So this is going to be the Forum's second Beast, both in firepower and longevity stakes?
Twelfth - how long have you had the Beast now - 12 years?
It was either the end of 2006 or the beginning of 2007 so that's about right. I hope that legislation allows me to at least consider keeping it for that length of time. I'm sure that legislation will allow you to keep it for as long as you want.... it's just the cost of keeping it (and using it) may alter (almost certainly in the wrong direction)

If mine was defined as Beast, I think John's is at least a league up (if not more) - maybe it could be called Titan? I like the sound of that!
13/1/07 was the collection date, I seem to recall. Still very much in love - just wish I'd had the remap done earlier, really. I'm toying with having a couple of parts of the exhaust deleted, which would liberate a little more power and sound, but we'll see. Sensible head is firmly on now, and rather than making a decent size regular contribution to my pension and topping it up with ad hoc sums to the desired level, it's all going in monthly now so I am being sensible whilst I adjust. It's a far bigger direct debit than any other I've had...

On the way home I attracted the wrong kind of attention from a green Scirocco who latched on to my tail just when the road got narrower with lots of blind crests, twists and turns. I had no inclination to get into any kind of race and just cruised along at a decent speed without pushing anything. He eventually showed me his headlights when he overtook in a 40mph section and disappeared at nearly twice that speed. I thought he wasn't going to make the corner at the end of the short straight but he managed by using the other side of the road too! That kind of attention, I am not going to enjoy. Much will depend upon how, when and where you drive it, but anything purposeful-looking does seem to attract more than its fair share of fuckwits. On the way to swimming today I had a Mondeo estate (no idea what engine) up my chuff for a while and tried a TLGP, and on the way back a van who was determined to be able to see in the rear footwells. Sometimes it makes sense to gently fuck with them by using short, controlled bursts ((c) Aliens) of acceleration away from junctions, corners etc and by cornering with a degree of vigour. Other times, you just dispense carbons - it's a public service. The van did try to do the right-left at pace and clearly saw sense.

Nothing wrong with just calling it the M5....and that’s just to differentiate it from the other BMW in your household.

I love some of BMW's colours that "pop" in sunlight, Tanzanite Blue is another colour that does that. Looks nice when its cloudy, but looks spectacular in the sun.

Looks largely black other than in sunlight or artificial light, and then it is unmistakably a lovely midnight blue.
The Dream Black on the Z1 used to do likewise. Looked black until you put it next to a car which was actually black, and in the sunlight it had an unusual iridescent blue / green shimmer similar to a crow's wing.

Carbon black looks it’s best under car park or sodium street lights - makes the blue really stand out

Well if you ever find 600 bhp underwhelming you will be pleased to know dms will tune it up to just under 800bhp .

I watched the Grand Tour episode last night where they put the M5 and the Alpina round the Eboladrome. The M5 looked tremendous and although I agreed with Clarkson about the Alpina probably being a better day to day car for the average driver, I couldn't live with those awful 70s pin stripes down the side.

I wouldn't have an Alpina without them. Big Gold Alpina stripes down the sides just has that nostalgia about it. Yes everyone who isn't a petrolhead thinks your a nobber but so what.

They already think that. I don't need to point it out so obviously.

I think the Alpina stripes are awful and the logo on the front bumper (it can be more discreet now) and big badges on the back aren’t much better. Way too 80s for me.
The thing I like most about Alpina is they are a great wolf in sheep’s clothing, that’s lessened with badges and stripes.

I clearly replied to this topic without referring to Alpina Stripes.
Without them the car is poorer. Rear badges are shit; front one is nice. It should be Alpina Green car/ gold stripes; Alpina Blue car/ silver stripes. Other colours can select but those are the actual Alpina colours. The newest wheels without the centre caps are nicer than those with just because they’re easier to live with.
Anyway, just had new rear EDC dampers fitted. Easy enough: took 90 minutes to do both. Took the best part of a day to reprogramme the rest of the car to accept that they are present and they are OEM parts (Sachs make them).

How much did that cost? Or is it of the "if you feel the need to ask, you can't afford" variety...?
I would not have stripes or script badges on any Alpina I bought. Just don't like them. Would perhaps just replace the BMW roundels for Alpina ones.

How much did that cost? Or is it of the "if you feel the need to ask, you can't afford" variety...? £1,300 incl VAT before the software upgrade. I also asked them to change the brake fluid as the OBC said it needed changing "soon". I collect it tomorrow afternoon, simply because I have been too busy to get it otherwise. According to a couple of E92 forums the 60-70k mile lifespan I have experienced is pretty typical. Many swap the EDC for non-EDC aftermarket ones but they still need to access the software to tell it there is no EDC anymore. Would perhaps just replace the BMW roundels for Alpina ones. Sacrilege! The body roundels should always be BMW ones; only the wheels and steering wheel have the Alpina one.

Spotted this today but didn't take a close up pic in case I was spotted by the owner! Is this a current shape one or an older version? Edit: cropped out my car and the Shitroen in the background.

I took a sneaky snap when getting in the car and didn't look too close. It was very eye catching but did look an awful lot like the green used on Audi TTs and VW Sciroccos.
