Despite the woeful sound, I love the way it looks. Those rear wheel arches look super. Wonder if this CS package will come to the M3 and not just the M4.

^ complete with "BO55" git plate.... and for sale with less than 4000 miles on the clock, I wonder why?

That appears more BRG than oxford green and the interiors a bit too brown for my liking and agreed it needs a Comp Pack.

The full leather upgrade makes such a difference to the interior.
However - I don't know what BMW have done with the exhaust system on the M3/M4, because they sound rubbish. It's just volume with zero tone, the M135/140i sounds so much nicer as standard.

As does the 440i.

The standard car does sound a bit rubbish from the outside, does anyone have experience of the sound from inside (which is much more important). The Competition pack comes with a sports exhaust, but I don't think I've heard one being used properly to know how much better it is.

I was a bit bored yesterday and found myself looking at M5s on Autotrader. E60s start from under £10k (you'd have to be brave) but more interesting was the F10 (?) at around £30k for sensible miles. I can see me revisiting these in a couple of years time, I'm not scared of turbochargers

I've always been under-convinced by the F10 version. Admittedly I've never driven one but my experience of the E60 version is that the transformational aspect of the car, character-wise, is the V10, which is just a fabulous piece of kit. Devoid of that, I'm not sure that you aren't left with a car which is technically excellent but perhaps not mad enough.

I think the Competiton pack is essential, 600hp and a sports exhaust will increase the level of 'madness'. I'd have to try one over a variety of roads first, because I suspect it also equals traction issues, which I'd hate.

Sounds like the F10 is a natural follow-on from the E39 really - a car that is refined, well equipped and very fast. It's funny to think that a car with 550BHP in its most basic form could be thought of as 'not mad'!!
The E39 still has the ability to make me laugh - if I put my foot down leaving a junction when I'm into 2nd I'm suddenly transported from 'here' to 'over there' as if there's been a time slip. I can only imagine what the F10 would be like.
Contrast that to what I've read (having never been in one) about the E60 where you have to work for it due to the relative lack of torque. I was also disappointed by the exhaust sound of the E60, we had one for sale at the garage when I worked there and I regularly heard it leaving for a post-maintenance test run at the hands of an unsympathetic mechanic-apeman. The sound was too 'thin' for a 5 litre.
Anyway if an F10 appears near me I'll go and have a look.

No, I'd be looking at something like a 4 or 5 year old one in a couple of years time.

Creative accounting. I once found a BMW 520i in the costs for "Road works" on a new house development. Apparently the MD's wife needed a new car!

I was not taken by the original 1 series, I thought it looked like someone had tried too hard to adopt the look of the rest of the range and not succeeded on any front. Now I find the refined 1-2 series much better resolved and a better bet when looking at the Porsche Boxster, especially when you take practical aspects as more than a token gesture. Not sure how the M2 and its Boxster equivalent compare.
You guys know more about moderns than I do, especially since I ditched my last up to date convenience, a grand Scenic 2.o diesel.

I was on the BMW configurator earlier speccing up an M3. Is it weird that a sunroof is a no cost option whereas lumbar support will cost you money? I'll have mine in Tanzanite Blue with the Sakhir Orange leather thanks

It's a no cost option because it replaces the carbon roof with a normal one. Tanzanite Blue is a superb colour

Looking on Autotrader there are 50-odd blue ones and at least 75% are that Yas Marina colour. Yuk.
I'd be happy to forego the carbon roof, I'm not a 'hand' and wouldn't notice the difference.

I don't believe that even a "hand" would notice the difference and I am sure there are far more opportunities to enjoy a bit of fresh air and sun through the roof than there are to find out that the carbon roof makes it precisely 0.15s faster round the "ring"
My sunroof has been open on the way to and from work almost every day now for 3 weeks. I really wouldn't want a car without one and certainly not one like a BMW MSport which has a compulsory black headlining.
Tanzanite is also my favourite colour and Yas Marina Blue looks OK in the shiny showroom but pretty 1970's Ford Escort on the road.

Yas Marina looks shit in whatever context it's viewed!

Following on from browsing M5s I thought it would make sense to look at RS6s as well.
Holy shit, they keep their value (relatively).
So much for M products being so highly thought of, the secondhand market clearly doesn't like them.

I had a wee foray into looking at used RS4 Avants but that ended fairly abruptly when I realised I was looking at 3 or 4 year old cars at a hefty bit more than I paid for mine when it was just 3 months old.
The tea leafs seem to like the fast Audis more than the fast BMW's as well. They probably make a better all weather get away car!

That's a consideration. The V10 engine RS6 looks very restrained compared with the current shape one. I should go back to looking at M cars and go on a driving course to increase my Queef rating After all everyone knows fast Audis are aloof and understeer, it says so in EVO.

I'd want one of these (but costing about 20% less than they want!). Taken from the BMW website of desirable used cars. However an M6 GC looks like much more car for the money!
how to upload multiple photos
Or I quite like this colour too (wife hates it!)

To my eye at least it's not really blue enough, if you know what I mean; not dark enough to be classic or bright enough to be memorable. Insipid is the word I'm looking for I think. I haven't seen one in the metal though, so it may be simply the picture not doing it justice.

I am in the process of taking over another practice to allow the current owner to retire over a couple of years and the deal I have might just allow me to consider a more expensive replacement car if it all goes well. It might be a year or so before I know properly how it's going though. The Tanzanite one would still get my vote.

I think this M2 is in the same colour but photographed in the sun!

When I filtered the M3/4s to blue on the Autotrader website I'd say 3/4 of them were Yas Marina. It used to always be Silverstone which is a very pale met blue and I really disliked that but now I'm not sure which is worse.
