Are you doing a sideline in drives? PS ever wish you kept the disco? For what I sold the Disco for, in hindsight, I should have kept it for situations such as these. However, Toyota should do the job and not cost me anything.

I hate to admit it, amd I will never admit it to Fevs (guy I both got it from) that I actually quite like the Toyota.
I’ve polished the chrome front bumper and it is gleaming. The majority of the rust stains are gone. I’ll do the paint when I get a chance. It needs a coolant flush. Fevs told me he drained the coolant for the winter and refilled it. Sadly he put standard glycol in it which has reacted with the pink stuff Toyota use so it needs a flush. Will do that soon.
It bloody goes well. Overtook a line of traffic and the speedo went up to 80 or so. Straight through pipe is marginally antisocial and right up my street.

Looks OK and a fair amount of motor for the money. Should be a decent result for a chuck of the dice.

Worth keeping for doing the farm work and saving the Defender for your weekend off roading.

As I have a fair bit of work to do on the new house, with loads of garden and DIY crud to shift, I'm sorely tempted to buy an old pick up or a van. Not sure if that would be a temporary Volvo replacement or not yet or whether to just buy a right old knacker of a van. Or get a towbar and a trailer.

Pickups aren’t allowed at the tip. Some you need a permit and some are disallowed full stop. Same with vans. If you do get a pickup, avoid old L200s because they are garbage.

The reason I need a tow vehicle. It doesn’t feel quite as stable as the Defender, but it does seem like it has more power.

Don't get a Navara either - chassis snapping problems on these.

It’s back! I’m waiting to hear from the garage when they hear from Ashcroft as to what had failed. Best part of £500 bill. £200 was the rebuild and the rest carriage and labour. Ive swapped the body panels over, insulated them and boarded it out with ply and carpet. It is a much nicer car to drive. Quieter and wil fewer rattles. Should be considerably warmer too. I’ve swapped the front door seals and the alpine window seals which were perished. I will hang onto the Toyota for the time being - certainly until the winter is over then possibly move it on.

We needed some shavings today. The trailer has three round bales of hay on it and I can only get 10 bales of shavings in the Land Rover. The Hilux managed 19 bales in the bed and one on the back seat. There was much amusement at Mole with people saying I would never manage it. 🤔😃

I have a power steering issue it seems. I lost it altogether at low speeds last night and it is chattering away and making some odd noises today. New pump ordered. It could have waited until it was warm and dry!😪

I can’t help (perhaps unkindly) think that this question doesn’t need to be asked.

Out of interest, what brand of shavings do you use?

That’s what those are, but they must have had a problem with their printer as the bags are unbranded. I reckon you could get at least 30 in a Hi-cap.

My brother turned up the other day with a 'new' Landrover - he's never modified or shown any interest in any modified car, yet this one has giant black wheels with suitable size arch extensions, a matt grey wrap, a TD5 engine (it's a 2002 model) and climbing in was a struggle - body hugging black leather Corbeau bucket seats and the dash covered to match! in the rear there is a sliding drawer which was foam lined in order to carry Chamagne and champagne glasses!! - now modified to carry power tools - he's soon to become a mobile marine mechanic.

The steering has behaved today - most odd. I wonder if there was an airlock somehow.

Steering still behaving.
The smallest of things, but I have just installed central locking to the two front doors. The alarm I installed a while ago has all the facility and I had left the redundant wires in place. Took about 3 hours, but the front doors now lock and unlock off the remote.
The handbrake needs an overhaul and the new shoes and cable arrived for that today, but I ran out of time.

Handbrake overhauled today.
The old cable was fucked, which explains why it kept sticking on.

I ended up changing the PAS pump for a genuine ZF pump a couple of weeks which has solved the issue. The old one felt as notchy as hell when turned by hand.
The high pressure hose hose is only done up to 20Nm. Today it came loose and deposited the contents of the reservoir all over the yard. I’ve done it up FT - hopefully that will be the end of the matter. It could have been worse, it could have been in the middle of nowhere.

Haynes have pretty much been after the weird stuff for a long while like the manual for the Tiger tank.
