Skoda Octavia SeL Tdi 4x4. Not quite the kick in the back the Legacy could give, but even on short acquaintance it gives a reasonable shove, and the low-down torque is brutal by comparison. I think I might enjoy this more than I thought!

My Mum's 05 plate Octavia is still going strong with few issues other than the occasional light bulb and wiper blade. A diesel daily makes so much sense in so many ways for ease of driving and economy, despite what the Politicians say. Enjoy.

That's 10k in 3 days shy of 6 months. That extended commute along the M6 every day is to blame, it should go down now I've taken the plunge on the new Mersey crossing and almost halved my daily drive. Still running like a dream, still averaging 46mpg per tank, still surprising me with how damn quick it can be in gear.

I also just bought this. Well, not the complete bike, just the frame with a couple of bits attached. And mine has lime green chainstays. So begins my foray into full suspension bikery, I'm only 20 years behind everyone else.

I almost caved in to full suspension after my body taking a battering on my big hardtail - 46 and i'm writing cheques my body can't cash! But sod that - this summer I've been riding around on a ten year old HT frame and my big bike is kept for special occasions. Having said that I've also got a 10 yr old full sus frame which every now and again I transfer the parts over - apart from the frame (or rather the shock) being a little weighty I can't really see the need for anything more modern.

My mates have all got bang up to date full sussers with all the latest kit and I'm keeping up with them on my 17 year old hardtail Trek. Not because I'm shit hot, but because I've built it right and know how to ride it. I can't justify spending upwards of a grand on something new when I'd rather build it myself. All the gear on the Trek is tried, tested and proven and there is no need to upgrade any of it. My wheels are bulletproof, my groupset is a mix and match of XT/XTR and only 8 speed but is also bulletproof.
But, my arse and spine are getting a hammering nowadays so a bit more cushioning will not go amiss.

Still got the frogeye, now approaching 60 years old (may next year) and the Golf which is now 7, its got 140k km on the clock, but is still nicely put together and well built, well it was till this happened...
The wing mirror adjustment dubrey whatsit snapped off....cost all of 9cad (18 cad delivery!!) for the replacement, but my faith in German engineering is now shattered....

New Focus picked up today and the first park puts it next to a 1st and second gen car. Ruby Red ST Line X 1.0 125ps. No options but doesn’t really need any. Has nav, parking front and rear, heated seats, half leather, 18’s, WiFi, electric seat etc as standard. Great so far (100 miles only) - seems much quicker than the EcoSport with the same engine, and is about 50% more fuel efficient.

Do let me know if your Ruby Red is resistant to stone chips and scratches from clothing/bags of people touching it as they walk past. Am very disappointed with the softness and state of paint on my Kuga; is it the paint itself or the way it has been applied, I wonder?

Looks good but I couldn’t help but think that the interior shot only needed a Hyundai or BMW badge and I’d have happily believed it to be a picture of an i30 or 1 series.

Yes, it’s very similar to the i30, particularly inside and the exterior is a mix of a few cars. Presumably that’s why Ford feel the need to have a huge FOCUS badge on the back..... Looks decent enough though.

I struggle with the generic rear end and tablet type screens plonked on the dash still annoys me. Why can't they fold away?

Presumably designers have noted that many people now have their satnav and/or gigantic smartphone stuck on a screen mount that brings it very close to them (and often into their eyeline) so they're creating an interior that gets the display screen as close to that position as allowed within legal framework?

I think that if you placed a group of similar sized and coloured hatchbacks from this sector in a car park, minus badges, I would struggle to identify them.
Apart from the Astra, because it has that twattish split line detail on the C pillar.

My current car. Unfortunately it's for sale as I just don't use it I work in Edinburgh City centre and travelling by car is no fun. Currently the quickest way for me to get home is to run the 5 mile distance, plus that's probably best for my health also.

Rebecca's the same, though not quite to the extent of running to (or from) work. Yet. However, unless it's totally pissing down or snowing heavily , she's been cycling to work and back, saving the running for her days off - and sometimes after boxing class!
