty bits looked at and sorted. Discovery is on eBay and I will let that go. It hardly gets used and is quite expensive to insure and run. Lindsey has always wanted a 4x4 so I will get her something nice for her daily driver and the Mazda will be the fun car. I've spotted this which is in my newly revised budget. www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202305127282873?atmobcid=soc3

Sounds like a good plan. That RR is lovely.

Makes sense and the (proper) RR you’ve linked to is a million times nicer than a Sport.

Ooh yeah!
If I lived up in your neck of the woods I’d seriously consider a RR full fat. Keep us posted.

Good engine. That's cheap for a reason. Scottish car and MOT history reads poorly.

That second one is nice, but too far away. If there are any issues then a local dealer would be a lot easier.

The trouble with the black ones is they look like a London Metrocab from the rear.

I've been told no black ones.

I've been told no black ones. Well, you're not a drug dealer (are you?).

Nice but it needs the pimp glass and a darker tan or black leather interior for my taste. Don't these sometimes come with a supercharged engine?

I like the way they say they’ll deliver it to you on their trailer. That’ll be to get you used to the sight of it being taken away on a trailer!

I'm slightly surprised the ad doesn't have 'Find another!' stated towards the end of the description.

Not surprised that the Autobiography has gone. The Vogue SE looks good, though. Certainly worth holding out for one of these over an 'ordinary' Vogue.

I'm also holding out for a 4.4 TDV8 due to the lesser chance of potentially ruinous engine issues.

Yes. That's why I am holding for the 4.4 diesel and not the 3.6. It needs to be a diesel as I don't want the petrol bill of towing the caravan with a V8 petrol.

Full on Asian spec as my Pakistani friend would say. I can just about get away with white RR Sports, but not on the full fat version.

Happy to stand corrected - but the 4.4 V8 is just a development of the 3.6 (like when the 2.7 went to 3.0). Both engines will eventually need new turbos - so I would be hunting down a car with FSH and a bill for recently fitted turbo replacement.
The least borky engines are the Jag derived 4.4 and 4.2 AJ33 units - called AJ41. The earlier BMW V8s are junk and the later 5.0 V8s have a few foibles on the earlier editions.
Exhibit A m'lud (late 4.4 V8 poo'd it's blowers)
Best tip - buy one off Matt at High Peak Autos

Yes, I watch his videos. My understanding is the turbos will go on the 4.4, but they don't usually take the engine with it like they do on the 3.6 as the setup is different.
If the right 3.6 came up (like that AB that has just sold) then I would seriously consider it but it would have to be good.
Just put the Mazda through WBAC and it came back at £2k. I added the damage it has and it was revised at £300. Yeah, we are keeping that it seems.

Isn’t the Westminster just a run out Vogue with a couple of bits added? My 4.4 was completely fault free…you’ll be fine! I’d be more worried about rust (wheelarch / tailgate I think?) than anything else, especially with your history!

We need privacy glass for the dogs and I'm trying to avoid Scottish cars as they salt the roads more than we do here. One of the reasons I'm prepared to look at a southern car.
It wouldn't be the first time - the E500 was bought long distance and that didn't give me many issues after the warranty sorted the gearbox and suspension.
Driver seats seem to wear. You can tell the ones that have been looked after or not driven by a fat bastard. 😂
White is an instant deal breaker. Lindsey would be happy with a black one - it's just me having had two black cars in the past saying no to that. She would prefer a darker interior for practicality and I can't argue with that. It must be age, but I really fancy that champagne colour with brown leather.
