Probably not a fair comparison, but I don’t think the recent crop of Lambo V12s sound anything as awesome as this does.
Whenever I think of a V12, this is the noise that always accompanies the thought.

Easy to forget how they were THE supercar back in the early 90’s and a real rarity.

I'm going to watch that this evening. I'm really enjoying Harry's Farm, too.

Another great video. I really like the Carerra GT and find it appeals much more than the 918 which feels just a little bit clinical in comparison and of course doesn’t have an intoxicating blend of F1 derived V10 and old school manual gearbox. Fifteen years later and it still looks great too.

Just watched this:
Followed by this:
Amazing how different the vids are in terms of quality. The second is from 2012 and the sound, resolution and frame rate are all terrible!

Harry has just done a preview of an auction of some very interesting cars coming up this Saturday (some serious Mercs and BMW's):

Why is it I find that Ami 6 really appealing?
Loving the E28 Alpina though think its been on the market a couple of times over the last few years.

The CSK is highly want-able.

JK's Alpina - much want for the interior trim.

As an aside, I saw an E30 M3 today.

The M5 competition video was pretty surprising, quite different to other reviews. Interesting because I think Harry generally has a better living with the car in real world view on cars than the magazines. I wonder if he’d have thought slightly differently if the price was in the £70s, which is more the market value for an M5?
The ride looked terrible when he started off in the Project 8 and the it looked to be moving all over the place, but it clearly puts a smile on his face. Or he’s trying to bolster residuals!

The price did make me think that someone buying one new is going to be taking quite a hit, especially if they fail to tick the box for Competition spec. It is a very nice car though and certainly very quick but the digital dash looks crap. I tried one in the latest 3 series and wasnt impressed with that one either. I prefer the JLR approach of the animation being of actual dials.

It would have been so easy to make it much better without going silly with the amount you can configure.

When it comes to dials and configurability I feel that the makers are catering for teenagers and those in their early 20s whereas the people actually buying those cars are usually the generation above - when did you last see a 20 something in a 3 series? Aren't most Fiesta class cars still on analogue dials?

Mine has digital analogue looking dials and I far prefer them to the new BMW offering.

I watched that Harry's Garage video a couple of days ago. Hillclimbs are such good fun and the way that Jag gets off the line is very impressive.

I've wondered more than once how much quicker you could have been up Doune hill with a paddle shifter John? One second, or maybe more? No idea if they're even allowed, or if it's strictly manual boxes only.

I've wondered more than once how much quicker you could have been up Doune hill with a paddle shifter John? One second, or maybe more? No idea if they're even allowed, or if it's strictly manual boxes only. When I was hillclimbing you could have any gearbox you liked. However at that time paddle shifters were the thing of dreams and there were only a couple of guys who had automatics and they were just there for the fun and never at the sharp end. There were a few motorbike engined Westfields/Caterhams and some single seaters which used crash boxes without the clutch on the way up the box and only used the clutch at the start and on downshifts. Without doubt a modern day paddle shifter would be quicker. In a 1400cc Road legal Nova I got my time down to a class record 50.81s which was only 0.2s behind the hill record for the next class, road cars up to 2 litres. I so wanted to break 50s but I was already close to the limit. It took nearly 20 years, modern tyres and a change of regs allowing perspex instead of glass, rear seats to be removed and fibreglass panels before that record was broken. A friend of mine has bought a Caterham 620R with the sequential box (still with a gear lever) and that is totally bonkers with a speed and severity of gear change that takes your breath away. However I think the ratio of power to grip is so high it would be very difficult to pilot it up Doune and get anywhere near a record without serious risk of death. I am very respectful of the hill since another friend with a Westfield wrapped it round a tree after losing control in the tunnel when he hit some green tarmac under the trees at the first meeting of the year. He spent a considerable period of time in a plaster cast.

Appreciate the answer John. I'm not sure I ever had quick enough reactions to drive something quickly up that (or any other) hill, but I certainly don't now!! Wouldn't say no to passengering in one, if it was ever offered.

Here's a 350Z which went up in just under 55s. The final time can be seen on the time clock on the left just before the enter the paddock at the top of the hill.
