Can I vote for keeping it the same colour (albeit resprayed)?
While the one you linked to before looks nice I've never been overly attracted to those modern greens on the Defender and I'm not sure the gloss black light surrounds or wheels work as well as older styles either.
what colour should the grille be on your new one as it appears to be body coloured in the photo?

That colour suits it, so I'd keep that. But I'd change the wheels and tyres to offset that look. Effectively like the green one your posted but in your blue / sandstone body roof colour with original graphics, but with silver alloys.
Inside I'd go modern seats and a better heater, with as much tech as you can get away with. Plus way, way more sound proofing.

This is my favourite front end treatment for a Defender:

I like the original Brunel front grille, but it should be dark grey/black along with the headlight surrounds. Anyway, plenty of time to finalise plans. I now have an engine and gearbox. It's going to need some work cosmetically. Strip, clean and paint in Cummins red rather than DAF grey. The clutch is stuck, but it would be getting a new one anyway. The compressor looks manky, but hopefully this will clean up and the exhaust manifold might not be salvageable, but that's no biggie for the price I paid.

And, it appears, quite a bit of the chassis it was once used in.....

I have to say I'm full of admiration of you taking on this project. I'm not sure I'd know where to start. Well, I would but it would involve drink.

Well, I would but it would involve drink. That's probably what caused this in the first place!

I think I'd keep it same colour but remove the scaffolding off the roof.
Wonder where I can get a "turbo" badge like that?

Did the flatpack furniture piled in the back come with the car?

Friend in the village bought a pole lathe but couldn't get a courier to collect it. She asked if anyone was going near Herts and as I was, I asked where it was. It was only at Harlow so not a big diversion off the A1. She has yet to pick the thing up yet. š¤š

I've either missed this thread, or read the start and forgot all about it. I seem to remember the road trip down south
Just spend a good 20mins reading through and looking at the photos
fascinating stuff, keep the updates and photos coming.

I've just started a spreadsheet so this doesn't get out of hand. Actual cash laid out, not including things on order. Barely used second hand four bolt steering box was a bargain so I couldn't pass that up. Mine has a 6 bolt steering box which will interfere with the engine. The chassis company are running again, apparently, so I'm going to drop them a friendly email to see how far behind we are.

That spreadsheet could either be very interesting or become very depressing very quickly if the numbers start to rise......

Having something similar for the house project it can depressing when you see the top figure, sometimes better to focus on the end result not the journey!šš

I'm planning on it being about Ā£10k total.
Chassis will be the big cost at Ā£3k. I haven't stripped the doors off, so don't know whether they are repairable. If they aren't, it's getting galvanised frame doors, so that's another Ā£1,800. I don't know how much the conversion bits are going to cost yet, either and I haven't looked at the hubs and axles.

We have a new unit of measure then. Ā£5k is an Alf. Perhaps Ā£10k ought to be a Trevor (or a Mark)?

We have a new unit of measure then. Ā£5k is an Alf. Perhaps Ā£10k ought to be a Trevor (or a Mark)? Isnāt a TreVor or a Mark a bigger number than that, back from when the TVR cost a touch more than expected to sort out? Maybe it should be the āMark Multiplierā, starts off at Ā£10k and then ends up being Ā£10k x MM?

Don't. The TVR still give me nightmares, not least due to the fact I was ripped off by the specialist. At least I have complete control over this.

Still have it. There are a few people interested for when the lockdown gets relaxed.

Still have it. There are a few people interested for when the lockdown gets relaxed. Travelling at speed with the roof down must be the safest place to be, surely?

Still have it. There are a few people interested for when the lockdown gets relaxed. Travelling at speed with the roof down must be the safest place to be, surely? I've become a little paranoid to the point that when passing other cars, cyclists or runners, or being behind a bus, I close the car windows and start wondering if a pollen filter will trap a virus (it probably won't)!
