A Facebook post I saw appeared to show a photo of the O2 roof on fire and the School of Art largely intact - perhaps the fire spread the opposite way from the way it is being reported in the media.

I'm mildly bothered that the Glasgow School of Art has gone up in smoke but significantly more unhappy that it's taken the O2 ABC with it, that's one of my favourite music venues and the scene of the last gig I was at in late April. However, assuming that the O2 doesn't get rebuilt perhaps more bands will play at The Barrowlands, another favoured venue that has seemingly fallen out of favour in the last 10 years or so. Must confess, I've never been to the ABC for a gig. Seen quite a few at the Barrowlands back in the day, one particular highlight being the Fun Lovin Criminals - SO drunk that night, it's a wonder I survived! In more recent times, it seems to have been for smaller, up & coming bands, or perhaps some still clinging on to the last vestiges of their career. In other news; Pearl Jam cancelled last night's gig in London due to Eddie Vedder losing his voice! They're hoping to resume th tour in Milan on Friday, but to my mind it's not looking good. Which is a bit of a bugger, as we're flying out to see them tomorrow!! Had a ticket for last night, got train into London, booked Accomodation near o2,so gutted and there’s £300 down the drain . Lots of folks staying in the place I was had come from Scotland and places like Isle of Wight so I got off lightly. Hope his voice is on for you guys going to milan

I think the roof of the O2 was clad with wood - certainly looked like that from inside the venue (not sure why I was looking at the roof when I was there!) so it maybe went up quite quickly if the fire spread from the School of Art? Remember it's below the SofA as well.
A friend mentioned to us at the weekend that there had been an application to redevelop some of that area last year and the SofA had blocked it. Maybe this was to be expected, especially after the other recent fire in a listed building (can't remember which) nearby.

Same building - but only the Mackintosh Library went up in flames the first time. It's a terrible tragedy that the GSA has gone up in smoke; the aerial photos show near total devastation with the outer walls about the only parts remaining.

The old Victoria's night club went up in flames last year and that isn't far away. There are lots of rumours doing the rounds.

Having worked in the nightclub industry, when I saw that I assumed that the club needed a refurb and someone had decreed the insurance company were going to be paying for it, except it got a bit out of hand.

I think the ABC must've taken a lot of the bands that previously played at The Barrowlands, however we saw Opeth there earlier this year and are going to see Danzig there in August so The Barrowlands appears to be on the rise again even before the weekend's bonfire.
Good luck with PJ. Haven't you been to Milan to see them before?
Indeed, we saw them at the San Siro in 2014, then I met up with SimonP and saw them again at the M.K. Bowl. Must confess, I've never been to the ABC for a gig. Leisure Seeker. Donald Sutherland and Helen Mirren in a coming of death movie, rather then coming of age. Don't bother. It was awful. I don't think I've ever walked out of a film, but if we had been sat at the end of a row, Mrs PG and I both said we'd have left after about the first third. It was so slow, ponderous and not funny. To quote that famous review written by a lady critic after a particularly bad theatre trip "if you don't knit, take a book".

Traffic congestion looming for Dundee this evening as the Western approach road to the Tay Bridge is closed as there's a gig happening on the grass square opposite the new V&A building. I've heard there are tickets still available so if any of you fancy an open air music event there's still time. The only (massive) downside is that you'd be listening to Steps, Aqua and Blue

Got in from our (veerrryyy) long trip home from Milan at half-past midnight. Saw Pearl Jam on Friday, Eddie's voice very far from "back"; a few tracks were far more guitar orientated than usual (or ever, in one case!) and Stone Gossard sang one of the songs - never seen/heard that before! The show only lasted barely 2 hours too, as opposed to the usual 3+ hours. Still an excellent night, and although we were pretty far back from the stage, because we were pretty centrally placed the sound was far, far better than we'd experienced in San Siro. I'll shall post some pics later. Slight downside was we had to move rooms on the Saturday night, which meant we could hear that night's gig far better than I'd have liked in an ideal world - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds! Edited for pics. These things get everywhere!

Been watching Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing on iPlayer and enjoying the camaraderie. In E3, though, Paul states that the river they're fishing in is the only place in the UK where wild rainbow trout can be found. I'm sure I can walk down the road and see some in a mill pond there and I'm also sure it doesn't form part of a trout farm.

Possibly, I'm no expert. I think I have a photo somewhere on the PC. I'll post it up later.

Just finished S2 of Luke Cage on Netflix. Much better than the first season, which was pretty dull. I also see Shooter is back on after an extended/enforced hiatus.
Also started watching Into The Badlands again on Amazon, but it seems to have stopped for one of those annoying mid-season breaks that the Yanks love to insert.

The new Sacha Baron Cohen thing on 4, a bit hit and miss but the kindergarten gun thing and the dick Cheney interview were hysterical.

Normal TV is not really getting a look in for me at present, I'm spending most of my time watching The Skid Factory on Youtube. Basically, it's an offshoot of Mighty Car Mods, but doesn't feature Marty and Moog and instead focusses on Al (AKA Turbo Yoda) as he builds increasingly batshit mental cars on a reasonable budget for his mates. I like Al as he's a very quiet and unassuming guy (Unusual for an Aussie..) but really knows his stuff and has a dry sense of humour. The more I watch what he does, the more I want to do it myself. I have a myriad of ideas that I sadly don't have the money, space or time to put into practice.
I'm also watching Street Outlaws: A 'reality' show about a group of drag car drivers from Oklahoma who specialise in 'no prep' street racing and brag that they are the fastest in the world. The cars are mental and the guys are all largely typical brash Yanks, with a few quiet dudes thrown in for good measure. They spend most of their time racing each other for positions on their Top 10 list, but often find themselves being challenged by out of towners or entering competitions. It's brain out stuff and the cars are genuinely impressive bits of kit.

I was at a gig at the Borrowlands in Glasgow last night and there were signs outside telling people not to take photos/video and this was supported by a few event staff going through the crowd during the gig when they saw people doing those things.
Very refreshing as only a handful took any pictures/video and quickly got the message. There wasn't even anyone talking through the performance either. Everyone was paying attention to the band, which is surely why you;re at a gig?

Went to Iron Maiden last night. Epic. Almost as epic as LSII's reaction when I dropped the tickets on him after telling him we couldn't afford it and that he'd have to go and see Mamma Mia with his Ma & sister
