Just seen an advert for the new season of Inside Number 9. Looks creepier than ever. Can't wait.

Just finished Slow Horses on Apple+. Excellent, even though I had to update W2.1 every 15 minutes as to who was who, what the plots were and on one occasion explaining the difference between “5” and “6” being more than opposite sides of the Thames.

What do you make of this series of TG? Not sure it’s particularly doing it for me.

So having watched Slow Horses on Apple TV I bought the box set of Slough House books and can confirm they are an excellent read.

I am quite pleasantly surprised because the current/last Maiden album is rather good, easily the best thing they have done for a very very long time. Also really enjoying MAmmoth WVH (WVH being the son of eddy van halen) ,it's a really strong album with impressive musicianship on every instrument from wolfgang.

I've not really paid much mind to Maiden since the triumphant return on Brave New World. Every album since then has been a pale imitation of that or previous endeavours. Realistically, they could have retired when Bruce first left in 1992 with an amazing legacy and nobody would have thought any worse of them.
This kind of thing has been going through my mind recently - old rockers still touring into their 60s/70s. Look at Ozzy - he's absolutely fucked (Some would argue he has been since about 1978..), but he continues to tour (Although I'm pretty sure that's more at the behest of Sharon than him..) and sadly, he can't do his back catalogue justice. This isn't recent either, I saw Ozzy at Ozzfest 2002 at Donington, and considering the quality of bands that preceeded him, he was disappointing. His voice wasn't there, he was milling aimlessly about the stage and he pretty much phoned in the performance on every Sabbath song he did, relying on the crowd to sing the majority of the words whilst Zakk Wylde widdled away as he does.
Even Metallica, my absolute favourite band in the world. They're all in their late 50s, and whilst they can still produce it night after night live, the cracks are beginning to show - James Hetfield had a breakdown on stage a few weeks back, worrying about whether he can do it any more. Honestly, they could retire tomorrow and I wouldn't be upset. 41 years in the business is not to be sniffed at, by that point you've more than earned your retirement.

I can only guess that after so long doing one thing, looking at years of not knowing what to do with yourself can be frightening.

We saw UK Subs at the weekend, the singer is 78 and still fairly agile. Since it's punk the vocal demands are probably lower though

Since it's punk the vocal demands are probably lower though Elkie Brooks is 77 and still performing, largely because her accountant (or should that be her former accountant) effectively stole the money that should have gone to pay her taxes

I’m off to see Duran Duran at Hyde Park in a couple of weeks. They can still do it and Simon’s a sextuagenarian grandad these days. They still pump out new and relevant material as well and their modern day production teams are basically a load of younger, famous industry faces that happen to be massive Duranies.
I saw the Stones about 19 years ago and was amazed at the energy back then. Fuck knows how they’re still on tour this year, especially considering one of them died at what was a decent old age!

As did I! My g/f of the time bought the tickets to see them at the SECC in 2003. Not a huge fan of them, then or now, but it was an outstanding show to be fair to them.

Twickenham I saw them. I was with Fluor (huge American engineering firm) and there were a bunch of tickets floating around the entertainment team so I had a couple.

Well look at Kiss ,Bon Jovi,Dave lee roth not only touring but they have all lost their voices (not that dave lee roth had much of one to start with) ,they have to drop a key because of their age but even then their voices are shot but what else do they do..they end up like robert fripp posting videos on you tube with toyah flashing her tits doing bad covers of songs.

What do you make of this series of TG? Not sure it’s particularly doing it for me. I've liked most of it so far - haven't always been able to say that for previous series and hardly liked any of it for the last few years of C, H & M's tenure.

Does watching online count as the Telly now?
Either way I’ve been watching the Festival of Speed. It’s been too long since I was there, I think about 14 years, so I’m probably going to have to look at returning again sometime soon.

I say that evety years and I only live less than half hours drive away! It's an expensive endeavour though and so busy that I'd want to do the Thurs or Friday to avoid as big a crowd but you needs to do the Saturday or Sunday to see the best drivers going up the hill.

I recently read Apache by Ed Macey which lead me to Dressed to kill by Charlotte Madison. They were both exciting and thought provoking.

Apache is very good. An ordinary army lad from Middlesbrough, badly injured while training for Special Forces selection, army lose his medical records, and he ends up applying to be one of the first UK Apache pilots, serving in Afghanistan.

It was the fact that he was from Boro that initially got me interested. I also read a book about Stanley Hollis who is commemorated outside Albert Park in Boro.

I like movies One movie I've liked recently is the latest version of "The Invisible Man." I don't know the original story so sorry if I'm wrong, but I didn't expect the story I got with this version. It might be worth a watch if anyone is interested. Other recent favs of mine include... Our Little Sister. I love this and I've watched it a few times now. An. A Japanese film about pancakes. Poetry. A Korean film about a woman drifting into Alzheimer's. Puzzle. About a woman who gets a jigsaw for her birthday. Perfect Plan. A French comedy drama about an unlikely couple. He Loves Me He Loves Me Not. French drama that makes Fatal Attraction look like a rather pleasant picnic. Oh and I just loved Finding Vivian Maier. I also love a Japanese series called The Hours Of My Life about a young man with ALS. It may sound depressing but what a love story it is too.

We sat through two episodes of The Rings Of Power. I found it quite slow and ponderous. I liked LOTR though. I hope this new series picks up a bit.
