There used to be an amateur system, but that wasn’t what they called it! Only one option now and a very good one it is, I’d struggle to justify the cost of buying new but my teenage kids love it. Even better when you can recline the seat, rest your head on the Alcantara pillow and have a massage while watching a Blueray!

They've got a similar one for something like £78k, is that just spec differences?

They've got a similar one for something like £78k, is that just spec differences? The newer car has the Sports Exhaust but the price difference will be because it's 6 months newer even though it has been used rather than just registered. The lower priced one is coming up for 12 months since it was registered. Nearly new BMWs in Northern Ireland are usually cheaper than the mainland, they always come up first in an Autotrader search.

I am not blown away by the difference between the exhausts from what I can hear, so the standard switchable exhaust is fine but more importantly it has both the comfort and premium packs together with the Driving Assistant Plus. I have just had a video and the car has 76 miles on it and is kept indoors in a separate M showroom.

Having heard that, I’d stick with standard too. Bit too many daft crackles and pops when revving at idle, but sounds better on the move and I assume there are less when the valves are shut off and some of that’s covered up by the fake noise inside?
It’s nowhere near as bad as some (RR SVR), but I prefer the much more natural sound (with no fakery) mine makes.

The one I drove sounded much more natural/normal that either of those but as you say it could be the fake sound being piped in. The exhaust is automatically switched to the flap open when the car is started and you have to make a conscious decision to make it quiet.

Yes, I’ve listed to some clips from inside when accelerating and it sounds very different (in a good way), very similar to mine actually, which doesn’t have any fake sound. Only the 750d and M760Li have fakery. I’m not too bothered about piped sound, depends on what the end result is as it could be better than the alternative. It’s not great in the Golf. For some reason VW decided to make it sound like a 5 pot, which it isn’t, so it’s set to eco and you can’t hear it at all.

I'm reading your mind again...... I suspect you will get the car, but you won't be availing yourself of the 12.9% APR finance. 12.9%. WTAF!!!

Get it turned off by someone with VCDS, which might involve signing up to a one make forum to find someone nearby, or go to a dealership on a weekend and hang around by the bike sheds until a technician sneaks out for a fag and bung him some beer tokens to do it.

I’m aware you can do that but no need, as my motorway and around town setting is Comfort, which doesn’t give you fake noise and I use Individual when pressing on which has it set to Eco.

I'm looking at a ridiculously priced car purchase and the interest rates from the dealership add on between 6 and 10 grand to the window sticker with either HP or PCP.

I have a business manager but the online tool I use to get an advisory rate is: www.lombard.co.uk/lombard/products-services/assets/vehicles.html?extcam=L_PBP_GGL_Bus_LmbrdCV_ZOMThis applies to business but they also do personal deals at competitive rates or as Martin mentioned a personal loan from Tesco is very attractive, up to £25K. If you want an idea of costs put yourself down as self employed which will let you in to the calculator but you will need to phone the number they give for personal applications.

I agree with Michael that the M5 looks a lot better than the standard G30. Even in M Sport guise, the G30 doesn’t quite do it for me. The M5 has a BMW-ness about it, that the E34, E39 and E60 M Sport had.
Love the fact that the silver M5 has silver tail pipes. The tail pipes look great, and round – no need to hide them in black. Not getting the obsession with black wheels, black grille’s, black exhaust. Nope.

I got passed by one going up the hill coming out of Evesham (if you know the road you know the ridiculously tight corners ) I was on the gt3 and the driver obviously wanted to wave his penis around so he overtook me at a speed which was impressive in what it said about the car ,but shouted ‘lock the driver up ‘ . It looked very composed ,and huge ,not sure I’d want to drive one on the roads near me,but for a motorway beast it looks tremendous . Do you mean fish hill by Broadway?

Put the Airmatic in maximum sport mode and it is surprising just how fast you can take those bends in the Benz.

Aaaaaaany way, back to the topic of this thread. Get it bought. It would be rude not to.
I faffed about and missed out on what would have been my dream car of a lifetime about six months ago and have regretted it ever since.

You need to finish that story off James! It was probably something about 80 years old. Back on topic, my wife is slightly unhappy at the cost and thinks the E63 is a better looking car (but she wouldn't come and look/test drive them). If I can get the price to start with a 6 I think we're in.

If she wasn’t interested enough to look, it’s only fair it’s your choice and you let her get an X4.....you should be able to get anything you like! Sounds like a done deal to me, only downside I can see is having to get a ferry back at this time of year. James - I have no idea what that is, but I know I’d rather have an M5

1928 Lagonda 2 Litre Speed model. I fully understand that I am in a minority wanting to spend close to M5 money on that.
Looks like a trip across the water is imminent.
