That is nice. What's the P going to be OA?

That is nice. What's the P going to be OA? Somewhere around £1 million I should think. If I had the spare cash I would already be on the phone...

That is gorgeous but is the price really representative? At about one third of the current demand, I might have been interested if I had the space, money and time

Yes, price is representative. A manual 850CSi is pretty much the holy grail of 8 series.

Like that a lot. The 914 equivalent perhaps.

That’s been in my saved list for a while, if it was a Boxster it would probably be in my garage.

I clicked on calculate monthly payment option
24 month PCP, 10 k miles per annum and £10k deposit:
£ 1929 a month based on a GMFV of £ 44,792.
36 month PCP - same annual mileage and deposit:
£1512 a month, GMFV of £41,966.
As they say in France (Probably) - Baiser un Canard ! Are people actually buying these on finance ?

They probably are.
They wanted to give me a PCP quote on mine, telling me it would be worth looking at because they could give me a finance allowance. I let them waste their time and they came back with £1,500 contribution and a monthly figure that meant I would have been paying £400 a month interest!!
They tried to justify the APR (10.9% iirc) by saying it had gone up by broadly the same amount as the base rate as it used to be 5.9%.
All said with a straight face and they genuinely expected me to seriously consider taking the finance.

My Turbo owning client told Porsche where to go when they presented him with the finance figures for a new Turbo S. He was going to be paying more than £30K in interest over 3 years and up until now, Porsche have managed to get him in to a new car every 2 years for the past 10 to 12 years.
There are plenty of people wealthy enough to pay £1,500/£2,000 mth on a car but I am not sure there are enough to keep all the Porsche showrooms in the profit they have become accustomed to.

I imagine many of these people will have become suitability wealthy by being sufficiently money-savvy to avoid paying piss-take interest rates for things in the past. I expect the showrooms will be quieter, as you say.

I don’t necessarily think the showrooms will be quieter, customers will just find other more sensible ways to fund the cars.

It’s not just the interest rate, it’s the tiny GMFV.
In the 2 year PCP example, it’s not far off 50% of the purchase price. Either they think the arse is going to fall out of these things or they are taking the piss to drive up the total interest levied.
Whether £2k a month is affordable is moot, it’s the principle.

Dose of reality needed here. Yea 10.9% isn’t cheap but it’s a good deal given swap rates currently. It’s nice that people can write a cheque out for 100k but that’s not your typical Porsche buyer.

Normally when interest rates go up, prices have to come down to make the items affordable but with cars we seem to have increased prices and increased interest rates (although BMW were trying to sell me a new M3 or M4 at 4.9% yesterday). Somewhere in the chain of supply and demand something is going to change in the car market.

Somewhere in the chain of supply and demand something is going to change in the car market. Have you tried a new M3/M4 yet? Yes, I had a day driving them at Silverstone (and will drive the M4 again at Palmersport on 17th August). They are on a totally different level from the previous generation M3/M4 in terms of traction and grip even in 2WD form and they aren't slow either. I am not sure I could live with the carbon bucket seats for day to day use but due to the packs of extras, it means I couldn't spec one to my exact liking. The ride is very good too and the general fit and finish is reasonably high but it lacks the torque that my car has and needs a few more revs to feel quick in gear. To be honest, I really like the driving experience but the looks still don't excite me and the pricing is just crazy. A car, as close to my spec as I can get is about £100,000. A used version, no more than 6 months old and maybe not even had its first service is c£28/30K less than that. On PCP the GFV at 3 years old is under £40,000, so financially I just can't justify being that stupid. A Boxster GTS gets me much more excited but there is nowhere for the golf clubs!!

I still struggle with the looks, but less than I did when it was launched and it's on the (more sensible) list to replace the Golf. Buying new is madness due to that heavy first year depreciation, a 6 month old M3 with Ultimate pack is £75-76k and the M4 is even less. Spec is an issue though, as Full Merino is super rare on the non Ultimate Pack cars and the other packs are a bit hit and miss, so that's the one to go for but the seats concern me too for daily use. A Boxster GTS gets me much more excited too and I don't play Golf, but only 2 seats would be a bit restrictive.

...but the seats concern me too for daily use Yeah, as you get older and gravity has its effects a comedy lump in the middle of the seat base could lead to some unpleasantness

Getting in and out would soon become a chore and the top of the outside bolster is likely to be severely worn after a few years. The cars I drove at Silverstone had the normal seats and they were more than adequate for normal use.

We’re still waiting patiently for you to deliver a Forum Ferrari! I’m under a year from being totally mortgage free (until I have to do French taxes in the event of my mother’s passing - she carries on as ever though). I’ve looked at various spending options and alas impending old age points at investments. Seriously considering a mad one-year-only purchase but probably at 60, which isn’t far away.
