My parents had a P38a twenty years ago and it was pretty shit. But that was two models ago so I think times will have changed.

I don't think it will disappoint for the simple reason that they feel more special than the rivals and you appreciate that every time you see it or get in. I really like Range Rovers those I know who have them buy them again and again because of the experience they offer. Enjoy it - you've deserve it! Thanks Michael.

When do you pick it up? Try and see if the dealer will chuck in a half day course at Eastnor for you, well worth the experience and the RRS I took round was truly epic.

A half day in a RR is part of the deal already as it comes with every approved used car (Full day if you order a new one)

You learn something new every day. Dad's was, I think, 1997 vintage. I have a memory of barrelling along the fast lane of the autostrada between Genoa and Milan at 100 or so in it one day only to glance in the rear view mirror and realise I was creating my own personal fog-bank as I did so thanks to some leak or other that had just materialised.

You'll have an amazing time - Try to get over to Eastnor - the track and facilities are amazing and so much better than a carpark with rocks at the other experience centres

I did it in a Discovery 4 many years ago and really enjoyed it. I’ve got a handover video to watch...all part of the Covid handover plan. I’ve been set up on InControl so have full contact with the car. Good amount of functionality on the app and the Tracker is built into it as well, but not sure when I’ll ever want to use the phone to move the back seats, ski hatch and centre armrest up & down.... Looking forward to Remote Climate. It uses a fuel burning heater to warm / defrost the car in the winter and remote start to cool it in the summer. Can be done from my phone, by setting a departure time in the car or via a remote control.

Apparently the Evoque can do that too - set the heating going from your phone so it is ready to go and defrosted when you are (or cool in the summer!)

I know the 330e / 530e do, as long as they’ve got plenty of battery power or are plugged in. My neighbour plugs his RR Sport in every night and uses the timed climate a lot.

I can turn the ventilation on in my car from the App on my phone, but I don't think I can regulate the temperature up or down.

The timed climate on mine isn't remote, you can set it from the car on a timer but no app cleverness. The heater actually works in normal circumstances to heat the engine and get it up to temperature quicker, it's quite a clever idea.

I think all the diesels have the separate heater to warm the engine up, but they charge around £1,000 to upgrade it to heat the car. Does it start the car and cool it on yours Michael, or just heat? Have you used it much? It used to be standard on the top of the range Discovery, but I don’t think it is now, just on the RR Autobiography and above.

In theory yes I can control the Merc with an app but Zenith wouldn't agree to Merc terms so no app for me. I think times have changed now

Martin,
My car has a built in tracker but the insurance company told me it was not acceptable because it can be turned off through the iDrive system (and obviously the scum of the earth know this and turn it off when they steal a car). I would check that the tracker is adequate and just make sure you don't need to get a different tracker fitted.
The only reason we can't have pre-heated ICE cars in the UK is that the law says it is illegal to leave a car's engine running whilst the car is unattended. In the US, they can turn their cars on remotely and warm them up before they leave the house. Electric cars/proper hybrids on the other hand don't have that problem.

I’ve had the same on the last two BMW’s and it’s a location device rather than a tracker. I don’t need a tracker for the insurance I’ve gone with, but the tracker it has is monitored and Thatcham approved. It’s standard equipment for every new car including 3 years subscription.
Thanks though, worth checking

I've been remote starting all of my JLR cars since 2016. It's a fantastic feature and I use it regularly.
If it was illegal, that functionality would surely be unavailable ?

I have a monitored tracker fitted to my car, but didn't bother renewing it when the initial subscription expired after discovering it made precisely zero difference to the insurance.
Wish I'd known that earlier but it had been compulsory to have one on the M5 and the M135i, so I had assumed the GC would need one too.

It's £224 a year when it gets to 3 years old, never had a tracker before so no idea whether that's good or bad.

All Discovery 4s had timed climate but they charged £1k for a remote control key fob. This is upgradable for about £250 and I may do it. I use the feature quite often in winter as it helps clear frost and just makes the whole morning rush a bit easier.

It's quite legal to run an ICE car unattended on private land - your drive - but not on the road. Although I'm not sure if that law also catches auxiliary diesel heaters like we are discussing. I can't see that is the same as leaving the engine running. I wonder if there has ever been a test case?

You'll need to invest in an old-fashioned steering lock apparently. Every single RR around here wears one.
