As predicted, as my Macan heads for its second birthday (quite unbelievably), the dealer has been in touch to see if I might like to change.
I am definitely surprised by how strong the part-ex offer is - £68k with a suggestion that there was scope to narrow the gap further. Car was £78.8k new and has 8,500 miles on the clock.
What would you do? I own the car outright.

One thing that caught my eye was how much more it costs to insure a Macan compared to a 911 or Boxster GTS - try £750/yr instead of £1750. Insane.

Presumably a like-for-like replacement would now cost significantly more than what you paid last time? It is really only just run in now and at the current rate of use isn't likely to be hitting high mileage and reliability issues for a long long time yet.
Get them to price up a swap but, in your position, I would give serious consideration on spending the extra on a weekend toy instead. I realise that with London parking / garage limitations this might not be practical.

Swap it for what?
If the answer is another Macan, then definitely not as it would be mid £80k at current prices with first year VED included (there one we specced is £87k) so close to £20k to change for nothing other than a 20 (Feb 23?) month newer car.
If the answer is a 911 or Boxster, especially a 911, then you should do it before they change their minds!

Absolutely not another Macan - that would be pointless. It's just a bit surplus to requirements, which was always a risk after we got the Mini.
We don't really need the space and it isn't really quite special enough to justify high days and holidays use given how much cash is wrapped up in it. I'm certainly not chucking more money at additional cars. Between the three we already have, there's around £90k wrapped up in cars which is more than enough.
So mostly thinking of a more or less straight swap cash-wise for a lightly used Boxster/Cayman 4.0 GTS, or a slightly older 911 (2018 vintage or thereabouts).
Then if the practicality becomes an issue, Mrs M might finally decide to chop in her 500, which is starting to creak a bit, for something bigger (Polo/Golf-type thing).

White is a total no-no. Shirley you know that.
Likewise eg Crayon and similar duff shades

Maybe I'm dull, but I'd check first that the tempting trade-in is not dependent on you spiffing on a new car from them.
I hate it when you go and ask what your car is worth as a trade in and the first question is "what are you buying / how much are you spending on an upgrade?".
Quite agree re the white 911. Just does not suit it.

Also agree with white just being a Porsche awaiting a respray.
I like the green one, but would prefer to be buying through an OPC.
With new cars prices currently being so high and waiting lists potentially still being a thing, I should have thought a barely run in, high spec Macan is every OPC's dream. They could flip it for some instant cash flow and finance bunce in a few moments. I would expect Jonny is holding the ace cards in any tradein negotiation.

Sell it now, amostised thats £400 a month for a brand new Porsche over 2 years. You’ll not see numbers like that again.
Funnily enough I’ve just down back for the pub and a mate of mine has got rid of his Macan GTS after 6 months. We all loved going in it, as long as I wasn’t in the back as they are tiny, but he really didn’t get on with it. He took a near 10k bath after 6 months so you’re doing really well.
His issue was it did nothing particularly well but everything ok. Like a Golf GTi on stilts, which funnily enough I’ve always called the Macan. If you have the opportunity to get into a Boxster GTS or Spyder you should. They’re brilliant things.
I’ll go back to a Cayman GTS or GT4 at some point.

Not all that surprising it’s cheap. I bet the sales person was crying and talking non stop about resale spec when that was ordered

Just does not suit it. No, it’s against a used car as well. They have been waving under my nose a 10 month old Boxster GTS in GT Silver with 4k miles that has everything I’d want barring a heated steering wheel and more-way seats (it just has the standard 2-way ones).

I’d want a post-2017 car to avoid the hideous road tax rate applicable to high-emissions cars registered before 04/2017.
Essentials: reversing camera, at least BOSE, folding mirrors, heated seats, sunroof (on a 911), extended leather.

Shame about the standard seats but it’s got the basic essentials (LED lights, Bose, Reversing Camera and Climate control). Price seems about right and I do like GT Silver.
It’s easy to spend £95k on a new one.
I’d go for a 911 though if I was in your position.

The man maths is percolating.
Insurance is £1k cheaper (and due next month). Macan needs a service in Jan, this wouldn’t This has one year more warranty.
So that’s surely £3k towards the difference, right?

Yes I’ve seen that - carbon steering wheel a bit iffy. Not my choice either, but it’s been the only way to get a heated steering wheel on a 718 in the last 12 months or so if the configurator is to be believed.
