Round our way, the people using the roads at the moment seem to fall into two distinct camps. Those that are driving sensibly and carefully - as in fact with more walkers and cyclists about, there are probably more hazards than usual - and those who think that less traffic means that the road system is either one big racetrack or so safe they can switch off completely. The second group need shooting. This morning, as we took our sick cat to the vet, we turned onto an empty main road, whereupon a Ford Focus came from nowhere to being all over my rear bumper. Christ knows what speed he was doing. But as he overtook me he felt that I deserved the finger and a good mouthful. Cunt.

Some knob end in a new C Class yesterday who appeared behind me at a decent speed and then proceeded to try to get in the boot despite the roads being so quiet and travelling down several long straights where he could've overtaken me 20 times as I was only doing 60. If I thought I had the virus I would coughed out of the window at him, he was close enough to catch it.

Now the roads are much emptier one hears a lot of cars and bikes being ranted in places they shouldn't be. I heard and caught a glimpse of a Abarth 500 the other day that had an exhaust that could wake the dead fitted. Loud as fuck and pops and bangs at every shift. Didn't have the performance to go with it, though. A properly fast car would have been twice as far away with half the aural dramatics.

There are a fair few areseholes about this week. A noticeable increase on the last few weeks. Rather pleasingly I spotted one whilst at work a couple of days ago, in a 120d, accelerating and slowing repeatedly in the 30 limit, the rear end swaying around each time he accelerated. I found out why when I stopped him. Both rear tyres had the ply showing. Turns out he was on a foreign licence (but lived here a year) and he thought because the car had insurance showing on the MIB it was ok. Well, not for you it isn't, because you're not named on the policy. Had to go through an interpreter on the phone to write the ticket and seize the car, making it a painful process but language difficulties aside I think he was a bit thick. Still, seeing his shitty 1 Series towed away was nicely satisfying.

I think the correct saying is, "A good pinch" although I might be a few years out of date. Nicely done, another muppet promoted to riding the bus. Hopefully.

Turd in a Mondeo, yesterday. I'd seen him edging out of what is clearly not the easiest driveway to get out of, in the next village, so I was already prepared. He seemed to look but then pulled out anyway. No disaster, I'd seen it and its a 30 limit and I was only doing about 26 or 27 anyway. But, having pulled out he then failed to make any progress whatsoever and when given a flash of the headlights, chose to straddle the white line slightly and come to an abrupt stop in a distinct "fuck you" moment. Then, as I drove round him, he set off again. Then he went fucking potty. Idiot.

Quite why so many people are so unwilling to ever apologise or even admit to themselves that they might sometimes be in the wrong is beyond me. I'm sure it's low self-esteem - warranted if it's the case here.

Prick in a blacked out 69 plate RR Sport who passed me on a 40mph dual carriageway doing at least 60 and then weaved his way under and overtaking other cars in front. A mile or so later where the dual carriageway is 30mph I caught him stopped in the inside lane at a set of traffic lights which are notorious for only letting a few cars through on green for the direction I was travelling. I decided just to pull in behind instead of alongside him, to prevent to possibility of giving him the idea i wanted some kind of race from the lights. The lights changed to green and he crawled forward at less than walking speed and then very slowly, without indicating, turned left. I managed to pull round him just as the lights were turning back to red. I'd love to know what goes on in some people's heads: prick one moment and motability scooter the next.

^ Maybe its because many haven't driven for 7 weeks and are keen to get an early start on Wednesday's mild relaxation of the rules...... but their driving skills are a little rusty

I've certainly enjoyed the traffic free roads. My communte takes 20 minutes currently. In a morning it can take double that, normally. I'm noticing that a fair few drivers are totally ignoring 30 limits, perhaps because they are not slowed by other cars.

On my supermarket trip this afternoon, complete with an additional scenic detour, there was noticeably more traffic about than of recent weeks.

The lockdown madness must be getting to some people. A woman in a white Seat Ibiza I followed on the 2 way 30mph stretch of road who never got above 25mph, was so slow away from lights and did a bit of an emergency stop about 50 yards before any lights and then crawled so slowly towards them. We came to the 40 mph dual carriageway and she went straight to the outside lane. I positioned myself on the inside on the basis that the first set of lights is normally at red but at the lights she did her braking thing and I was past because the lights were green!!! After that she stuck to the outside for about 3 miles and a constant stream of cars passed her up the inside.
Just as I was taking a seat at my desk I heard the unmistakable sound of someone driving on a flat tyre. I looked out and it was a Nissan XTrail passing by at normal speed. about 15 minutes later I heard the same noise and it was the same Nissan heading the other direction at normal speed. He/she is going to have nothing left to salvage with that tyre and is probably going to need a new wheel too!

Darwin award nominee driving around the village on a quad bike, no helmet, driving like a total cuntbunter. Quads aren't that fast, and his overtake of three cars in a 40 with a side junction approaching (slight bend, over gentle crest) had all the makings of an accident.

Roads definitely much busier today. It does seem that the cunt per x number of vehicles ratio is high at the moment.

The suicidal motorbikists are out in full force. A-road just outside the village has a 50 limit and there are bikes going up and down there that are being rung out through the gears. They must easily be doing 130 mph+. Two fatal motorcycle RTCs in as many days in my force area over the last weekend.

Increase in the number of people who seem to think it's OK to stop to take calls or run errands, leaving their cars in unsafe places - brows of hills, on bends etc.

If they have lost their jobs, work in hospitality or for an airline/travel company etc and can see no hope of getting fulltime paid employment in the foreseeable future, they may have decided to take extra risk on the basis that if their ride goes horribly wrong, it solves all their problems ? I don't think that MPs etc have any idea how much the steps they have taken to "control" has affected the mental health of (tens of) thousands of others

I reckon there'll be a spike as a lot of people will have been away from driving for so long they'll have forgotten how to drive and they'll crash. Plus mobile phone use was already widespread (and distracting no doubt) and the increased use of video calling will just mean a lot of smartphone users will probably be making/taking videocalls while driving and that'll increase the number of crashes too. I hope I'm proved wrong but in that but I don't have high hopes.

Its NSL but even when doing 60mph they'd shoot past you, even with oncoming traffic. There was one mobile camera van on the A29 north of the village but it was set in such a way that it would only see the front of any bikers coming past it thus only targeting car drivers who are not really the problem!

I didn't know that. Does it also mean the if you're travelling towards it thinking that you only need to slow down once you're the other side of it you're in for a nasty surprise?!
