Control arm mounts rusted away to nothing, most likely.

A good job that wasn't on the outside lane of the motorway.

Back in California today for the next week or so. So far, I’ve seen 3 Tesla Plaids, a new M4, 2 boosters in the rental place that unfortunately my company won’t pay for- I did get a brand new Corolla with only 100 miles on it and it’s a decent enough car. A Jag XKR with the number plate JJJAGGG, several new Porsches on dealer plates- Taycan S and a Cayenne S, an old pickup with a work boot dangling from the tow hitch and probably more, but it was after midnight uk time when I got in the car so just wanted to get to the hotel, an hour away.

Saw 2 of the new Rivian SUVs. Not a bad looking vehicle, especially when compared to the cyber truck…

In quick succession yesterday I saw an early Volvo 850 and then a Mk2 Fiesta XR2. Both red, both in good condition.

I was out for a run and it pulled out of a drive about 20 yards in front of me. It was gone before I could have got my phone out to take a picture. Didn’t seem as big as I expected it to be.

Awful.
Hasn't Saint Elon suggested that owners get them wrapped to avoid having to wash them everytime a speck of dirt is on them?

Rare enough sight in California, an 850i. Looked pretty good with only minor blemishes on the boot lid. The wheels don’t look original though. Also witnessed a Cayman (brand new I think) being floored along a straight that was only a mile from the Porsche dealers. Guessing it was either a staff member or a test drive. Before that, a Lucid Air went down the same road and was almost silent, but exceptionally quick.

Saw a white Ferrari 488 GTB on Saturday south of San Francisco. Saw another Cybertruck, a Nissan GT-R and one of those ridiculously modified Japanese cars with wheels that the camber was about 45 degrees on. Think it was a Honda saloon (sedan)of some sort.

When I was on a trip in the US in the mid 90's I recall absolutely tonnes of older 911's, of the SC/Carrera sort of age (pre 964) about - including in SH car dealers we drove past - and cheap as chips..... I expect that has changed, sadly...

Just back from Marbella where we left the i-Pace car keys in the safe!!!! (another story)
However there was a Rivian SUV parked outside an apartment along the road which I went to have a look at. However before I had crossed the road to look properly, Susan piped up, saying "Why are you going to look at that? It is sooo Ugly!"
I do like the fact that when you are sitting in a cafe in Marbella, there is a constant rumble of V8's, the occasional flat 6 being revved out and then some 10 or 12 cylinder exotica showing everyone else how it should be done. All the Range Rovers seem to be SVR's and Bentleys are rather common. Me? I had a 1.4 Seat Ateca which was very spacey, had a big boot and managed most of the hills on the Malaga to Marbella trips in 5th (we did the airport run 4 times so had plenty of practice)

Thankfully the in laws are still in Marbella and went back to the apartment agents and got them to open up and check the safe - it was in the back corner. Thankfully I didn't empty the safe. I was told "that's everything in the safe and you now have the passports". However apparently it was my fault for not asking if she had the car keys sometime before the final decent in to Glasgow airport!
An expensive taxi home and then a return trip to the airport with the spare key (and a drop off charge) and no dinner, rounded off a great and very quick week away. Glad we weren't flying from Edinburgh!

What a pain. Glad you enjoyed it anyway - and it sounds like Marbella is a bit higher end that I remember! Though I may be confusing it with Malaga, which I have flown to often - Marbella I only visited once from Gibraltar, there was a Rolls there even then (about 1990!).

I saw a fairly recent Merc E Class cabrio that was immaculate apart from that the whole bonnet had popped. Presumably this is some sort of pedestrian safety thing.
It didn't stop the car being used though, it was an older couple buying plants at the local nursery

As I travelled along the M8 on the way back from Edinburgh I was being hassled by a Discovery in the outside lane as I passed a string of lorries. I was already going fast enough so I pulled in and the Discovery then passed me pulling a large 4 wheel trailer advertising a road surfacing company. He was in the 90's territory so I slowed a bit in case he had a major moment, although to be fair to him it did look very stable.

Idiotic behaviour to be speeding to that extent with a trailer of any sort. I got stopped once by an unmarked police car towing one of my race cars - at an indicated 65-70 (the most I ever did). I crawled past him on the A34 as he was doing about 60-65, he mainly stopped me to tell me he was a very senior officer and that I would not have dared pass him if he was in a marked car Whatever.

I’m in the Aberdeen office today and 10 seconds walk from the front door is a beautiful 1960s Mustang.
For some reason I can’t see the option to add a photo on my mobile

A 2015 Overfinch FFRR. What do Overfinch do nowadays as this one was a diesel?
It failed its first MOT on non-conforming numberplates!

Recent model Aston Martin convertible, maybe a DB11. It was white which actually suited it. Not a colour I’d choose for a car like that.

This morning on the way to work I saw a bit of an altercation between a cyclist and two runners. The council built a segregated cycle lane about 5 years ago by taking space from a lovely wide road and they left the pavement in a very average state of repair. The two runners were using the cycle lane and the cyclist was obviously taking exception. There were many waved arms as I came past.
