As it happens, we got back very late last night and it was extremely wet and windy, so I didn't bother with the car cover, chancing my arm that the foxes would also think it too foul a night for prowling. Good thing too as (a) it would seem they did (and (b) I doubt it would still have been on this morning (a fox chewed the retaining straps off a while back).

There was a photo shoot this morning with the Forestry Commission and other access groups. I took the scenic route back. The drifts on the road were deep in places and required some momentum!

You're one of the few people I've known with a Defender that actually NEEDS a Defender I forgot to take a photo of where I got stuck. The snowdrift was the height of the wheels. Once I backed out and used some momentum, it ploughed straight through. The photo shoot hoot was a collaboration between the Forestry Commission, GLASS, TRF, and groups representing horse riders and cyclists. The police were there to give a message that illegal activity won’t be tolerated. We are all trying to work together to enjoy the rights of way in a responsible manner.

I got up this morning and the snow was falling heavily - our non gritted cul de sac was as slippy as usual. On the mile up to the main road the snow was beginning to lie, as it was on the main road but only a few miles down the road at the office there is no new snow at all. However heavy snow is forecast all day and I am very grateful for my 4WD although for the last bit or road down to the house, the snow is about as deep as the car can cope with, without bottoming!

And, true to form, we've had one 5-minute sleet shower instead! A bit of a joke especially when you saw everyone heading home early or mid afternoon to avoid the blizzard that didn't happen. We got sent home early once it really started. I usually take about 20-25 minutes to get home; yesterday, an hour and a half. Most of that was spent waiting on the eejits getting up (or not) a couple of the hills I need to use and/or keeping out of the way of the other eejits trying to get down them! One thing I noticed was, the majority of private hacks I saw (a) had very low treads on their front tyres and (b) generally have less idea of how to drive in snow/ice than your average 2-year old. Quelle surprise, I know.

A bit snowy again this morning. I have also seen countless private hire skid to a halt or sit there spinning their bald front tyres.

Fuel prices are reasonable up there! It's 120 and 123.9. It's funny how the neon tubes must flicker on and off largely unseen to the human eye.

I didn’t think the benefits of oil wealth would be so generously redistributed! They’re LEDs and it’s not that they flicker but they each turn on and off in a loop that gives the illusion of illuminating a whole number when in fact only a couple of LEDs are on at any one time.

Got home last night at 10.30 and this is what the last 300/400 yds down to the house is like even with 6.5 degrees - wasn't much better this morning! That's the problem with a road that gets no direct light on it at this time of year.

Just had a big downpour followed by a hailstorm withh stones the size of peas (garden not marrowfat!). Out walking the dog now and am glad we never went out half an hour earlier. I cycled in that on Thursday (I don't think you are a million miles away from me). Sunny all morning, I went for a swift lunchtime ride and had a grey cloud of initially rain, then hail, sit over me for most of the ride. All around, not far away, was blue sky. When I got back the sun came out and stayed out. I'm beginning to feel fated, as this has happened (minus the hail) so many time in the last year it is not funny!!!

That's art tho innit?!
Perishing in the City. Just walked back to the office from a fairly long and boozy lunch and even my copious alcohol intake wasn't enough to render me insensible to the cold.

A few bricks and that would be fine, there is even a drainage effect for any water that gets in.

More fluffy white stuff and cold weather for the coming week according auntie beeb. Looking at some of those european zones on the map, there were a lot of different shades of blue.

We are knackered this week apparently. Tomorrow will be spent shopping for food that can be cooked on a camping stove. Highly likely that we will be cut off with no electricity. Fun times.
