Been surprisingly enjoyable ,lots of drama so far. I usually don’t enjoy them ,I never got over the Brazil 82 team not winning it,but so far it’s been pretty good.

Yes, the 'World Cheating and Un-Sportsman Like Behaviour Tournament' is with us again. Fair enough to anyone who enjoys the World Cup, but much of what I have seen has been utterly shameful and is part of the reason why I shall be giving the vast majority of it a swerve over the next couple of weeks.

Been a brilliant tournament so far, attacking football and some great goals. The last minute drama of the Germany v Sweden game last night was sport at its very best.

I'm enjoying it, but the standards of sportsmanship and referring are pretty piss-poor.

6-1. In England's favour. My gob is well and truly smacked by that.

Absolutely zero interest from me, I just don’t see the appeal at all.

I have probably watched less of this world cup than all the previous ones over the past 40 years - that's probably down to good weather here, too busy at work and getting ready to go on holiday. I have to concede that England have a better chance this year than almost any year since 1966. Croatia, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and England appear the best teams at the moment so it's possible.

I've watched more thus far than any since Italia '90. Some great play-acting for fouls: Oscars ceremony should be jam-packed next spring!
Not sure what my (Greek) neighbours thought about the scale of my cheer when Toni Kroos banged in that free kick: the only time I don't want Germany to win is when they play England. Germany looking a bit soft at present but it won't last.
As to England: amazing to watch an England World Cup team play with confidence, lack of fear of losing the ball, knowing their positions, playing as a team.... I could go on. Southgate was one of the most engaging speakers we've ever had at the RAC football dinner, when he had just become U21 manager. He has pretty strict ideas about how talented, highly paid football youths should be engaged and raised through their careers. He's no time for starlets that fancy themselves the lynchpin. Sadly Trippier has been the best player and Kane will remain a reliable goalscorer. Why sadly? They wear the Chicken on a Beachball badge at club level. Mind you I dread the day they put Welbeck on the field....
My nephew is over from Czech on Wednesday and wants to watch the Thursday England match in a pub to get the atmosphere. Who am I to refuse?

The Bolshoi will have a huge crop of talent to hire from at the very least. I thought the new video tech was there to stop this sort of thing but apparently it is considered 'normal' and 'acceptable'. The world cup has gone a long way down in my opinion but the England squad seem to have more talent at one time than I can remember.

The diving is the reason I pretty much stopped watching football years ago and there's barely been any let-up despite the viseo referee. The one thing that gave me hope was Neymar throwing himself down in the box after the flimsiest of touches in the hope of a penalty (and it had to go to the video referee to get a verdict) and then subsequently getting a booking when he threw the ball away, still in a sulk, a few minutes later. The TV is on in the kitchen at work for us to watch the games if we want and apart from a few minutes watching while making a coffee I've felt no urge to spend any time in front of it. Nice to see the Japanese and Cameroonian fans tidying up after themselves though

Loved it so far. Lots of goals and great games
As for England. Wow, I know it was only Panama last night, but I wasn’t expecting that result. I stood in a pub during euro 2004 watching the likes of terry, gerrard, scholes Under perform constantly. Superstars on paper but couldn’t play as a team. Southgate has got the current young squad playing some awesome football, using a formation that’s really working. Gary linekar said we won’t win this year, but with this young squad , we will definitely be up there in 4 years. I agree.
I would like to see Alexander-Arnold in for trippier though, and rashford start a game

Enjoyed watching Iran gamely take on Portugal, though they were a touch on the feisty side. Loathe Ronald-o, so a couple of dodgy decisions against him will always bring a smile to my face...

Are Cameroon even there, Tim? I believe Senegal, whose flag is amazingly similar, are... You're right. They were mentioned in relation to a previous world cup in the article I read about the Japan fans cleaning up.

The quality is not great overall, especially defensively ,it seems to me defending is a lost art,but the drama has been great . The best World Cup so far for a long time.

I love Ronaldo, a great lad who does loads for charity and good causes and is probably the only player at the World Cup who could single handedly drag a very average Portugal team to the final. Amazing player.

Not just athlete, for charitable giving he tops the list of all athletes across all sports. He donated over £5 million of his own money to Nepalese charities after the earthquake there and gave away the entirity of his Champions League winnings to good causes.

From what I heard, he didn't seem to have much of a problem paying it off. In one go!

Well if you never paid that tax you must still have it somewhere - that's how it works when I get my tax bill.
I'm with Bob on Ronaldo - class act all round. Messi is basically a lesser-wanker in a team of outright wankers at country level and, putting last night's goal aside, this WC shows he needs €1bn of other players around him at FCBollocksalona to look as good as CR7 who can hold Portugal up with one arm.

Foreigners forget that with over a million word vocabulary English can make a chant about anything without sounding like it was meant to be a chant about what you didn't want bit to be about. It's why pop music and double entendres abound in English. (or French if you count double entendres)

Not really fair, barcalona when Messi didn’t play looked shit,he dragged a mediocre team to the last World Cup final . His performance against city at the etihad a few seasons ago was the greatest individual performance I have seen.
