^ And why should they, so long as there are enough people with money to keep them in business? Aesthetics?
I realise that's not a strong business case...
How a car looks is a vital factor in a car buying decision so it's quite important for the business case.

Yes, except you know that absolutely hideous BMW X7 thing would fly out of the showrooms if it went on sale (it's just a concept isn't it?) despite all of us on here having the same opinion.
I really think that the badge comes before looks for a depressingly large number of people.

I really think that the badge comes before looks for a depressingly large number of people. With the X7, it will be more about 'look at me' or having the latest thing than the badge for the type of people who will buy it.

I really think that the badge comes before looks for a depressingly large number of people. A prime example of that, for me at least, is the X4 that passed me last night. A hideous blob which, to my uneducated and uncaring eye, looked like a slightly smaller X6, with no obvious aesthetic or capability merits at all.

I really think that the badge comes before looks for a depressingly large number of people. My wife is vetoing an MX-5 precisely because she doesn't think much of Mazda as a brand.
Grrrr....

Could you not just buy an MX-5 and have Fiat badges put on it?

An increasing inability to build speed on sliproads is another major bugbear of mine at the moment. Hitting the motorway at less than 50 is becoming increasingly tiresome.

That Polestar upgrade not working for you then? Au contraire. It works a treat for blatting past dawdling muppets. Once we actually get on the motorway.

Yesterday evening I saw a Morris Minor closely followed by an early Marina that was in a rather unpleasant shade of peach (but I remember it was a factory colour). About a minute later I saw a late model 2cv that had been painted in a matt sand colour and had 2 jerricans attached to the boot and extra headlights on stalks next to the standard ones.

A parked in Sainsbury's yesterday next to an ancient X-Type saloon with full beige interior. Bad enough but the owner had also seen fit to source some crocheted headrest towels, similar to those you get on train seats (I think they're called antimacassars) to each of the headrests. It looked bizarre and had the owner, who was old but not as old as you might imagine, not been sat in the driver seat I'd have got a picture.

I just heard the unmistakable sound of a hard charging V8 and looked out the window to see a Red V8 Rover SD1 with a black bonnet going past. It looks as though it has only recently been restored and isn't totally original. He did the reverse fly by a couple of minutes later and despite being probably 40 years old, it still sounds bloody marvellous and in really good health.

I saw one of those Fiat pickups this morning, only identifiable by the badge.

There's some golf event on locally (it's the annual Dunhill Links challenge split between Kingsbarns (I think), St Andrews and Carnoustie). BMW have supplied a lot of white 520d Tourings, all 17 plates.

Vx Ampera yesterday. I know they've been around for a while now (this one was a 14-plate) but first one I've seen. Funny how hybrids are so distinctive from the rear, no matter what marque, isn't it? They all seem to have really deep rear wings for some reason .. .. ..

I see lots of the new A5 in dark colours and haven't really been impressed. However this morning a new A5 Sportsback in silver crawled past the office in traffic and the colour really showed off the crease lines to best effect. It looked very good (although its multispoke 19" or 20" wheels probably helped)

On the A14 yesterday, a spotless XR3 (non "i").

That reminds me that I've seen a Mk4 Escort cabrio (non-sporty version still on its original wheeltrims) a few times recently.
I also saw a Renault Twizy yesterday lunchtime. Looked very small and vulnerable, especially when it pulled out in front of a truck!

Spotted a 1990 H reg Scirocco this morning through the gloom and heavy rain on the commute. Looked in good nick but if he keeps using it in this weather that won't last!! As an H reg is it one of the last?

MG Maestro. Lowered horrendously. Fitted with the sort of wheels that normally grace a "dubbed" VW.

Tesla Model X P100D next to us in the supermarket. It was huge. As we returned to the car the family were just getting in it. Evan was fascinated by the powered gullwing doors and the fact that there is no engine when it set off silently. Then I showed him a YouTube video of one vs an Aventador down a drag strip. 2.9sec to 60, apparently, in "Ludicrous Mode", with the batteries at optimum temperature. That is immense for such a big thing.

A Hertz Shelby Mustang GT500, in all of its black and gold glory. I like muscle cars and this one was particularly nice. Yes please...

As an H reg is it one of the last? It soldiered on alongside the Corrado until mid 1992, so I imagine a handful ended up on K plates.

No, I was surprised as well although if you stand at the rear 3/4 and look towards the front they do appear very long.

Neighbour recently got an F80 M3 in Mineral Grey with Carbon Ceramics. It looks lovely, particularly at the rear with those extended arches. Odd one, no Competition Pack. His wife has an E92 335i which sounds far nicer, more like a BMW straight six, less like a desperate four-pot. Imo a 340i sounds far nicer, more like a petrol 6.
Someone in a Golf R was attempting the start of a Grand Prix in town today. Another terrible-sounding car with farty-upshifts.
