A mate of mine in Italy has inherited an old Disco after his father-in-law passed away and no-one wanted it. He’s got in touch to see if I can help as he’s after these grommets and says they are not findable locally and his local mechanic can only bulk-order them. Any ideas on best place to source them for him? Thanks!

Fresh MOT today. Rear brakes were borderline - it just needs a set of pads, emissions were also borderline, but I think there are a couple of exhaust leaks which will cause the lamda to be a touch high. I can hear a ticking under load which is classic manifold gasket symptoms and the centre join could do with sealing. Other than that, all good. It went on a weekend green laning the other day. It was great, but not without issues. The wheels are too wide. I'm going to source a set of 16x8 modulars. These bead lock lookalikes are 16x10 ffs. It also leaks like a seive. I suspect the roof rails over the sunroofs, but I'm going to tiger seal the lot. It is causing BCU issues like no indicators and minimal wipers and knocks out the remote locking. At least it is a proper Land Rover. 🤣Either that’s not true or I haven’t got one….I’m happy either way!

I realised reading this that my drive, when the family are visiting, probably looks a lot likes yours will in a few years time.

Blimey. Looks like the road outside my house here in West London.

I can see myself in a dubiously modified D4 in 10 years time.

Mother. She has had a black Range Rover Sport but it was an early generation 1 version.

The D1 was terrible for the alpine windows letting in water and rotting the inner quarter panel. The D2 has bonded alpine windows which seem dry in mine.

I've added a load of cheap underbody protection bought at the LRO Show, but it was missing a set of sliders. I have today replaced the crappy plastic sills with some seriously heavy duty steel. Really need to tidy the garage and crack on with the Cummins.

Just replaced the Watts linkage bushes for poly. They've been done pretty recently as the bolts weren't that corroded and had copper grease on them. The old rubber bushes were absolutely spanked, which will explain the loud knock from the rear.
It still has a slight knock and the ARB bushes and links are fine so I've ordered a bush kit for the trailing arms.
It's also getting a new windscreen next week. Stone chip has cracked, taking out the screen heater on the driver's side.

Heated screen working well. Only thing is, when I use it, I lose other internal electrical items and the lights go dim.
Checked the earth connector in the driver's footwell as these can corrode due to damp, but it is really clean. I moved onto the other body earths under the bonnet and noticed a lug from the main battery earth wasn't connected to anything.
Someone has replaced the battery and used the incorrect one. The negative battery lead won't reach while it is connected to the main body earth, so rather than use the right battery, they thought leaving it disconnected would be fine. 🙄
I have some short link cables lying around, so I reconnected it - headlights restored to full brightness and all electrics working as they should.
It will be interesting to see if it cures the intermittent ABS fault.

We all know what you’ll end up doing to fix the ABS fault…..new chassis!

🤣 ABS fault is a £20 shuttle valve if it doesn't resolve. The fault clears itself, in any event and only happens very occasionally.
The car would be worth re-chassis.

Loud chirping noise coming from underneath - speed related. It's got a worn out UJ on the front prop at the double cardan joint at the gearbox end.
I've ordered new UJs but am not going to drive it until its fixed as I don't want the prop letting go and destroying the gearbox.
I've got a set of manifold gaskets to go on as it's ticking horribly under load (classic Rover V8 - the TVR did it too until I replaced the gaskets).
It's had a new set of OEM dashboard bulbs to replace the silly blue LEDs that the previous owner had added. Having all the switchgear illuminated in original green while the dials and climate panel were a lurid electric blue was far too much for my OCD.

Propshaft UJs replaced today. Air tools rock.
I've rebushed one radius arm. They've been done recently as the bolts weren't rusty at all. I think they had used crap bushes.
Just got the other side to do and replace the rear brake pads and that should mean all the little jobs are done for a bit and I can tidy my garage and carry on with the other one.

All the rear bushes now done and I replaced the rear brake pads.
The calipers took some winding back and predictably, one of them stuck on on the test drive.
Both caliper carrier brackets had seized pins and as they are less than £20 each complete with new pins, I've ordered a pair as well as a pair of calipers at £20 each.
Car drives really well on the new bushes. All the clunking has gone and the ride is really good, despite being on +2 coil springs rather than the factory air.

Changed the wheels to something with a more sensible offset.

You are not wrong. It was the narrow lanes that spoilt the look for sure. I don't want to cause any damage.
60mm difference in the offset between the two. The first were - 35mm and the second are +25.

I've put the exhaust back to standard too. It was antisocially loud and was starting to piss me off.
It doesn't sound much different here, but there is a massive difference in the car on the road. It also has much better pickup on acceleration.
Won't annoy the bobble hatters on the lanes as much too.
