Just got the renewal through from Admiral and it appears to be about the same as last year.
One thing I noticed is that the Micra costs £1 less to insure than the M5. Must be that expensive modern tech on the new cars that bumps up the price.

The Cupra costs £44 more per year to insure than the Ibiza...
I am lost with the logic on that one, it is insured in my better 3/4's name though.

I can’t see the logic with insurance premiums either - going from £2k worth of 120hp standard Cooper to £15k worth of 192hp Cooper S has increased the premium by less than £40 to an eye watering £170!

There isn’t any logic. I pay £1250 for the BMW which is £400 more than the 535d, but a nearly new Panamera 4S would have been just under £1,000 despite it being worth a fair bit more. A full fat RR was just over £2,000, but not too surprised about that.
£170 is the cost of filling up both cars!

There is a logic, but it's based on the Company's risk profile, historical claims and a myriad of variables. It might be illogical that an M5 costs less to insure than a Golf but if all the M5 drivers insured by that company are not having claims for one reason or another and teenagers in Golfs are, then it makes sense. I go drinking* with a guy who heads up the AA's insurance arm and he explained it, but since it was towards the end of the night and I'd had a fair few, much of it went over my head.
*Or it might have been an AA meeting accompanying an insurance broker, I forget.

Just had the renewal through for the Saab, a lovely increase of 40%, from £500 to £700.
See ya, Hastings, you robbing bastards.

Just had to book an online appointment with Autoglass via Admiral. All painless, though the exact time is to be arranged - just the day booked at present. I am keen to make sure that the replacement part accommodates rain-sensing wipers and suto dimming mirror, though thinking about it, the windscreen won't affect the latter, will it?

There is normally a sensor on the mirror for auto dimming.

Ouch. When I smashed the windscreen on the Compact they asked on the phone specifically if it had the rain sensor or the shade band. I said no to both but wouldn't mind the shade band if they could see there way to fit it, which they did.

Mine went up when I moved to the new place, by a fair bit too.

That looks fairly substantial Simon!! At least two of the 5 replacements on my Legacy were as bad as that, plus the first one where the ned tried to go through it to get to my ipod .. .. .. mine had a heating element in the bottom area of glass, which one 'fitter' managed to fuck up, resulting in a free replacement a week later.

Ouch, was it a brick which hit it?.
Renewal through for Lotus this week, Classicline £145 3000m pa. Not sure I can be bothered to shop around for that tbh.
Although I need to sort out agreed value again, it took me 12 months to fill in the paperwork, so the 2yr valuation is due again after a year!

What surprises me is that I hadn't actually noticed it, so there was no bit impact. Runs all the way from behind passenger's sun visor to sensor behind mirror. It is indeed a biggie...

I got a new windscreen for the M5, which has auto dimming and rain sensitive wipers, and it all still works fine.

Well, my words are well and truly eaten. Not only did Hastings only charge me £1.30 to swap to the BMW for the remaining 2 weeks of my policy, but they managed to reduce my renewal by over £250 to less than I was paying last year.
The only issue is I had jumped the gun and meerkatted a new policy, so I now have to cancel that and get my deposit refunded.
This is the first time in 21 years of driving that I have remained with the same insurance company for more than one term.

I've remained with LVE, although only just. They sent a renewal for £450 and then I managed to get improved cover through one o f the comparisons websites with the same company for £350 along with £32 chasback from quidco.

for the umpteenth year running Hastings Direct have come out cheapest for me, filling every box for my insurance needs (Hastings Essential are cheaper still but misses out on some benefits - but not by much).
Insurance on the Mondeo due 7/9/19 for myself as main driver and Julie as named driver with a 7000 annual mileage limit.
Renewal price was £201.19, just 20p more than last year. Quick phone call to Hastings and some ''is this the best price'' conversation and my new price is £195.84
Happy days
The fact that I got the AA-membership down to £98.36 from a renewal price of £131 is also a great saving. I'm a silver member (which includes a lot of benefits I actually use - like 10% off Halfords purchases, 20% off certain restaurant bills) and onward travel is also a reassurance. They have capped the price again for 2020/21 so I will pay that same price this time next year. Actually cheaper than being a new customer

^ In this day and age I find that a bargain... is that for Fully Comp or 3rd party? Fully Comp. £50 excess £45 compulsory with £85 excess on windscreen cover Car is 14 years old now and both Julie and I are 47 with clean licences. Annual mileage is limited. I only really drive at the weekend, 100 miles each to work and back and we rarely use the car much more than that. Julie walks to work every day, schooling for our daughter is a 0.6 mile walk away and when I go to do most driving jobs I take the train which is 0.4 miles away from me. That cover gets me a courtesy car and I've protected my NCB and I'm allowed to drive another car with third-party cover. £98 for the reassurance of breakdown cover and onward travel is a bargain too, which, if touch wood, I've never had to use, but with 2 girls with me having the reassurance of being able to get home is a massive worry off my mind. Plus the AA guarantee that price for 2020/21 too. I have also taken advantage of their Silver members benefits, 10% off at Halfords for some car cleaning products helps as does 20% off at Harvester (food only) and our local chain-pub the Dun Cow

I use my Tesco clubcard vouchers to get RAC cover, so effectively I get home start, onward travel etc for free. However as they let my wife down so badly on the one occasion in around 25 years o membership when we really needed help fast, I won't pay to belong to them. If anything happens with the Tesco voucher scheme, I will be looking at AA or Green Flag. It is definitely reassuring to have breakdown cover though despite our "experience from hell", made worse as you cannot speak to anyone senior at the RAC, all calls are routed to "customer services" even if you ask for a Director by name, and letters are similarly routed to a team of no-hopers.
I ought to try to get to Caffeine & Machine, especially as it features my initials !

Just had my mother on the phone because she'd had her renewal quote in from NFU on the Countryman and it was £621, well up on the £500 they charged her last year!
Pleased about this because for years I've been asking her to shop around and finally she's consulted me before re-insuring her car.
One visit by me to the meerkats later and it looks like her best bet is £338 from the RAC with all the bells and whistles, breakdown cover and a smaller voluntary excess.
She's obviously delighted, but it annoys me that insurance companies still do this to their customers.

We have just renewed the Cooper Clubman with Quotemehappy. £162 fully comp, legal cover etc., and a moderate excess, but no breakdown cover since that is covered by the MINI warranty. About £12.00 more than last year, but a 10 minute online check still the found it to be the cheapest.

With my mother, I'm guessing it's higher because she's in her 70s and still doing 9,000 miles per year.

I have been with Adrian Flux for about three years on the Defender, mainly due to modifications.
They insured it fine over the last few years, but this year they changed my security to a VSIB installed alarm despite last year having as a DIY install. The VSIB doesn't even exist any more! They have subsequently said they can't find an insurer who will cover it unless I get a new alarm installed.
I gave A Plan a call and they are perfectly happy to insure it. Their only stipulation is that any security device fitted is working and activated. Their base premium is about the same with all mods declared. Breakdown is more expensive, but I usually go with insurance breakdown rather than the usual suspects due to the age of it as finding cover can be tricky otherwise. They were also much more polite and nicer to deal with than Adrian Flux staff on the phone who tend to treat you like a criminal.
Insurance is a little bit of a pain. Everything was on a multi car policy at one point so the Defender, TVR and Mazda are all due at the same time. Ive just chased Footman James as with two weeks to go, I haven't received terms. Flux dated their renewal two weeks ago but only emailed me yesterday. I am sure they do it deliberately to make life difficult in shopping around.
