So what happens if your SORN'd uninsured car gets nicked off your drive?

I’m in Barons Bedford this morning, home of Johns M5. They have an Imola Red II (£4,825 option) competition in the showroom, nice spec with premium/comfort packs and piano black trim. Feels compact inside, bordering on small compared to the 7. Excellent seats, they’re a bit firmer than I’m used to but the wide range adjustment is the same plus they’re much more supporting as you’d expect and I do like the shoulder support. The full Merino leather covers up a lot of the plastics making it feel like a big step up from a standard 5 series, some areas (switches, door handles etc) aren’t as good as you get with a 7 but it’s not far away. Interesting (probably only to me!) is that Full Merino in a 5 gets you slightly less leather coverage than partial Nappa on the 7.

I'm at Castle Combe with the Audi Sport forum and someone turned up in this: He had an RS4 up until a couple of weeks ago apparently.

I do like the competition wheels and black trim/grille I have only spoken to one person who has driven the Competition Pack and they reckon it is certainly better in terms of body roll and turn in - on a track. For the road they would have the standard one. I certainly wouldn't want mine any harder for the slow speed poor road surfaces we have but it does get considerably smoother as the speed increases. I had a bit of a blast on Sunday morning and the composure of the chassis is astonishing: it absorbs the lumps and bumps that would have given my 4 series a tough time and it just grips and flies out of corners. The brakes are massive and jaw dropping in their ability to shed speed and the transition from hard braking to turn in to foot to the floor is all very smooth and easy. The black grills could easily be added to a standard car but the forged wheels might be a bit much to stomach - I believe they are over £1K each!

Was passed by an M5 Competition this morning as I walked from my house to the tube. Then had the chance to walk past it as it waited at the lights at the top of our road and then accelerated off. Sounded great and, in Rhodonite Silver with wheels that weren’t completely black, looked fantastic too.

Rhodonite Silver would have been my first choice of colour but there were no cars in the country with that colour. I could have had a factory order but that was going to add about £15K to the cost, effectively just for the colour - that would have been madness beyond reason (and my means) so it wasn't happening and I am very happy with my Marina Bay Blue.

Rhodonite Silver would be my choice if ordering a new M5 as well. It’s not as special as Pure Metal Silver, but at £1100 vs £7000 it would be an easy decision to make!

Well quite - entirely.
I would liked (and could have had) my 4GC in Individual Oxford Green II, but at circa £3k it wasn't justifiable. Equally Tanzanite Blue is lovely but not £845's worth of lovelier than Carbon Black, which is pretty similar and was free.
And then inside, I could have splashed £2500 on having Individual "Cohiba" dark brown merino extended leather with leather dash-topping and some very nice Individual auburn sycamore wood trim. Which would also have all been lovely but in the category of "more money than sense".
I actually only regret not going for the leather dash-topping, which on its own without Individual leather, adds a "mere" £845. I do think that would have made £845's worth of difference to the sense of a luxury ambience in the cabin.

One of the unexpected big plusses for me was that the upgraded leather seats that came with my car meant that it got full leather on just about everything you can touch, including the dash, doors, door caps etc. It does add quite a bit to the feel good factor.

Yes, the original owner of my E60 M5 had ticked the Full Merino Interior option and it was very lovely - very little that wasn't covered in high-grade black leather, plus an alcantara roof-lining.

Full leather doesn’t always mean what it used to in the M5, it ends at the armrest level now, but at least it’s standard and the lower leather, while nice as it means everything is covered isn’t really that noticeable. Back to your point on the cost/value of adding the leather dash and nicer seat coverings, it’s one of the downsides of PCPs. If you were buying with cash, the man maybe would be mush easier as you’re spending circa £40k, so it's ‘only’ another £1600 or so for both after discount. However, on PCP that means another £350 a month which is a large % increase.

Still a sufficiently sizeable enough increase (25% or so) to put me off as I had promised my wife I'd keep the PCP under £400 pcm (it's £390!).

Excuse my terrible maths, must have been thinking about something else. Full leather still means that on some models, but thankfully orange wood is no longer an option.
Under £400 is great value for the spec you’ve got.
Thankfully I didn’t have to promise anything, I’m not sure she even knows (or is bothered) by how much mine costs.
