Just bought this. To be fair, it is a V8 and it isn't rusty. I'll be removing the illegal front tints and adding a number plate, but it's pretty much ready to go laning. It drives very well, especially considering it is on full muds.

“It isn’t rusty” Isn’t the amount the wheels stick out past the arches illegal as well? Pleased to see you haven’t stopped being completely mad and I’m sure it will be fun green landing!

The main tread doesn't stick out, it's the sidewall, so technically legal, I think.

Excellent! 3.5 or 3.9?

4.0 Thor block. It is a 25k mile Turner rebuilt engine with a hot cam.

You never cease to amaze me Mark but fair play to you that looks like it'll provide plenty of fun on the green lanes. A V8 Disco with no rust will be heavily sought after so shouldnt lose any of its value once you've enjoyed it so as long as you can maintain it at reasonable cost you could actually make some money on it in a few years.

A great way of converting fuel into noise.

Looks bloody good actually. What are they like for hidden rusticles? They rot at the front scuttle and near the servo due to the drains blocking. This one is fine. They also rot like hell in the rear of the chassis and around the rear wheel arches.

Mark, you truly are a triumph of hope over experience! Has your wife suggested therapy as a matter of urgency?

I'm loving the practical beige interior on that!

😂 I've ordered a set of rubber mats and a dog guard. Beige carpet isn't going to last and it will make a much better dog car than the truck.
It is an ES model which is top of the range for the time and it has the expensive rear AC option. I'll have to see what's stopping the AC from working. I've unplugged the radiators from mud, so it may have just been that. I haven't tried it since.

Just bought this. To be fair, it is a V8 and it isn't rusty..... So somebody else has stolen your enjoyment and already changed the chassis? Spoil-sports. :-) Seriously looks a great car to take off road.

Question is, when does it get the full test and write up?
It definitely looks mean enuff.

I've been spannering already.
A friend has a Nanocom diagnostics so that has saved me £500. I had to buy the code for the Disco and a specific cable.
I was correct. The 3 amigos was the rear hub on the drivers side which I replaced with the one that came with the car. Unfortunately, there is a code for the front hub too so that will need to be replaced before the 3 irritating friends can be banished.
It is also going to need brake pads soon.
I've had a poke about underneath and it has a diff lock in the transfer box. A kit to make it work will be on the cards. Disco 2 never came with diff lock as Land Rover thought the TC would be good enough. Early ones still had all the required stuff in the transfer box and it was removed for later models.

CB radio installed today. It was pissibg down, so no photos.
Washers aren't working so investigated that and managed to snap every brittle plastic connection under the bonnet. Pump and wiring is fine, the non return valves are plugged.
I've ordered the pipe kit including the valves and new nozzles and I'm going to take the opportunity to relocate the rather vulnerable bottle from the passenger wheel arch to the engine bay. There is plenty of room at the bulkhead on the passenger side.
I've also ordered new front indicators as they are currently held in with cable ties and one dropped out today.
Land Rover ownership is not disappointing me. 🤣🤣🤣

Considering the condition of the rebuilds, not sure anything would faze you, apart from cartoon style disintegration perhaps.

Centre diff lock fitted. Didn't take as long as I thought it would and was relatively simple.
Back door check strap repaired so it no longer rests the spare wheel on the tail light. I've also removed the third row of seats to free up boot space.
I've fixed the washers - haven't got around to relocating the tank yet.
I have also got some new front indicator repeaters to replace the ones held in with cable ties.

Fresh MOT today. Rear brakes were borderline - it just needs a set of pads, emissions were also borderline, but I think there are a couple of exhaust leaks which will cause the lamda to be a touch high. I can hear a ticking under load which is classic manifold gasket symptoms and the centre join could do with sealing.
Other than that, all good.
It went on a weekend green laning the other day. It was great, but not without issues. The wheels are too wide. I'm going to source a set of 16x8 modulars. These bead lock lookalikes are 16x10 ffs. It also leaks like a seive. I suspect the roof rails over the sunroofs, but I'm going to tiger seal the lot. It is causing BCU issues like no indicators and minimal wipers and knocks out the remote locking. At least it is a proper Land Rover. 🤣
