I'm sure that's what the mag said.
Don't forget they'll be looking to milk its value - the original was selling for £90k+ as a delivery mileage car and I'm sure Porsches people will think they missed out spectacularly.
According to the online article on CAR's website the first gen GT4 outsold the normal Cayman 2.7.

Its totally understandable why they don't, but its a shame that BMW won't be bringing the M550i to the UK. V8, 4WD, still bloody fast. It too would depreciate heavily. Imo, the 50i V8 models like the M850i sound better than the standard M5. I've been pleasantly surprised how they sound, for twin-turbos.
The depreciation on that E63 almost wants to make me cry. Not sure to think whether its a bargain, or a continuing money pit. A barley used E63, quite a bit cheaper than a new C63 - madness. You would need a lot of brave pills to buy new. Most expensive stuff will suffer heavy depreciation, but the used prices on hot versions of exec saloons never fail to amaze.

They do bottom out though ,they very quickly drop to say 25 or 35k and then that’s it,they just dribble depreciation as opposed to haemorrhaging it . They are the ourstanding used buys ,if you can afford to run one.

Berry Chiswick have reduced the price of their 18 reg, B&W equipped M5 to £70k, so you’d be able to get it for something starting with a wife friendly 6!

I have noticed a few dealers with cars that aren't on the BMW website. I wonder if BMW charge a commission for selling through their site?
The only thing that car doesn't have is the Driving Assistant Plus. Do you use the features of this much on your 7 Series?
Car buying is on the back shelf for a couple of weeks though because I go on holiday tomorrow to recharge the batteries.

Similar system on the Golf, which is great is very slow traffic, but I still prefer normal cruise control. Enjoy the break!

Thanks Martin I will. It will be lots of sitting around watching the world go by, together with gentle walks and good food. Really looking forward to it.
Back onto cars, is the B&W stereo a noticeable improvement over the HK system (which is definitely a massive improvement over the standard Binatone set up)?

Back onto cars, is the B&W stereo a noticeable improvement over the HK system (which is definitely a massive improvement over the standard Binatone set up)? Yes, it’s a big difference. I was in a colleagues new 530e a couple of weeks ago and he wanted to demonstrate “the performance and amazing HK speakers”. I thought they sounded pretty good, surprisingly no better than the half price (£550) Dynaudio set up in the Golf, but I would spec them every time over the basic set up. I don’t know how I’d justify the cost, but I’m pretty sure I’d spec the B&W on a new build. That’s the problem with expensive options on used cars, you get spoilt.

Agree that's totally the wrong colour for any 5 series.
How much are the ceramic brakes on a new one because presumably they're still adding significantly to the used price?

The ceramic brakes are about £6K but they don't seem to be making much of a difference on the used cars where prices are basically similar for steel or ceramic. I dare say that there are few M5 owners who would ever take their cars on track so I can't imagine the demand (or the willingness to pay extra) is very high.

3 things you can rely on Death, Taxes and M5 depreciation.
Its a nasty spec which doesn't help it cause and Ceramics can detract rather than add value due to the potential for large bills.

At least the magazines have calmed down a bit on their previous desire for every car to have ceramics fitted, where available.
They were pretty bad for that a couple of years ago but as John says how often are M5s going to be on track?

If that were an estate (I know they never did an estate of that version of the M5) and if I had a load of spare money, I'd be very tempted by that one.....

I quite like the colour but everything else about that car isn't great. Don't like the pale interior or the wheels. Ceramic brakes are for willy wavers, too.

I didn't spec them, but the RS fora seem to swear by them - not for ultimate stopping power but for durability (a set of conventional front D&Ps is £1,500+) and the fact that you get no brake dust - clean wheels all the time.

Given how quickly they seem to get grubby, I'd take it! The cheaper solution is grey alloys - the M135i had grey alloys and the 440i has alloys which are mostly grey. They do get dirty but you don't really notice until you clean them and notice that they are now much shinier.

Having a silver car is a lot better than a dark blue one, but still gets dirty frustratingly quickly at this time of the year. I'd be happy with Ceramics for the lack of brake dust, especially now you can have standard coloured callipers (on Porsche anyway) rather than yellow/gold which don't look right to me.

EBC pads everyone. Half the cost of OEM, work just as well and next to no dust on yer wheels. a set of conventional front D&Ps is £1,500+ I have this to look forward to. Apparently the discs only have a wear tolerance of 1mm!

I have recently had contact with someone who is ex BMW dealer senior staff. His view on the M5 is that BMW made a real mess of it's launch. I quote: "The Bavarian car is nice (had a look online) however it is not a competition model! BMW made a fundamental mistake when they launched this car in that they launched this model, built lots of them with no end users! 2 weeks after launch they announced the competition model which impacted on the unsold M5’s, hence the ‘pre-reg’ of these models. That said, if you really want this car, I would offer them £70k taxed. If it was me, I would hold off, the current uncertainty in the UK will drive prices down further and perhaps you can pick up an perfect specification for less." I haven't driven the Competition model so I have no idea how it rides but I wouldn't be interested if it turned the M5 into the kind of ride the E63 has.

Agreed, the E63 does not ride well at all and the seats in the S are awful which doesn't help. The comments re the Competition make sense and BMW haven't made the same error with the X3/X4M.

That car has just come down another £1K! That’s daily depreciation you don’t want to be any part of! It's fallen from £80K to £73K in about 9 weeks. A lot of them fell between £2K and £4K about the beginning of the month and there now seems to be another raft of £1K reductions. How far can the prices fall and how fast? It does feel like a roller coaster I'm not sure I want to get on at the moment.
