England were awful. The Scots should be gutted with that result, we were there for the taking. Still good to see Tierney have a good game as he's about to extend his Arsenal contract.

So having watched Your Honour, Bloodlands and Mare of Easttown I have decided that the mantra for modern TV thrillers is to have no characters that the viewer can have any empathy with. There was not one character in any of them you felt sorry for, felt deserved a good break or even acted rationally more often than not. I quite like them as you don’t know who they are going to kill off next or that ‘the hero’ will emerge unscathed at the end. I noticed that about Breaking Bad. Sure you had sympathy for each of the main characters at some point but usually by the time they met their end you didn't.

Currently watching The Flight Attendant. Funny thriller series made by HBO based on a book. Quite good actually. Theme music is grating though - judicious use of ff button is required.

Just finished Clarkson's Farm. Absolutely brilliant. I am surprised just how well it conveyed the constant merry-go-round of joy and crap, life and death and work hard / play hard nature of the job, especially during harvest. Made me want to go back to farming myself...

Made me want to go back to farming myself... I watched it too. Not being a farmer, I found it extremely interesting and I’d hazard a suggestion that it’s one of the best things he’s done in years on tv. His point about the stupidity of some regulations was well made, especially concerning the shop.

I'm not a football fan in any way, but that was a cracking match between France and Switzerland.

The characters in it are great and you get to see a much more interesting and rounded Clarkson than his Top Gear "Power!" caricature. Farming looks a tough business!

Home alone and idling browsing Netflix last night, it suggested I watch Aquaman. So I did. Nearly two and a half hours of laughably preposterous bollocks. But quite enjoyable and visually impressive bollocks all the same. Good "brain in neutral" stuff.

Sara has still, I think, got amazon prime and while enforced leisure might sound fun it obviously wears thin. She talks about 'The watch' which is apparently Pratchett related and the 'Police series' on the beeb but are there any recomendations for time fillers that are out there? I have not a clue tbh, apart from being impressed by 'Good Omens' which I would happily again a few times.
She is getting over a recent colostomy and while the pain meds are a bit high she needs something decent for the reduction phase, distraction if you will. She has long been a user of audio books so if there are any suggestions I can pass them on.
Thanks.

No 5 child is doing stuff from Bugsy Malone for Stagecoach. As this is a ‘70s film that I recall being “must see” as an 8year old we just watched a few clips together.
Now in the 70s I saw it as teenagers having a laugh acting like adult actors. Having just watched those clips of 13 year old girls dancing in their underwear covered in cream I assume that the entire crew have been questioned by the Operation Yewtree team (as it was all filmed in England) and most have been placed on a register of some kind.

Not sure if it means on the telly or one of the streaming service but Babylon five is apparently being developed as a remade series. The original writer is apparently involved so it could be worth a watch.

I've just wanted Cherobyl for the first time. Wow. Incredibly good TV. And hugely thought provoking.
Doubly so, because it also has a lot of resonance with China and Covid. Communist regime suppresses the truth (Cernobyl - reactor design flaws; Covid - gain of function experiments) that later blow up in their faces, but still they suppress the truth to avoid embarrassment and avoid looking "weak". The true scale of the disaster is also hidden - Chernobyl official death toll 31 (actually reckoned up to 100,000 with cancers etc); does anyone believe that less than 5,000 people have died of Covid in China to date? 500,000 maybe...
