I’ve had a quick look, but don’t think there is a topic about this on here. Anyway, small but satisfying job done this morning. I wasn’t happy with the headlights - I don’t drive much in the dark, but the light was very yellow and poor. It is a minor pain to do - front wheels have to come off and panels held on with sikaflex/tiger seal in the wheel arch removed to gain access. I was glad that I had a look as the TVR specialist who did all the chassis work and replaced my headlights when the car was done a few years ago put 80/100W off road bulbs in. This has resulted in a slightly melted H4 connector. As stated, I don’t drive in the dark a lot in this car, which is just as well. 😡 I’ve replaced the dangerous and illegal bulbs with Phillips Extreme Race +150. I have Osram Nightbreakers in the Defender, and these are very similar looking but supposedly more powerful. Before After. It’s difficult to tell from photos, but there is a marked difference in light when viewed by eye.

Still looking great Mark. No surprise to find another fuck up hidden by the TVR "specialist"!

Haven’t driven this much recently, but when I have, I have the rear end bottoming out and it feels bouncy. It looked like it was sat on its arse too. The springs and shocks are only five years old so I fitted some adjustable spring seats from TVR Parts (now owned by Les Edgar) so I could raise the ride height a bit. I haven’t set it up properly yet as I need a C-spanner but it feels much improved and confidence inspiring. Much cheaper than a set of new springs and shocks too!

Good stuff - always worth doing to a car with normal lights! The 156's I had were particularly awful on standard bulbs, with small reflectors and the lights set very low (probably both issues for you too!).

Fuck me, I really hate cars sometimes. The TVR is booked into the garage for a 12k mile service and MOT on Monday. It can say hello to the Land Rover while it is there. I moved it out of the garage to tidy up and when I went to put it back in, it refused to start. It was turning over quite happily and it almost started a couple of times, but ultimately it didn't.
The smell of fuel was very strong so I guess that starting it in the cold and turning it off pretty much as soon as I got it out of the garage meant the plugs were soaked and I had flooded it. I pulled a plug and it was soaking wet.
Luckily I had a set for the service on Monday and changed them all. It fired up quite happily and I took it for drive, got it nice and hot and it seems fine. Note to self, don't turn the damn thing off immediately after starting when it's cold!

Arse. Timing, as usual is spectacular. Down to one car for the moment. Easy enough to sort. Hopefully the parts will be with me tomorrow or the next day. Handbrake isn't a concern - either the guy pulling on the lever was a pussy or it needs adjusting.

My last Stilo failed on the handbrake but when the tester returned the car he parked it on a steep slope and relied (successfully) on the handbrake only, without leaving it in gear! I never understood that.

I dropped the bits at the garage today and he agrees there is nothing wrong with the handbrake. Tester was a bit green. It took him 10 minutes to find the way in and 15 to work out how to get out!😂

Had to order some bottom ball joints too. You can’t tell when it’s all assembled, but there is play in one of the bottom ones. May as well have it right for the summer.

Hope it goes well Mark. But it will, you can handle it standing on your head, that might bring on a migraine.

Just checked on the .gov site and it has an MOT! Haven’t heard from the garage yet - maybe it’s on extended road test!? 🤔

Got the car aligned. They advised that the tyres are quite worn. Can't see why that may be............
Anyway, I've booked myself a TVRCC track day at Cadwell Park in April before I get a new set.

I had a fantastic day yesterday. Only the third track day I have done in this car, but it is the one I enjoyed the most. It was split into sessions in the morning - three 20 minute sessions split into advanced, intermediate and novice (me), with open pit lane in the afternoon. There was a surprising amount of track space available considering the open pit lane. It started off wet in the morning but was drying out quite quickly. These cars really do come alive when you push them a bit. Cadwell was very hard on the brakes though so I kept sessions to 20-25 minutes at the most. I had a little moment braking into a right hander after one of the straights when it locked up at the back while I was changing down, but there than that, everything went smoothly. By the afternoon, the track was dry and grip levels were quite high. I was noticeably faster and braver! I really need to sort a proper headrest mount as the current position of the GoPro is shit, to put it mildly! Sadly, there was a completely avoidable accident. A friend of mine got hit behind by a Cerbera with failing brakes. Despite the fact his brakes were going off a couple of corners ago, rather than slowing down and leaving the session, the driver kept close behind my friend and the inevitable happened. Unsurprisingly, the driver fucked off straight away after his car was craned from the track.

Better brakes and better seats have been added to my wish list, as well as some firmer suspension. No I have lost a bit of weigh, I am not wedged enough and the current seats don't hold me in position. Some seats from a Cerbera or Tuscan would be nice.
I did think that the driver's briefing was a little lacking. They didn't explain the cones for example. One guy went out with someone and he came back terrified as he had no idea what line to follow - despite the sighting laps at the start of the first session.

Woo-hoo! Put a wanted advert on the TVR buy/sell Facebook page for some Cerbera or Tuscan seats. I have just purchased a pair of Cerbera ones and am off to Blackpool on Tuesday to have a chat with the trimmer. Cerbera seats were fitted to late Chimaeras and Griffiths so I am more than happy to install those. I would have accepted a Tuscan seats but they don’t look as good IMO. Current seats - I feel like I’m sat on them rather than in them and I tend to slide about. This is more apparent now I’m not such a fat bastard. Cerbera seats look like this - they are much more sculpted and supportive, but are like rocking horse poo. The breakers usually want £1000 for a knackered pair. Fitted in a Chimaera Second choice was a pair of Tuscan seats. These can be bought new and fully trimmed for £2500 or so. 😲 They don’t look quite right in the Chimaera IMO.

Those Cerbera seats certainly look better. I presume they will be trimmed to match the existing leather?

Sounds like a decent upgrade and they do look a lot more bespoke and in keeping with the curves of the interior than the original Chimaera seats. Good find!

The weather forecast is atrocious tomorrow. As much as I love driving it, it really isn’t a lot of fun being in a low, light and powerful RWD car with no driver aids and worn tyres on a rain soaked M6, so I have removed the passenger seat and am travelling to what remains of the old TVR factory in Bristol Avenue in the Land Rover to get the leather matched for the new seats.
The added advantage is that I’m not adding 250 shit miles to my 5k mileage limit. I’ve already done 1600 miles since October and the season has barely started!

One thing has become very apparent. While the handling is back to normal because the ride heigh is correct, it is all too obvious that the springs and shocks are way too soft. It is hitting he bump stops far too often on bumpy roads and squirming too much under acceleration.
I am awaiting a replay from a suspension specialist who provides the Eibach/Bilstein setup used by TVR. THe is an upgrade to Tuscan 2S option which is a touch stiffer on the rear than the standard setup which suits fast road and some track work.

Is it still on its original springs and dampers? If so it’s not surprising they’ve got a bit baggy over time.
