Snow!

I've just spoken to a client who is snowed in - the local roads have 8 to 10 foot drifts and his Golf R is buried in his driveway and he can only see the top of the VW sign on the boot! He reckons it will be Monday before the main roads are opened again and well in to next week before he can get out - and my wife wants to move to the country! One of the folk I work with has been trapped in Campsie (Lennoxtown) since Tuesday, as the main roads to Glasgow via Kirkintilloch and Torrance have huge drifts right across them. My car hasn't moved since I parked it up on Monday afternoon, partly as the snow on the road was too high for the front to get over! I've seen a few cars going up and down the street today that weren't Landies or Shoguns so it seems to be getting a bit better. Or, less bad - which may be more accurate!

The road into the village where I work has around 8 feet of snow on it. There's a speed camera on that road and apparently it's no longer visible! WTF, and after you said you had no snow only about 36 hours ago?? We've had more snow this afternoon which is disappointing as I got to work this morning with no bother, fastest journey there I've done in nearly 5 years and I wasn't rushing.... just so little traffic about (OK so third lane of M3 was closed due to snow from just south of the Hook interchange). We were sent home at 12:30 which is probably just as well as freezing rain had jut started to fall - this turned to snow by the time I reached the M3 at Basingstoke, and continued until I Got home and beyond. Younger daughter is home for the week-end as I am taking her A1 to the garage tomorrow (I hope, weather permitting) for its MoT an service, and she was shocked at how bad the snow is here compared to Harrow and on the M25, M3

The kind of person who often drive pick ups. What a fool.
Not had a huge amount here but tgat is probably more down to the fact that it was powdery snow that was blown all over the place and only really lay with a lot of depth in drifts across roads and in corners wherever it was funelled by the wind. It was snowing hard last night, though and there was a decent covering on the road, so we decided to head out for a meal. Quiet roads, quiet in town. The V60 was excellent in the snow. Very satisfying at some traffic lights, on an uphill facing slope, taking the right hand hand lane and leaving a young bloke in a Leon sat slinning his wheels as I sailed off up the hill. Like a slow mo TLGP.

It’s snowing again here after a slight thaw. At least the roads are open, but they are mostly single track.

As you might imagine, most of the owners/riders at Herself's livery yard are female, and at least half a dozen of them have Disco 3 or 4's. The roads are passable via single track, but Herself's TD5 is the only LR product you'll find in the car park! Everyone else is parking up well over half a mile away because, without exception, they say "I can't reverse it for that long" !!!

We had a thaw yesterday afternoon, but the drifts and deeper places are all still there. Then some areas of slush re-froze last night - which are now super treacherous.

Farmer friend of mine had a nasty accident in the snow the other night while tending to some sheep. Head on collision on a single track road in white out conditions. Timing couldn’t be worse as it is lambing time. I put the Toyota to use this morning to get all of his gear out and back to the farm. The snow now sliding off the garage roof took the guttering with it and blocked the path with a pile six feet high and about the same square. Had to shift that to get to the drive!

I had that happen in 2010 with the added 'bonus' of the M5 being underneath the descending snow/gutter.
Looking at all the photos above we've had the same as Grampa, despite being 400 miles further north! The real problem has been drifts on the main roads.

Here, everything began to warm on Sat and traffic was pretty much back to normal by lunchtime, by today you would never even know we had any snow at all.

Same here - up at 6am Saturday, out of house by 7:30am to take daughter's A1 for its service ant MoT. Had to defrost the car and got up the hill just round the corner from our house with no real bother having swept most of the snow off the road on Friday afternoon. By the time I got home around 1:30pm there were almost no signs of any snow at all - not on the roads, gardens or houses

Hmmm it's been thawing here since yesterday but there are still big piles of snow around and some sections of road are still only 1 1/2 cars wide due to the drifts.
In addition, while it's been raining outside my work all day I'm by the waterfront in Dundee and Mrs Tim, whose work is up the hill, also in Dundee, has seen snow all morning.

We went up to Alnwick and Low Newton yesterday and some of the snow alongside the road was 8-10 foot high but the thaw had already set in and the roads themselves were clear. Pretty much all gone now with only a sorry looking snowman left in the back garden.
Golf course is closed but went and played 10 holes at Scottsdale, Arizona on the simulator. First time back since my op 6 weeks ago and all feels great, hitting the ball decent distances. It's a bit of a strange feeling when you've just spent a couple of hours in bright sunshine, with green fairways and blue skies, and then you walk outside to a cold and grey day.

I dug the entire shared drive out by hand today. The snow had turned to the slushy stuff that almost defeated both the Land Rover and Toyota. I am buggered!

The slush was sat on about 4 inches of packed ice, hence the traction issue. It won’t thaw that quickly up here.
