Not enough time to spend with his family and friends, apparently. Aw, diddums. Welcome to my world. Fair play to him IMO. So many stars chase the fame and attention constantly and he would rather spend it his time at home.

I know they have to travel a bit to film stuff, but it's not the worst job in the world and he is well compensated for it I imagine. Not aware he's especially busy in actual acting, or anything like it, so I suspect there may be other issues at play here. There again, not sure I really care that much.

Still fair play to him IMO.

I’ve not seen / heard that he’s moaning about it, just done something about it!
I agree, fair play to him and he will be difficult to replace.

I think I'm just feeling a little bit "anti" at the moment. Not him per se, as I think he's done a good job, just seems to me a bit inconsiderate to the Beeb and, more importantly us, as licence payers. Plus, I'm outside a rather nice bottle of Malbec - so, fuck him!

And he doesn't owe the license payer anything either. I don't know anything about Le Blanc's private life but if travelling and working in the UK and to various locations around the world is impacting it negatively then he's entitled to make what he feels is the best decision for him.

He already has a US TV series that pays him four million dollars a year. I doubt the Beeb are matching it... m.imdb.com/title/tt5536400/

Some horrific suggestions for replacements going around that could put me off watching. James Martin anyone? Philip Glenister? Dermot O'Leary? My favourite possibilities: 1. Guy Martin 2. Rebecca Jackson. If they go down the PC route and insist on having a lady presenter I'd like her to be a cute one! LeBlanc and Chris Harris were making a really good duo. Rory Reid was good to start with, but became a bit annoying latterly. Agreedthere have been some horrific suggestions as to replacements. Maybe if Amazon don't renew the GT for series 3, the three amigos could come back?

I suspect LePlank is going because the viewing figures are less than stellar...

Needs another Auto Journo or racer in my opinion.
James Martins an irritant of the highest order so I'd go for someone like Plato seeing his careers going to shit or Jethro Bovingdon whos doing wonders on one of the Yank mags.

I suspect LePlank is going because the viewing figures are less than stellar... So you think the fall in ratings is down to Matt Le Blanc? Who would you suggest would have maintained the ratings after the other 3 left? Also, given the poor ratings for The Grand Tour is that why that show has been canned?

Didn't say any of that - merely suggesting that sinking ships tend to get deserted.

Loved the last series of Top Gear and think its their best work and by far eclipsing the Grand Tour.
I can only assume that having gone a bit more car orientated than the general entertainment show of the Clarkson era its cost those viewers that aren't petrol heads.

Agreed on James Martin (although I've only ever seen him when they do the link to his show when I'm watching the news on a Saturday (I think) morning but even that's enough).
Plato was on 5th Gear for a while and was decent enough.
Isn't Bovingdon reputedly very up himself?

Trouble is Plato is going to be too car orientated in his approach, which is fine for 5th Gear but it’ll never get back the viewers who watch TG to be entertained. Sadly I think TG is unlikely to reach its peak again.

Peak viewers or peak content?
Bovingdon spent a good 20 minutes chatting to me and the missus one time so he's more than alright by me. Lovely bloke.

Peak viewers or peak content? What you and I might see as most important of the two might be different to the measure the BBC have to use to demonstrate value to the BBC Board are likely to be starkly different.

That's why we have the licence fee is it not. The BBC wasn't supposed to cheapen itself with something so naff as chasing ratings.

Top Gear with the new team is pulling in 2.5 million viewers in its time slot, and that will probably increase with those watching on delay in catch up - all in all pretty respectable when you think the top show across the UK at that slot is Call the Midwife with "only" 7.5m viewers on prime time BBC1. It's nowhere near what the old Top Gear with the other 3 was bringing in but that took 10 years to build its audience.

The Grand Tour is an odd one. I haven't watched all of S2 yet but will on my summer holidays away with the in-laws: how do the rating deal with that? In fact how does ratings account for people that wait for whole series to be published then binge them over a weekend in bed with a bottle of rum, some coke, a hooker and a box of johnnies? GT was only commissioned for 3 series, the fee and budget was allegedly immense and it served its purpose of using one of the biggest internationally recognisable TV teams to promote Prime TV, which we hardly ever looked at before GT was on despite having Prime for years beforehand. Now we have this as our prime [sic] movie source.

Not sure that was anything other than tabloid speculation, apparently it has been amazons most successful original show in terms of gaining new subscribers.

I'm mildly bothered that the Glasgow School of Art has gone up in smoke but significantly more unhappy that it's taken the O2 ABC with it, that's one of my favourite music venues and the scene of the last gig I was at in late April.
However, assuming that the O2 doesn't get rebuilt perhaps more bands will play at The Barrowlands, another favoured venue that has seemingly fallen out of favour in the last 10 years or so.

Must confess, I've never been to the ABC for a gig. Seen quite a few at the Barrowlands back in the day, one particular highlight being the Fun Lovin Criminals - SO drunk that night, it's a wonder I survived! In more recent times, it seems to have been for smaller, up & coming bands, or perhaps some still clinging on to the last vestiges of their career. In other news; Pearl Jam cancelled last night's gig in London due to Eddie Vedder losing his voice! They're hoping to resume th tour in Milan on Friday, but to my mind it's not looking good. Which is a bit of a bugger, as we're flying out to see them tomorrow!!

I think the ABC must've taken a lot of the bands that previously played at The Barrowlands, however we saw Opeth there earlier this year and are going to see Danzig there in August so The Barrowlands appears to be on the rise again even before the weekend's bonfire.
Good luck with PJ. Haven't you been to Milan to see them before?
