I have a friend who has a Macan Turbo and I have to say that it is very nice. Doesn't sound much like a Porsche but in all other respects it's smart, comfy, attractive inside and out, and goes like the proverbial knifed rodent. They also seem to be surprisingly reasonably priced and possessed of decent residuals.
Not very big inside though.
Bit flashy though?
I know someone who bought his wife a Macan Turbo for her birthday last year. They are tight on the inside.
It's very flashy - (a) it's a Porsche, (b) it's an SUV and (c) it's got black paint, black leather, 21" alloys and an entirely dubious "MACAN" numberplate.
I rather meant that the actual underlying car is very nice (painted a different colour with a different interior colour, different wheels and with my own entirely dubious numberplate)...

Less than 60k is the starting point for the new RS4. Ok it ain't the last work in adjustability but then neither's a Macan

Are Audi actually selling RS models in the UK at the moment? You try finding one on their UK website.

I read on Autocar that the Fiat version of the MX-5 has also fallen victim but I don't think that'll affect anyone here.

The Audi website and configurator are a joke right now. I've emailed them and a couple of dealers and not had any replies yet. They don't seem to have anything for sale apart from what they have in stock!

Indeed.... if you want a TT quattro, you can only have it with the most powerful petrol engine, a 45 whatever that is supposed to mean

...but not with silver paint, the configurator won't let you select it.

An RS4 would have been very high up on my list but you can't get one and they expect a 9mth delivery wait. One of the RS4's biggest issues though is pricing. By the time you add the extras that come as standard on a BMW and the other extras I would want, a new RS4 is nearly £75K. From what I have read, the adaptive suspension is great and makes Comfort mode very acceptable on UK roads - but it's £2K. Folding mirrors, memory seats, upgraded sound, tyre pressure monitor etc, etc are all extras but standard on most of the competition.
By the time they get them back into production it will be time for the next model to be introduced.

I know there is some supply issue with rs4s but assuming it returns to normal you can get huge discounts on brand new ones usually .when the previous generation came out some people near me did a group buy, they bought 3 and got 17k off each through stoke Audi .This was at launch .

Plenty of used ones around for sub 60k But none with the right colour or the kind of spec I would want. There are also lots of ex press test fleet cars. In particular KU18 LPA, KW67 MWA and KW67 MWV plus at least 2 of the red cars for sale (and I wouldn't have red)

If you can afford it, do it. You've tyre kicked a lot of stuff, time to take that leap. You sound like you work hard, what's it all for if you don't enjoy it. I'm with Ed on this. Sometimes you just need to go with your 8-year-old self and to hell with the economics.

I have asked two of my car dealer clients for their thoughts - one is telling me I will take a bath and shouldn't do it. The other is telling me that over 9 months that car has only lost £200 in the book (apparently c£72K 9 months ago, increased in value during the summer and then fell away again from November) and has thrown the "life's too short" comment back at me and it's only £250 more a month than I was paying, so get it done. I do wonder if his comments are to some extent governed by the fact that he knows how well I keep my cars and he has bought the last 3 off me at about £1,000 over book and has still made £2,000 - £3,000 profit. Anyone want to pay me £20,000 for a perfect 435D with new tyres, extended warranty, balance of service pack and almost every conceivable extra?

Ooooh tempting I understand what dealer no 2 is saying but the improvement in value is only temporary and if you look at M£/4/5 prices at, say, 4 years old they all show the same pattern. I don't see any reason to suspect that the new M5 will change that so as long as you're prepared for it to be worth around £30-35k in 3 years time. In more general terms there was a clear uplift in the market for bigger engined cars a couple of years ago as enthusiasts realised the small turbo era was gathering pace but among the models I'm keeping tabs on that has stopped and in some cases has actually reversed. In particular the Alfa GT 3.2 has dropped in value based on Autotrader prices, despite there being a few articles recently about how great they are and the fact that 147/156 GTAs are comfortably double the price despite having the same underpinnings.

As has been said, if we based all our buying decisions on our head we'd all be running round in economy diesels. For over 100 years cars have been a "heart" purchase and, anyway, if you can afford it, go for it. What else is there to spend your money on, apart from alcohol and dirty women?

I sense you are slowly persuading yourself this is a good idea. I suspect you are now at the stage where you could walk away, but know that really, 2 weeks later, you'd be regretting your decision as an M5 cruised by you on the road.

I don’t have any regrets at all in getting a new(ish) V8 while I still can. Sounds like you don’t even need man maths to make it work, so even easier!

There's no hurry - the car is only recently on the market and still in production (I assume subject to WLTP rules) so you have time to wait for the prices to come down and the right spec car to appear.
EDIT My name is Tim and I've recently become capable of making grown up decisions
