That is one horribly tacky interior.

I won't say it hasn't crossed my mind but whilst I wouldn't necessarily call it tacky, it doesn't give me the same feeling as sitting in a BMW. I suppose it's a bit of what you know although I had Mercedes' for about 12 years before the last 17 years of BMW. That particular car has fallen from £61,995 over nearly 3 months but it isn't a colour I like - I think Merc greys are a bit depressing. However for a 4 door V8 it is massively better value than the M5 and I am concerned that with all the Political turmoil we could see a stock market crash and serious instability, at which time I would rather not own a large thirsty car with a heavy dose of finance.

That’s the cheapest new E63 by some margin.
I don’t know what it’s missing compared to the others for sale, but I like it, especially the lined inlays.

Not as nice as the M5, but that is particularly good value. Maybe but the current interiors make it look like you are in a hall of gambling machines - is it just me who doesn't like the ever-increasing swathes of flat digital displays rather than a "traditional" dashboard? Also is it just me who intensely dislikes the current rear-end styling of Benzes - light clusters that curve upwards along their bottom edges for starters, and IMHO excessive curving at the rear corners?

Precisely. That and the dodgy blue neon "mood" lighting, which makes me think of a cheap nightclub.
I've been in a few new E and S classes en route to airports for business travel, and I just don't like MB's current interior design.

I'd certainly wait until after tomorrow before making a decision then. As I said before there are going to be planty of these around for the next few years so if you can contain your desires for a while you're unlikely to miss out.

I have to agree. I think the interiors of Mercs are way too chintzy. Silver, neon lighting, big screens, fussy detailing. They too remind me of a 1970's nightclub. And nothing says "taxi" quite like a silver or black Merc E or S class.

The left hand end of the central screen doesn't meet the rest of the dashboard in a very cohesive way - the screen is, obviously, very straight edged and the dashboard is curvy and undulating.
It's now very well resolved at all, esoecially for a well-established upmarket brand like Merc.

I had better bring this to an end. Combination of wife not happy with me blowing the endowment and the dealer refusing to move on price, so the door shuts on the M5 for a while.
In terms of what I want/need in a car it ticks all the boxes and more, so i'll hope that prices fall significantly over the next 6 months and will watch with interest to see what the new M340i, M440i, M3 and M4 are going to be like.

I feel pretty gutted to be honest. I tried to get the dealer to come down in price because the M5's have now broken through into the £60K's but they had someone else interested and I had first choice. A divorce is more expensive than a car, so I had to decline.
I have been watching a couple of Joe Achilles video reviews on You Tube and it makes me want one more.

Sad news but at least you know what you want now. Maybe prices will drop again post-Brexit (or whatever we end up with!) so you might be able to get into one for less than £60k.

That’s the problem, you’ve got to the point where you know what you want and you’ve experienced the performance / V8 / quality / equipment etc. As good as the new M340i will be, it’s not going to match up. The value does have a long way to drop, so hopefully it’s just a matter of time.

As good as the new M340i will be, it’s not going to match up. That is one of the things that stands out for me - the 5 series (and no doubt the 7 series more so) are so much more comfortable and quieter than the 3/4 series. The M5 in comfort mode is probably more compliant than my car whilst maintaining fantastic poise and balance.

The value does have a long way to drop, so hopefully it’s just a matter of time. Not if the cost of a divorce has to be accounted for ! It's getting your wife's head around buying a £100k car that may prove the sticking point, after all nobody actually needs such an expensive car, even if you are buying it for half its original price. Now if you had a few million in the bank, it may be a different story.

There'll be others along at better prices for you. Keep the faith and you'll get one when the time is right.
Of course there is the possibility that when this "other buyer" disappears, the dealer will come back to you with his sensible hat on.

It disappeared from the website this morning so I am pretty sure it's gone. Had another talk with the wife and I can see her point that £72K spent on something which will depreciate quickly is hardly sensible (it's not as if it is a GT4 in the depreciation department) but I'll find a way!

540i X Drive are half that price if the 5 without the M is still attractive. The cost to change would be rather more palatable.

It's also slower than my current car which I would probably prefer to keep, knowing all its history and condition.

New one's going to start at £90k + according to CAR mag so you should be fine.

And if it is 90k its out of my league. The dealers told me I'd probably get a car but in the second batch and would take one if it wasn't that much more than what I could trade mine for.
Dan't see 90K plus though. The old one started at late 60's call it mid 70k with a few options.
