My last couple of BMWs had two, one was for trips which reset after the car was shut down for a period and the other had to be reset manually. I used that second for between fill ups as I’m not as interested in the long term average. The RR has three, but the trip memory resets as soon as the engine is switched off which is a bit annoying when you stop mid journey. The Golf has three as well, the trip one works as per BMW, the between fill ups resets automatically when you refuel and it has a long term as well. What a fascinating post! zzzzz.....zzzzzz.zzzzzzzzz Well, to complete the oneupmanship, mine has 4 - ex-works, since last re-fuel, current journey, and individual. Ahhhh, you’ve got the ‘Geek Pro Pack’ The ex works trip came in with the new system that brought the awful instrument display, I remember the 7 and X5 loan cars having it.

Having just had a refill of the 440i which cost €90 for 56 litres of normal unleaded, and that’s not even on the motorway, I’m damn glad it’s economical!

This was the range read-out yesterday after refilling near Basel after crossing Switzerland from Italy scrupulously observing the rather low speed limit.

Imppressive. Keeping to the limit makes a big difference to MPG. This was the Benz yesterday after my journey back from Lancaster. Much of the M6 is either a 60 MPH roadworks zone or camera controlled variable limit sections. Even when trying to make a bit of progress on the other sections and the M6 Toll, I was pleased with this. It was just over 48 MPG as I joined the M40.

Keeping to the limit does make a huge difference, especially if there are 60mph sections as well. The economy you've got is broadly in line with what I used to get from the 535d, but things have moved on, took this from an earlier post which is my Dad's 630d ibb.co/ys05m25But if you want 40+mpg on the motorway, you don't need a diesel..quite a bit higher average speed too ibb.co/dPbyj5H

330d is averaging 36-37mpg in general use, which is impressive considering I don't drive particularly economically. I did get it to 42mpg average on the trip home from Devon, again impressive considering my wife drove half the way and she has no concept of maintaining a steady speed, or how to use cruise control.

The Kugerrr is managing about 37mpg on a daily basis and 43mpg on a reasonably steady run. I can't seem to eke more out of it. I'm filling up quite a bit more than I was with the Octavia.

Just got back from Italy in the 440i.
Put a tankful in the day before leaving Fano, refuelled again in Lugano in Switzerland and then near Bar-le-Duc south of Reims.
Looking at the receipts, we used about 133 litres to go 1,200 miles. I work that out to be roughly 40mpg.
Really not bad at all, considering it wasn't all just motorway-bashing. We had to go to funeral near Bergamo on Saturday, then right into the heart of Milan, and then yesterday instead of taking the motorway up past Strasbourg and round, at the insistence of both the sat nav and Google maps, we took an alternative route on RNs, involving hooking a left through the Vosges just past Colmar, and then up past Nancy, re-joining the A4 just south of Reims.
I must say that the road from Bar-le-Duc to the A4 was spectacular. A ribbon of well-surfaced and well-sighted empty tarmac sweeping through mile after mile of wide-open French countryside. Proper driving.

The family truck clearly likes the warm weather, despite having the air con and cooled seats running for the whole journey. It's a very optimistic OBC, but even so that's still a fraction over 35mpg.
