Just finished “How to build a car” by Adrian Newey. Interesting read, especially if you like the technical stuff. Also the timing of reading it while watching the Brawn documentary gave two sides to the diffuser story that year.

Can’t recommend this enough. Very fluidly written and covering a series of events that are very clear in recent history and very close to home for someone with parents in the US and a wife growing up in Czechoslovakia at the time. You’ll suddenly remember events and how they were in the media at the time. Then there’s Able Archer 83 which is really only fully outlined in this book so I won’t spoil it. I’m pretty much only reading mid-late 20th Century history at present. I’m likening it to my late stepfather’s huge collection of early-mid 20th Century history books - we grew up with knowledge and experience of what was going on but it’s only later in life that we have the inclination and opportunity to read the details that have come to light. My real dad was a naval history reader with unfathomable knowledge of the Peninsula Wars.

Watched the new Grand Tour Sand Job yesterday and quite enjoyed it. The pranks and unreliability of one particular car were as expected but as a travel show it had some spectacular scenery.

Picked this up while in California last week. just finished listening to it now. I know it’s an oldie but I’ve never had it in any form (digital download service doesn’t count as owning it). Very happy with the quality, doubt it’s original but can’t find any dates or references beyond 1967, so probably an earlier printing of it.

Ferrari movie on Sky.
An opportunity to watch a car based film that W2.1 will also watch. It was great - not just cars and gear changing too much like it could have been. I suddenly remember the history of the '57 Mille Miglia when the race scenes started so the ending was less of a shock than it may have been.
Definitely a great watch, cars or not.

Been listening to 1984 on Audible, it’s a fantastic version of it. I’ve never read it before but knew the premise of it, having read Animal Farm many years ago.
The beginning of the book is crazy in how much it replicates society now. Hoping the end of it doesn’t too…

I think many politicians read 1984 and adopted it as a political manifesto, rather than a warning.

For those of you that like rock music with a bit of a kick, the new Sebastian Bach album is brilliant.
Earworm ahoy:
I have also been working through the Ghost back catalogue - Prequelle is superb

The latest and final Grand Tour is out on Amazon - it is well worth a watch - less scripted silliness and all the better for it.

I watched it this morning. Be interesting to know if they really did just come across the old Merc and Lancia in Botswana. Suspect the researchers for the series unearthed them beforehand and had them placed along the route.

I enjoyed it. It’s the end of an era as others have said but when you see the 3 of them now versus the earlier series of Top Gear, they can’t keep doing it.
They’ve provided some great entertainment over the years.

Started watching George Gently on Netflix. On the third episode and thinking that I’ve had a drink in the pub, that it looks like one about 30 miles from me and realised it was filmed here for the first 3 seasons. Enjoying the series, some of the old cars look great.

Enjoying the series, some of the old cars look great. From season 3 it was filmed in County Durham and Martin Shaw would take a cottage on the Ramside Estate during filming.

Jerry Cantrell just released a new solo album called I Want Blood. I love Jerry, he's a fucking genius songwriter and one of the 2 reasons I play guitar.

Yeah, I watch pretty much all Rick Beato's stuff. I’ve been watching him for a few years now. Fantastic insight into the music business and a great way of finding new (old usually) music to listen to.
