Thinking about the OP dilemma a a bit more, I think in any two car house you need one that is big enough to just pile people / crap in if you need to and go places. Most 2 car households on here seem to follow that approach. OK everyone will not post and rpuve we wrong.... But if you do want that Cayman/Boxster itch scratched, then Mrs Racing probably needs prying out of her 500 for something slightly bigger.

A gearbox away from perfection! I was thinking it’s a Burmester (and maybe a folding roof) away from perfection!

Interesting - that appeared momentarily on the site about 10 days ago and then vanished almost immediately. Yes, it’s quite appealing.

In your position I'd be tempted towards a late, cherished 981S. You might have to be a little more flexible on spec, but a well chosen example would likely be a wonderful thing to own and drive for barely half the cost of a nearly new GTS.

Our practical car is now the 430 - a 2 door coupe. The Yaris may be a hatch but it's still only 3 doors and there's not a lot of space in the back - I don't think 5 foot 7 me could sit behind myself Having said that the 430 IS practical for just the 2 of us and if necessary it can carry 1.8m by 0.9m sheets of plasterboard flat in the back (with the seats down) which in my experience is better than the average pickup.

All this thread made me do was spec a Panamera Hybrid up to £110k last night.

You might have to be a little more flexible on spec, but a well chosen example would likely be a wonderful thing to own and drive for barely half the cost of a nearly new GTS. Its an interesting point - and would allow a "more cars" option which we all know is the best really Assuming any much cheaper SUV will be a disappointment to own/driv after the Maccan, Racing could go for soething like another 440iGC, S5, etc as well as something like this. Which I've had idly sat in my AT "saved" list for no good reason other than I really like it: www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202407252144528I think if it were me though, and I could afford something like a Cayman GTS 4.0 or 991/2 (of any flavour really) I'd do it, as we sit on the verge of a hostile EV takeover.

But if you do want that Cayman/Boxster itch scratched, then Mrs Racing probably needs prying out of her 500 for something slightly bigger. I don't think you're wrong, the only difference between us all is how much space we need and the type of driving we do. I don't need to carry plasterboard or wardrobes around, just 3 (occasionally 4) people and the boot needs to be big enough for when we have to drive to the airport. Go back a couple of years and I needed to carry 2 x 6 foot plus teenagers plus a car seat / pushchair / other baby stuff as well as suitcases a couple of times a year. It depends on how much you use a car and the type of driving you do, but I think in an ideal world you really need three cars to cover all the bases, ideally four. There are plenty of so called 'swiss army knife' cars, but I don't really get that as when is one of those ever the best for any job? It's more like they are a great one car solution, a bit of a compromise but they do a lot of things very well. Cars like the Panamera Getting a Boxster/Cayman/911 and forcing the replacement of the 500 sounds like an even bigger win to me.

Looks even better than the configurator images. Have they made you an acceptable offer on the Macan?

No nothing yet. Just a call following up my website enquiry on Saturday and a video this morning. They need to go and get bids I think.
I was very up front that this had all been initiated by my local OPC and that therefore I was only interested if there was minimal price to change.

I'll be honest; I'm not feeling the wheels. The colour is identical to our new Qashqai and looks stunning.

Surely too much of a coincidence for it not to be this car?
Edit: Checked and it was registered in December 2022, so it has to be the same car.

Don't like the GT4 as much as the standard GTS - too hardcore for daily use and don't like the rear spoiler which indeed spoils. Love the wheel design though, obviously, being essentially the same as those I picked for the Macan.

The Spyder is my favourite variant, looks much more special than the standard car. It’s one to keep in the garage with the roof off waiting for a nice / dry day though rather than being a daily.

They are the same diameter wheels front and rears, just a bit wider.

That green GT4 looks amazing, and I don't dislike the wheels either - not on something that special. However as a regular-use road car I think I'd have the GTS instead. I'm still shocked at how stiffly my 987 rides on the adaptive dampers and highest profile wheels, the press comments on the GT4 suggested more part track car than daily. Which is fine as its a GT followed by a number - that's what its for. I'm with Martin in that the 718 Spyder looks more special than any of them. The double humps behind the headrests, and the matching exhausts, just look so special, and how better to hear that amazing engine? Boxsters have far more storage than you expect (though not sure how the Spyder affects that?). Something like this would absolutely cut it: www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202409093838361

If a daily its a Gts, as a second car I'd have a GT4/Spyder.
The ride is too firm in a GT4 but it has that, just stepped off a race track look that I love.
