Spotted in Knightsbridge on Sunday, not a clue if it's particularly special but nice to see: Certainly to me it is very special and sub-zero cool.

Hi, welcome on-board.
My first choice would always be a vintage Bentley Speed Six, although a 4.5 is plenty fast enough as well. The Vauxhall 30-98 is also well worth consideration, as is the Alvis 12/50. The Lagonda 2-litre is great to drive, as is any of the vintage/post vintage Riley range.
If you are looking for something more modern, consider a Morgan.

I think it was 3 years ago I stopped at Annandale Water (Johnstonebridge for the slightly older people who use the M74!) for a pit-stop, and the diesel then was £1.55 a litre! I made that mistake once too and only put in enough fuel to get me somewhere else! However last night my normal Shell station was £1.559 for VPower petrol and £1.589 for VPower diesel. I don't remember it ever being as high as that! Is fuel being priced to the third decimal place now?

Just an aside for our southern based members; it looks like there could be shortages of frozen turkeys and pigs in blankets this Xmas so you might want to start your panic buying early. 😀 Use a local independent butcher and you will also certainly be OK. Either that, or order your Goose/ Turkey from an independent producer such as Goodmans.

There are three filling stations near to my office in Coventry and they all had fuel and no queues today. Similarly, the Shell garage in Stratford-upon-Avon, plenty of fuel and no queue.

Thanks for posting, Stu. I can imagine this has caused a whole world of buggeration you could do without.
With reference to your last comment, I can imagine Ted Hastings and co. were all over this with vigour, right from the start.

Chris Harris has posted a link on Twitter If the aforementioned branch of Cuntz Sprayer (sorry, Speyer) were based in Wank, Germany, it would be even better Or in that well-known village in Austria.

Some good action shots there and plenty to see off the track, too. Some cars in the garage bays have some sort of metal frame attached to the front. Any idea what that is for? I assume it is part of their servicing kit.

Just buy a vintage Alvis and thrash it up Prescott several times, like I did a couple of weeks ago.

I was down to my last eight litres yesterday evening so called in at Stratford-upon-Avon for 72 litres of Shell's finest and had a choice of pumps. Herself tells me that the Mini is down to the last two bars on the gauge, but by now she might have to settle for our local place on the Fosse Way, which is 10p per litre more expensive than anywhere else.

I also saw the opposite end of the SUV scale in terms of good taste, in the shape of a Range Rover SV Autobiography. Brand new and on trade plates, it was two tone black over grey, with saddle tan leather. It was utterly delightful.

That does look good, colours and wood included. It being more of a head than heart purchase compared to the Gorilla, I think the longer term ownership report is the one we shall all want to read.

To my eyes much of the work of Frua is questionable and this does nothing to change my opinion.

I take the approach of completing my overtake a bit slower then normal, applying left indicator on full and moving left as slowly as possible taking a full passive aggressive approach 😀 That is exactly what I did to the knob in the 3 Series M somethingorother on the M40 yesterday.

Imppressive. Keeping to the limit makes a big difference to MPG. This was the Benz yesterday after my journey back from Lancaster. Much of the M6 is either a 60 MPH roadworks zone or camera controlled variable limit sections. Even when trying to make a bit of progress on the other sections and the M6 Toll, I was pleased with this. It was just over 48 MPG as I joined the M40.

Drivers around Preston. Every single time I drive on the section of M6 around Preston I see the most dangerous and knobbish driving of the whole of my journey and this morning was no different. Tailgating, lane weaving and undertaking, two or three cars clearly racing each other. Every. Single. Time. I drive around Preston. Yup. It was exactly the same coming back this afternoon.

I think they have all gone to Coventry. The traffic was ridiculous this afternoon when I left the office. Not helped by the tropical monsoon which fell as I joined the A46.

Tax property more, everyone’s been the beneficiary of unearned wealth over last 18 months. Grossly unfair, you have no control over the value of your property. Our house has gone up about 5-fold in value since we moved here, well over 20 years ago. Council tax has gone up almost 4-fold in that time too. My income has certainly not gone up as much, proportionately, over that time, and the house value is only relevant when it comes to move. To gain an extra bedroom is a huge financial outlay around where I live, maybe £100k or more, money I simply do not have and cannot afford. Conversely, to trade down to something smaller (by one bedroom) and have the "benefit" of difference between selling and buying prices, would yield very little after all house moving costs are taken into account. Agreed. Taxing people out of their homes just because of where they live would be grossly unfair.

This is government (of all colours) we are talking about. And eco-loons (whose daft ideas have become mainstream political thought). They won't make trains cheaper. They'll just make cars more expensive. Alas I fear you are probably spot on with that one. We'll end up back in the dark ages in terms of travel with long distance being the preserve of the rich and most of us plebs living a life where we rarely leave our village and visit the world through our virtual reality headsets. You could be right about the step back in time. I have already gone back to 1927 for my weekend car and have considered getting a horse. Seriously, the general mood among my various vintage and classic car clubs is that the best days of personal travel have gone. We just need to be thankful that we were were there at the time and enjoy it while we can.

A convoy of various Land Rovers and Range Rovers, all but one in swirly disguise. All had the same, small orange sticker in the windscreen. Mixed in and and following the convoy was a selection of Audi and Porsche SUVs, also with the orange sticker in the screen and looking very much part of the same outing. Comparing with the competition.

Most normal/average cars are boring – because they aren’t built to be enjoyable to look at, sit in or drive – they are designed to do a job at a price. A Tiguan is no more exciting or covetable than an ID4 (unless they do a secret V8 version I am not aware of) and the same can be said of much of the other fluff available. However, if you ignore range and charging for now, I’d much rather have silent and swishy EV propulsion than your ” common or garden ” 4 cylinder engine. I agree. My default position for a daily driver is wafty torque and an EV will do this better than a 1.6 VW four. Still clinging onto my 3.0 V6 while I can, though...
