They’re great but the more I watch the more jealous I get! I’m sure he works very hard for it but he is one lucky bugger to have such a collection. His Esprit is a great example and looks absolutely amazing.

Anyone else watched the 2 part arctic circle episode? I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The back end looks so much better now and makes you realise how fat the last model looked from behind.

Yes, I really like the new Continental. Ideally a couple of bits of styling would be a bit better and I agree with him about the plastic grilles, but look like a lovely place to spend time.

Anyone seen the combine harvester video? Fascinating. Not yet but I enjoyed the tractor one. I thought a Lexus had a lot of gears but his Case has 17 forward and 7 reverse!

Watched the combine one too. It was somewhat amusing seeing how much he was bounced around when going down the road. But scary to see all the machinery inside, doesn’t make you want to get caught up in one.

Great stuff! It is many, many years since I last drove a combine, but it always an enjoyable way to spend the day; assuming the air conditioning does not break down...
The inner workings beyond the header are much the same as on a Victorian threshing machine. Threshing drum and concave, followed by sieves, wind and straw walkers. When you combine the old reaper machine with a threshing machine, you have a combined harvester which does both jobs together.

That is remarkably few by modern standards. The Massey Ferguson I used to drive in the late 1990's had 32 gears in each direction! Four main gears, each split with four 'Dynashift' speeds on the column stalk, then the whole lot over again in low range for field work. The forward-reverse shuttle gives you the whole lot again in the other direction. Edit: my Series IIa Land Rover I had at the time had 16 forward and four reverse gears.

Not all of those usable unless you wanted to risk breaking the overdrive!

Harry’s treated us to two videos this week. It’s fair to say he’s rather taken with the new Alpine but won’t be ordering an R8 anytime soon.

I didn't like the Alpine when I first saw it at Geneva, however it's grown on me and sounds properly awesome to drive.
R8 does sound pretty disappointing, apart from the V10

I had a good look around an Alpine a couple of weeks Avila and it looks better than is does in pictures and does sound good to drive but the quality is miles off a Cayman and I’d worry about how long it would feel fresh.

I like the look of the Alpine, but then I'm old enough to remember the car on which it is based. I'm pretty sure that the French Police used to use them on the autoroutes, from the days when we went on our annual family holidays across France way back in the late 60's and early 70s

The Megane I had a fews back stood up reasonably well to 85k miles over 3 years with the main sign of wear being the hole I wore in the leather gear knob so modern Renault’s aren’t too bad quality wise. But I agree a Cayman probably feels the more quality car.

Watched the XE Project 8 video last night. It is clearly a very good car, but it is such a shame that JLR decided their development ££ would go on that rather than bringing out a desirable and more mainstream M3 / C63 competitor. That would surely have required a load less trick engineering, so would have been a cheaper to re-engineer and a better halo car then the Project 8.

They obviously can’t sell them all, because they’re turning 20 (15% of total production) into race cars for the over 50s. There has got to be a joke or two in that!

I presume you have to be over 50 because they are the only people they reckon will be able to afford them! Even though I am now in that bracket I can't afford one but I am happy to put my name forward to race one if they are looking to make up the numbers.
