That looks very smart and very grown up for a supermini.
The cruise control in various cars I have had has a dual sensitivity control. Tap the switch up or down lightly for 1 MPH increments, or push it all the way to the stop for 5 MPH increments. In the Benz there is a very convenient fuzzy logic built in which will set it to the nearest 10 or 05 increment if you first set cruise with a full press of the stalk.

It looks a bit drafty outside today. I have roped over one of the sheds which has a dodgy roof and loose things moved to shelter. One section of fence is looking like it might let go at any moment and I can see two birds hanging onto a violently swaying branch with a white-knuckled grip. Glad I'm not in the south west. Even worse there by all accounts.

Wasn't there a story last year that due to WLTP regs (possibly) manufacturers were going to go for bigger lower revving engines and ditch turbos? Of course they're all chasing electric so that probably won't happen, although perhaps the current energy cost drama might make some of them think twice. ...although Porsche are continuing with their development of alternative fuels, so new ICE technology would be of use to them.

Back in my Oxford estate agency days I was showing someone around a house and the neighbour was mowing his lawn completely bollock naked. It was Summer, though.

Five kids positive in Mini Eff's class in the last five days. Waiting for the axe to fall now 🙁 T4 has had a positive test - no symptoms. W2.1 has a positive test and either has some symptoms or just a bit of a cold. Myself and T5: nothing. We live in the same house. It’s now just a bit of an illness. Exactly this. Covid is now just another Winter cold / man flu and really need to get on with our lives. In a 'normal' year around 200 to 300 people die each day from the flu. I have read that conventional flu is almost non-existent this year.

T4 tested positive. T5, W2.1 and myself all negatived a PCR so T4 is banished to her room. She looked puzzled when I handed her a zinc coated pail and said slopping out was 8am and 8pm. She'll probably become a habitual criminal who treats incarceration as an occupational hazard.. Then she presumably will accept imprisonment in the same casual manner.

We spent New Year on the surprisingly sunny North Norfolk coast. The middle and far distant view out to sea from Cley and Blakeney is now dominated by a forest of wind turbines. Presumably they continue to spin at night when we can't see them. They are controversial. There's a forest of them off the Suffolk coast near my mother and now they want to build a vast onshore substation for them practically next door. Needless to say it's very unpopular locally. sases.org.uk/Yes, they certainly change the view and any associated land-based infrastructure must be difficult to hide. It is difficult to know how we can continue to expand renewable energy generation while not creating harm to our countryside or the quality of life for those who live in the midst of the development. A quick look at your link suggests there is an uncoordinated free for all on the east coast among energy suppliers. Definitely a need for a proper consultation with local residents.

California is not the UK and surely the advantage of EVs is that you can take advantage of surplus renewable energy at night, that would otherwise be wasted, to charge them? A good review. It certainly sounds like a car to avoid from an ergonomics point of view, but so many are going that way that I can see me hanging onto our current cars for a long time yet. The stalk in my Benz is much better sorted and operates in much the same way as on my old W211 and the central rotary controller and buttons 'iDrive' thingy is intuitive to use. I don't know what the arrangement is in the W213.

Having just spent two hours driving in disgusting wet conditions, with standing water everywhere I can safely say that the CC2s are the best tyres for these conditions I have ever experienced.
Whatever you are doing now, stop it for a few moments and order a set of CC2s. You will be able to drive as confidently in deeply crap weather as when the sun is shining.

Tina has tested negative on lateral flow every day including today - but her PCR from yesterday just came back positive. One of the twins is clear - bet she had it first and is out the other side 🤣 Tina has barely any symptoms mind so maybe there is some merit in lateral flows showing if you’re infectious. Maybe . Anyway we can have a proper German Christmas now - I’ve emerged from my hibernation and stopped wearing a mask about the house ! What a pile of pants! From what I hear you are by no means unique, though. At least you can all join in and be 'positive' together now.

My work laptop is switched off and put away until next year, there is a goose in the fridge and nearly all the presents are wrapped. Time to sit back and chill for a while.
Our New Year plans are going to have to change since Herself's sister's family have just tested positive for the lurgy, but we have some good alternatives to consider. Christmas day will be the four of us here, then Boxing Day a big gathering at my brother's farm, with yet more food, drink and possibly a clay shoot.
Whatever you are doing for Christmas, my hope is that it is a good one and here's to a positive and uplifting New Year.

The CC2s were fitted to the Benz yesterday. Wellying from standstill into a gap in a roundabout was not met with the fishtailing wheelspin which was the signature of the previous crappy Triangle rears. Looking good so far.

A big cheer from me for the Shropshire result and I am a lifelong Tory voter. I will not be voting Tory again until Boris and his slimy gang are well away from the big offices in Whitehall.
Shropshire is a rural constituency and I understand a lot of the protest came from those who are against this government's attitude towards British agriculture. Throwing farming under the bus to buy a crappy Australian trade deal is not the way to feed our nation in a sustainable way. All the farming folks on Twitter were cheering the result for this very reason. There is widespread disquiet from country folk with the Conservatives at the moment and I can see the Lib Dems gaining more seats if nothing else changes.

For how long do you think you will continue this way ? At what point do you go back to normal ? You need to explain the importance of the mask because I still haven’t found anyone who can provide a convincing answer as to how they make the slightest difference. With or without a mask, the entire contents of my lungs will be forced into the air - the cotton mask does absolutely jack shit, it doesn’t filter my breath and capture the nasties and it doesn’t neutralise them in any way. Non hospital-grade madks are not just next to useless, they also cut off a number of the population from the rest of you. I am as deaf as a post, but usually manage to get by just so long as there isn't too much background noise. What I didn’t realise is how much the past 55 years of struggling with one functioning ear has taught me to lip read. Put a mask on someone and it is like the volume has been turned down from 7 to 1.

Another keyless fan here as well. The Mini has the little button on the door handle, while I only have to touch the handle on the Benz. I do have to hide the key away when cleaning the car, or I get constant locking and unlocking and random boot openings.

The Benz is booked in next week with Jackson's for a nice new set of CrossClimate 2's. They had difficulty getting them and it seems that supply is a problem at the moment, but were able to pull some strings with their Michelin rep. Are you going to run them all year round? I don't know. I shall see how I get on with them when it gets warmer and make a decision then.
