Had to pick up something from my bossās ācabinā. Took a photo of it with the X5 outside, it was washed 2 days earlier but has braved the rain and gritted roads since so not as clean as it might have been.

I'm struggling to see the cabin. There appears to be a mansion blocking the view!

That does look good, colour suits it and so much better than it would have done on the small wheels! We do need to see the interior and get your first impressions.

Be really interesting to see what it goes for, especially how crazy the market is at the moment. More interesting for you than me though!

Did BMW ring you before they delivered the new car? "Excuse me sir, but we have a BMW to deliver to you and we wanted to make sure there had not been some terrible mix up at the factory. You see, it's not white, black, silver or grey. It's deep red metallic. Surely, that can't be right?"

Yeah. Christ knows what happens to the link. Updated with coding correct.Ā They're certainly thorough with the pictures on there even so far as showing the service history. Shame the car used to be looked after by Cuntz!

Shame the car used to be looked after by Cuntz! Far from it. The premier Alpina dealership in Germany. Does look funny if you're English though.

Took a few photos of the car yesterday as I was in the ideal spot. Itās on the market now and Iām asking $13,500 for it, $1,500 more than I paid 18 months ago. Thatās how much the market has changed here now. People are interested in it too. I also spoke to a local dealer today and if I donāt sell over the weekend, heās willing to sell it on consignment for me. Itās funny, I'm not entirely sure I will look for one across the pond. Itās a great car to drive, but Iām not willing to pay the running costs which would be way higher in Ireland. Anyway, weāll see what happens over the coming days.

My latest car (the X5 is still being sold so I technically still own it) is a 17 year old diesel fiesta with 219,000 miles on it. It has small wheels, is noisy, has no modern refinements (Bluetooth? Electric what?) and has cloth seats. We were given it for nothing and to be honest, itās really interesting seeing the difference between the two cars. The ride is less crash than the X5- maybe because of the spongy tyres. The fuel bills are much lower, despite living in Europe again (ā¬1.65 a litre). I havenāt done 70mph in it yet and am not certain I want to due to the noise, but around town itās a laugh to drive. Iām not worried about parking it at the shops because other cars donāt want to get dinged by it, so they are equally careful. I definitely would like to drive something newer and more refined but slumming it for a while is a blast to be honest. I think this one will keep me going for a number of weeks before I start working again and have to buy something newer.

If my maths is right that would make it a 2004 Fiesta, and younger daughter's first car was a 2005 Fiesta 1.6 petrol so it should be a great drive; it did 70mph with no issues !

We had a '54 plate Fiesta 1.25 for several years. It was as basic as they come - steel wheels, windup windows - and was brilliant. Zingy little Zetec engine, great steering. We drove it from Southampton to Val d'Isere with 4 adults and their ski gear.

Sara had a 1.25 litre Fiesta and loved it, the follow on 1.6 litre Peugeot 205 scared her witless at times. The car would bog down pulling out or crossing junctions. Auto both but the little Ford was a gem.

I had a 2005 Fiesta courtesy car for a few weeks back then and even the asthmatic 1.3 couldn't spoil the joy of hammering it down a twisty road. I even got it up to 100 once (eventually!).

Having driven the Fiesta for 3 weeks now, hereās my impressions:
Pros- Itās small and a lot of fun on the roads near me, it excels on twisty bits. Itās economical- way better than the X5 (to be expected) Itās good over potholes and bumps- the 14ā wheels and high wall tyres make for a better ride than the X5 with air suspension on 20ā wheels The stereo- the volume has a level attached to it so I can see how high the stereo is turned up. This might be something I like having grown up with knobs and buttons on the radio.
Cons- Itās small and struggles with more than 2 people in it. Itās really noisy. I tend to not drive it flat out because itās so noisy- needs a 6th gear for the motorway to be honest. Itās cold- the X5 had that feature where itās instantly warm on cold days, along with heated seats and AC, it was great in all weather.
However, I got the car for free and have had to do nothing to it other than replace an indicator bulb and a fuse to enable the cigarette lighter to work again.
Still donāt know what car I will get to go alongside it- it depends on wherever I end up working. Iāve considered getting a bike for the first time in my life, mainly if Iām in the city more. If Iām out of the city, I donāt know. Like the idea of getting an estate/wagon of some sort but not as keen on a BMW now that Iāve owned a few. But I doubt Iāll be getting a vehicle until next month at the earliest, so plenty of time to think and look, and test drive!

Alf may recognise the location.... Younger daughter's Audi after a Ā£5.5k rebuild. 70-plus miles covered in it today to check it out and bed in the new tyres. Not bad for 8 years old, I'm delighted with it although I need to attack some of the interior stains a third time as they've not all gone yet - and I'm pretty sure they are of her doing and nothing to do with it travelling further on transporters this year than on the road under its own power.

About 3 weeks ago, part of the family fleet after cleaning: The Polo is now wearing its PO10 plate so at least I can remember it ! The original is instantly forgettable, could never remember if it started AF or AP

Car had its NCT(MOT) on Saturday. It had been postponed due to Covid and had been overdue since January 2021. They are usually valid for 2 years but many people have had their test only to need another a few months later. Anyway it passed. I looked at the paperwork when I got back to the car and saw that the new cert was valid until 2025. Thatās the first time Iāve heard of them skipping a test, but Iām delighted. The examiner told me the car was spotless.

Treated myself to some new wheels just before Crimbo. I needed new front tyres anyway and I found a full set of wheels with 3 decent tyres for Ā£250. The bonus is that I now have a mint pair of Pilot Sports to sell on and recoup some of thw cost. All I had to do was buy another Michelin for the front.
