Yep. We had a Mini Clubman estate with brown vinyl and many a thigh was burned on those seats. The Monza that followed, with green velour, was a huge step up in luxury and comfort.

It was only ever a concept, none were made, which is a shame.

The MX5 Coupe was a great looking thing, I have no idea why they never officially imported it. You can add the Honda S2200 Coupe on to that list as well. Huh? Was there one? Yep

I never realised it made production and only ever thought it was a concept. Rare - and 30k! To me the '5 needs to be a roadster. Do what you like with turbos, transplanted V6s or V8s, whatever, but it is a roadster.
For a long time, I have wanted to make a proper tin-top MX5. I think they missed a trick not having a coupe variant over here.

They're atcually not that bad up close, not compared to the other vast monstrosties available, but I get what you mean. Say Lamborghini to me and I immediately think Countach or Diablo: batshit mental wedges with pop-up headlights, scissor doors and completely useless interiors made of old Milk Tray liners, not a parts-bin VW special with angular hips.
They almost have the interior in the old skool vein - that centre console is an abomination.

Having just changed my CD player, I can wholeheartedly recommend getting better equipment as a great way of increasing the pleasure you get from music. It's wonderful playing stuff that you've known and loved for decades and hearing things anew.
Guess what I found the other day? The copy of Doolittle you burned for me back in the early days of the Autocar forum! Had a good groove along to it on the way home from work, biit of air bass to Here Comes Your Man.

Personally, I wouldn't be steered towards a posh-roader in lieu of an estate, but that's just me. I don't need a massive estate car - something around the size of what I currently have is fine - so an XF would be too big and the E/F Pace too tall.
Not that I'm in the market for anything, but should the Euromillions come my way, a brand new estate car will be on the cards and it will probably have to be a 3 Series, A4, C Class or Superb. An XF would be a second hand choice (because the old model is better looking) and only then because nothing a bit smaller exists by Jaaaaaag.

So why do they have the E Pace when the F Pace already exists? Same scenario.

I'm sure Pete will (rightly) be shaking his head as armchair experts like me pontificating about this but I still don't know why they never did an XE estate. Even a concept to test the water, stick the V8 in that and you've got a cult hero.
This.
A few years down the line, I'll be very interested in an XE estate.

Hey Franki, have you watched any of the Chris Cornell tribute concert on Youtube? Not half bad, but a lot of it shows just how godlike a voice Cornell had. Some of the choices of vocalists were painful to say the least (I'm looking at you, Perry Farrell. What on earth possessed you to attempt Cochise?), whereas I was blown away by Miley Cyrus and have to admit a grudging nod to that balloon head from Maroon 5.

^ Doesn't that depend on the insurance co? Some state that as a condition of insurance you will ensure that the car is maintained properly with legal tyres, that you MoT it when required and keep it taxed. No doubt they would try to use lack of tax as an excuse not to pay out in event of an incident, but this may be deemed to be an "unrealistic" clause if it goes to court
I've never had that stipulation on any of my insurances, that I have noticed. You can't tax a car without valid insurance anyway, or an MOT. If the insurance company put that stipulation in place, then if you SORNed your car, it would effectively be uninsured.
I remember my first proper car, the Belmont, being insured and sat on my Mum's drive for about 2 months without any tax or MOT whilst I was away at uni and scrounging bits to get it through the MOT.

^ Just had an unpleasant thought.... the vehicle tax now ceases with change of ownership so DVLA may now think your friend's car is untaxed, automatically voiding the insurance too IIRC. Any ANPR cameras that it passes may invoke a police chase with the car ending up being impounded as untaxed. Your friend needs to act PDQ Not having tax doesn't void insurance.

Made worse by the fact that the V5C does not prove ownership of, only responsibility for, the car.

Dodgy.
Still registered as a 1.5 diesel and untaxed. That kind of corner cutting boils my piss - why go to all the trouble of all the engineering just to not register it correctly?
If it isn't registered properly, do you think it's insured properly too?
I love stuff like this, but a lot of cars like this are let down by dodgy corner cutters.

Demon all the way. I've started watching a lot of drag racing recently and that puppy is built to do just that. It even uses the AC system to cool the air charge after the supercharger/intercooler for more power - that's dedication. It also helps that it looks and sounds the bollocks too. It won't belong until they're pumping out over 1000 bhp with ease.

I'd like to get a 3 Series and put it on our corner weights and see whether the 50/50 claim is anywhere near true. There will likely be a very specific set of circumstances needed to reach the revered 50/50, possibly none of which will ever be achievable once the car is in motion and containing fluids.
None of us here are driving gods and would not be able to deduce where the weight was distributed in our cars. It only matters in racing cars, in the hands of racing drivers. For road cars, it is merely a selling point. If you can feel the perfect weight distribution in a road car, you're either a liar or a full-on racing driver. Or a journo, which is likely to be either or both.
