From what I can tell on those photos the panels look very straight.

Given that it needs a new chassis it seems almost made for you Mark! Not sure that towing it all the way home from Hastings will be much fun.

Meh, I collected the Series III from Swanage and drove home in a day.
If I win it, I won't be doing that again and it will involve an overnight stay.

Brew available around the Jct25/26 area of the M1 if it fits in with your plans

Hotel and trailer rental are booked. Just waiting for the kennels and a couple of weeks to wait!
I have also agreed a donor engine purchase this morning and should be getting that in a couple of weeks too.

I think I want something looking a little like this. Keswick Green with black roof and accents. That will look great. I'd go bigger on the graphics. Get something really wild, covering most of the sides and rear.

... and I would leave off the graphics entirely. Either way, this has the makings of an epic project.

I agree the graphics are tacky. Nice combination otherwise.

Lose the graphics and that’s the best colour combination I’ve seen on a defender. Will you be going for that standard of finish?

No reason why I shouldn't be able to if I can keep my garage clean and prep it properly, or save up and have it done professionally.

It's back home. I'm a very happy person. The car is really straight, it just has a rotten chassis. The people. I bought it off were lovely and they were in tears when it left on the trailer. They wanted to ensure that I would do it up and keep it rather than sell it on and I assured them that is the plan. Land Rovers really do get under the skin. Shitty photo taken at the Thurrock services which I think must be the arse hole of the south east. Random thing of note, my Southbound Dart charge yesterday hasn't been recorded as yet, but today's northbound one has. As you can see, the wife is dead chuffed!

Great stuff! I saw one yesterday with that union flag graphic on the door except it was a white dual cab pickup with black stickers. Looked naff.

I've placed the chassis order today and am picking the engine and gearbox up on Wednesday.
That's pretty much everything until the chassis arrives. I don't want to start stripping the body just yet as stuff will get lost.
I need to contact the Cummins guy about engine mounts, conversion plate etc, but I'll leave that for a while until I get a rolling chassis with newly painted axles and rebushed arms etc.

You need custom propshafts due to the transfer box position changing The LT230 transfer box can take huge amounts of abuse before it let's go so is fine.
The 110 have the Salisbury rear diff which can take abuse. The front diff is standard Rover, but it should be OK if it doesn't get abused.

I'm picking the engine and gearbox up tomorrow. I also have a dilemma.
Lindsey has told me she wants me to do a restomod and keep it looking like it is now. That's Shire Blue (rare colour only used for two years from '88-'90 on the last of the 90/110 before defender) with Limestone roof and wheels. It would save some money and even more if I kept the 200TDi it has now. I think I would still like to put the Cummins in it for the torque and power though. The sale of the 200TDi should pay for the conversion kit.

When you say restomod do you mean look as it does but in as new condition with modern technology or do you mean updated underneath but looking worn on the outside? The latter is a shit idea.

The former. So put the Cummins in it and make it reliable and usable on a day to day basis but keep it looking as standard as possible. Obviously it will have new whatever it needs in order to do so including paint.
Im also thinking a decent heater, lots of soundproofing and comfy seats and possibly a heated front screen.
I'll also put new County graphics on.

Seems like a quiet chat with a nice bottle of something and a good meal is in order. The colour is obviously negotiable and might help on the engine front.

This is because of what the former owners said, isn’t it? I think I was thinking of the rat look which is a lousy idea. I do think it’s a nice colour.

I don't want to be disrespectful to their old car and I do quite like how it looks, condition aside. I'm not a fan of the rat look and I'm now thinking a modern colour won't suit it or me as it will be too blingy.

There’s an honesty to that colour. It is rare, with wall to wall Defenders around here and I can’t remember last time I saw one that shade. Would you replace the stickers? They’re proper Defender in my view.

Yes, if I restomod it I will replace the graphics. I am going to go all Martin right now. Technically, it isn't a Defender. It is a Land Rover 110 County Station Wagon. When the Defender was introduced, the stripes remained the same apart from County being replaced by Defender apart from the last stripe which read County. When the 300TDi was introduced they simplified the stripes and they simply said Defender in one stripe. funrover.com/guides/a-guide-to-defender-side-graphics-decals/
