Thanks very much, a little consumer test is in order I think. I will let you know how it goes. Under the rear seat would do I think, there is a vent for the the heat exchanger from the engine.

That looks like snowman building and staying at home weather. Don't know how you deal with the boys going home though! I think the best plan is to take them back tomorrow, I don’t fancy a 6-7 hour return journey which is what Google maps is suggesting at the moment. Just been out and the winter tyres are phenomenal. I decided on eco pro mode to soften the throttle and just drove straight up the hill, didn’t get any slip or TC at all! It’s compacted snow at the top where people have been struggling, but that wasn’t an issue either. Same coming back down the hill, it just stopped, no ABS or slip at all. I’ve caused quite the stir amongst the neighbours..... I was warned not to go out by a guy in an A6 Allroad when I was clearing the car off, he’d turned back as he’d been struggling. Lots of idiots out there, which is the biggest problem. SUVs going too quickly, people using way to much throttle and adding more when they’re stuck. A 3 Series X Drive couldn’t stop at a T Junction and came sliding out towards me. I avoided him, didn’t get any sort of apology, then he was spinning up the wheels (take a little while for the fronts to kick in) and following me too closely. Despite te all that, I really enjoyed it and am tempted to take the Boxster out for some fun, but I’m concerned about the idiots so probably won’t. I got up really early on Sunday morning to take both the V60 and the Captur out for a run in the snow. There was around 8cm by that point and we had 15 or so by the afternoon. The Captur, on the Crossclimates was excellent. For some reason only Renault know, you can't disable the TC without pulling the fuse so no idea what a constant pain that would have been on summer tyres. Luckily traction was simply not an issue. I passed several cars that just couldn't proceed on even slight hills and a decent hill start was done with only a little slip. Braking wasn't as good as I had hoped but that could partly be down to the typically French on/off brakes. Mrs R used it for work all day, visiting clients and even picked up a colleague who git stuck and did her calls too. By the end of the day she was a winter tyre convert. The V60, with AWD and winters on, was simply fantastic. Braking was totally without issue on the BF Goodrich fronts (well impressed with them). The Vredestein rears are rather less grippy but that simply translated into the car becoming a bit of sideways monster under bootfuls of throttle, which made it absolutely hilarious fun. 4 wheel drifts outof junctions. Hooligan! I want more snow. Much more!

We had a lethal combination of rain falling on frozen ground yesterday afternoon.
The office carpark and all the pavements were sheet ice and we had to give a bit of first aid to an older man who lives in the flats behind us when his feet just went from beneath him. I shuffled off across the road to see if they had any rock salt left but there was none so I bought 4 tubs of table salt and spread that about before driving to Edinburgh.
One of the staff came in this morning with sprained wrist and very sore buttocks having taken two falls on the pavements when picking her kids up from school.
Thankfully it is now milder and we are back to cold, damp and grey but not freezing.

Like winter tyres, many people don't seem to grasp the concept of shoes suitable for the conditions. I've seen plenty sliding about in trainers. Our estate roads have become very shiny and smooth ice, which only studded tyres would stand any chance of coping with. It's just about OK if you drive extremely carefully at idling engine speeds but I saw one numpty in a Civic Tourer yesterday and knew whilst he was 25 yards from the bend he was never going to make it. He didn't and nearly ended up in the front of a house befire setting off up the road in a flood of revs and wheelspin, like a nob.

Regular ones don't work, it's true; the one I have in my garage freezes up from about 4C down. I asked about this at the old place, and TreVoR linked to a couple of machines that don't freeze. Sadly, I can't find them right now .. .. .. You need a dessicant dehumidifier as opposed to a refrigerator version.
There was one in the back of the latest Classic & Sportscar but it's a plug-in one and I'm sure around £250.
Still, it's probably worth splashing that much if you have £000s worth of car in there.

How often do you have to empty the tank?

Definitely. Not just the car, two quite valuable bikes and all sorts of stuff stored in the loft above. The TVR chassis is in great condition and I want to keep it that way. I have a Meaco DD8L desiccant dehumidifier in the garage. It works well in all temperatures.

I have mine draining outside to the nearest downpipe. I have it on a timer for 2 hours in the morning and the same in the evening.

I think I'd either have to go and empty the tank or alternatively have it draining onto the grass at the side of the drive as the only nearby drain is actually about 6 inches above the floor level of the garage.

I don't have a suitable drain nearby, so it drains into a bucket. Depending on weather the bucket needs emptying between two days (rarely) and one week. It is on standby constantly, but tests the air every 30 minutes and only runs when required.

I've made a mental note to fit my winter tyres earlier next year. I had to fit them on Saturday afternoon as I needed to use the Jag to go out. Mrs PG was using the the Shogun. Miraculously, the Jag made it up the slight slope into our car port to have the tyre change.
The Jag was fine on its winters. As said above, having winters on a "normal" car gives one an enormous element of surprise. My XK with winters on coped admirably with a snowy office car park a few years ago, whereas sumer shod SUV's just got stuck. Highly amusing.

We are having more rain on frozen ground turning it into a lethal skating rink. Last night on the way home people were walking on the road because the pavements were impassable and this morning is the same. Treated roads appear OK but pavements are deadly.

It was like that here yesterday. Everything thawed, bit of rain and the salt was washed away then everything froze solid when the sun went down. The pavements were lethal but even on the road you could feel the car wasn't quite doing what you wanted.

Herself was encountering big problems o her way back from the stables this morning, with virtually no-one seemingly able to drive to the (very) slippery conditions on the hill near the Craigmarloch Tesco (in Cumbernauld).
In contrast, the hill to the stables which is easily twice as steep, was fine. Being part of Dullatur (the poshest/richest bit in our area), I suspect the gritters were out early doors, possibly twice! To be fair, that particular hill has been a well-known problem area for accidents in the past.

Dropped car off for its investigations this morning, and the contrast between driving mine out and returning driving Mrs 12th's A3 was interesting. They wear the same tyres (albeit hers are 30mm less wide, but the difference in feeling planted and secure is massive. I'm still amazed at what little allowance people make for highly unpredictable conditions and grip levels.

Finding it a bit tough here - would have had to scrape the middle 12" of the windscreen if I'd needed to go anywhere at 8am - fortunately by 8.30 all was OK!
