Went to see to Manic Street Preachers and Bon Jovi at Anfield last night. Only didn't get to see the Manics because they started around 6pm and we were still on our way. Considering that Anfield organise the arrival of 54000 people every other week during the football season, the traffic etc last night was crap. We got to Stanley Park around 6.45 and the two main car parks where only half full and still wouldn't admit anyone without a permit. Ended up with a 15 minute walk to the stadium but managed to flag a cab (whose driver had no idea who Bon Jovi were..). As to the main act it was disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I don't have the best hearing and I've got a bit of head cold making it worse at the moment, but the drums (bass in particular) was way too loud and Jon's microphone was way too low, so much so that when he was just talking to the crowd you could barely understand him. Which was a pity as it was a 2 hour set with some decent tracks. Still annoyed at myself for missing the Manics. I saw Bon jovi at Maine road in them in 90s ,it was the week after oasis played their supposedly famous homecoming gig there,I went to both and Bon jovi made oasis look a joke. However I have seen them live on you tube recently and his voice is completely gone it seemed to me.

Muppets.
I presume they've already petitioned, for example, Islamic State for killing Christians (among many others)?

Whenever we go to concerts now we always take ear protection of some sort - usually some bogroll to be rolled up and pushed gently into the ear. It seems that over the last 10-15 years most venues have just turned the volume up to about 15 so you can't really appreciate the music without something to muffle it! Mrs Tim saw B-J in their prime and reckoned they were fantastic back then I'm sure they were supported by Magnum then! I saw them before their prime - in 1984 when they released their debut album! And I've seen Magnum twice - 1987 and (I think) 1989. Vigilante and Wings of Heaven tours. My favourite of their albums is On A Storyteller's Night - which is magical. My newest recent 'discovery' is a band called Teeth Of The Sea, whose latest album 'Wraith' is sort of 'kraftwerk meets rolling ambient techno'. I'd heard of the band some years ago, but this is the first album of theirs that I've bought. I like it, it's a pretty intense listen, and has three particularly standout tracks in my opinion.

Currently binge-watching “This is us” on Prime. Never watched box sets before but W2.1 said we should do so picked one out. Not too bad actually.
Might watch that Catch-22 when we’ve done this.

Thought it were right good and all the better for not having a guest in the studio bit. Sounds like they're remedying that next week unfortunately. That wasn't so bad in the end either - a lot better for dropping the bit where they show Harris doing the 'coaching'. Next week's episode is the one they filmed in my home town (the thing with the hearse).

Last night's TG was pretty good. The electrocuting bit was really funny. Shame the star in a car bit is back and I'm not sure I believe the times. Himesh Patel looked like he was out for a Sunday drive.

In the same way Blade Runner is Ridley Scott's Blade Runner or Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet etc etc.

And for something completely different to Bon Jovi:
Ministry of Sound The Annual Classical at The Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool.
Fuck. Me. What an awesome gig. Instant transportation back to my teens/early twenties, but played by proper musicians (in this case the Manchester Concert Orchestra).

On a slightly (!!) more rednecked note, we're off to see Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Hydro on Wednesday. Great band I last saw in 2003, and their farewell tour. (Now, where have we heard that before?!?!) Neglected to take the following day, or morning at least, off - schoolboy error. I strongly suspect I shall be unable to talk much on Thursday .. .. ..

Just watched the movie Rush, about James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Really enjoyed it. Thought the actors did a fantastic job of portraying the drivers and loved the cars. Can’t believe it’s taken me 5 years to get around to seeing it. Maybe it’s growing up with those cars on my wall as a kid that helped me enjoy it so much. F1 was a lot more interesting then!

I find it hard not to feel that Chris Hemsworth looks more like James Hunt than James Hunt did!

There's a new racing fillum coming out later this year about the Ford GT40 that might be good as long as the story is not too fanciful. The Ford was built in Slough for most of its early years and I'm not getting the impression that the film depicts that from the trailer.

Blade Runner was Ridley Scott's invention I think, as the book it was based on was Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids dream of electric sheep?" - which you probably already know!

Not-quite-as-good, serial adaptation? I've never heard it called Mike Nichols' Catch 22, it's just Catch 22. How about the TV series adaptation of Joseph Heller's famous novel Catch 22? You have to give credit where its due and neither Clooney or Nichols would've made their film/series if the book hadn't been written. I mean there have been about 1 million versions of things like Jane Eyre or anything by Shakespeare and I don't remember the producer being namechecked, or at least not without mentioning the originator.

Not-quite-as-good, serial adaptation? Well..seeing as the book is notoriously difficult to adapt for the screen, and the original 1970 film was met with rather lacklustre reviews, and the the George Clooney version is currently rated higher by the critics than that 1970 film....

It’s another one I’m looking forward to. Looks like a decent cast has been put together for it. Got a group of mates looking to go and watch it together which should be a laugh.
