A white Porsche 928 on my commute today, also a blue M2 following me and a blue M140i and yellow Huracan that both blasted past me.

I was at the local Land Rover emporium this morning (collecting some bottles of AdBlue for a colleague's Evoque) and they had 4 unregistered Velars lined up. I only noticed them as I was leaving and from the car was surprised how small they looked.
Actually the whole forecourt was very monochromatic apart from a burgundy Defender 90.

Saw a Velar on the road yesterday in a very smart silver shade, similar to the GT Silver Porsche colour. I liked the treatment of the rear lights and thought the whole vehicle looked pretty cohesive.

Saw a Traction Avant yesterday. It was liveried as "Gendarmerie". I tried googling it for an image to post and found out the reason I appear to see so many old Citroens. It turns out that 5 miles from my home there is a specialist who deals in older Citroen spare parts. He specialises in Traction Avant and H types. How cool is that I must drop by and take a look if there is anything cool to see. Website

Talking of rare French cars; I also saw a Renault Avantime on Saturday. Seemed to be in immaculate condition in that lovely blue and silver (is that the only colour combination anyone bought?).

Two very American vehicles.
The first was an open top Hummer- the original military version, it was orange and dropping kids off on the school run.
The second was a Ford F-150 Raptor. The performance pickup. I actually really liked the look of it, especially inFord racing blue.

On my way home tonight some bright blue lights hove into view behind me. When they got a bit closer, it appeared to be either a police car or fast response Ambulance; the sight of a kidney grille lent my thoughts to the former. Nope - an i3 fast response ambulance it was, and bloody quick once the traffic cleared for him!

A yellow Ford GT40. I thought it was a Ford GT at first, but googling it and looking at the size of it (it was lower than the door mirrors of most of the cars around it), showed that it was an older model. First time to see one on a public road that wasn't near Goodwood!

Yesterday on the road in Melksham, Wilts - an Ariel Atom with a green nosecone, and my first McLaren 720s, which looked fantastic in metallic dark grey. I thought the car had real presence and wow factor.

One for the two wheel fans, apparently it's an homologation model:

Last night I went in to fill up with diesel and there was an M140i filling up at the next pump. The guy was obviously very proud of his car which I reckon must have had the sports exhaust. He started it and let it idle for a minute or so before driving off. He then gave it a boot full as he left the petrol station. What a beautiful silky sound it made. It was very "non turbo" in its sound and disappeared at a rapid rate. Nice. I have been browsing M4's, 440i's and even 540i XDrives this morning!

Much cruder and fartier, to my ears, at least.

Form what I've read, the competition pack (which includes a different exhaust) improves the sound. Unless it's a convertible, how is sounds from the outside isn't all that important, so you need to drive one.

I struggle with the notion of having to have an option or variant to make it sound its best!

I struggle with the notion of having to have an option or variant to make it sound its best! I'm the same, but it's pretty much unavoidable now on everything from sports saloons to supercars, most have a sports exhaust on the option list.

I can see why such things should be there - for people who want maximum sound and are prepared to compromise on day-to-day usability - but I think it's crossed that line to become another income stream from the options list.

I saw a new shape Civic Type-R yesterday. It's looks were certainly not helped by it being a slightly off-white colour but fuck me, what a dog's breakfast. You'd really have to want a Civic to buy one and even then surely the only acceptable colour would be black to hide the odd styling and weird fillets around the grille/headlights?

I've yet to see the Type R but I've seen a few run of the mill ones and I struggle to understand why anyone would buy one, they are just a mess.

Coworker bought a new truck yesterday, a 2012 Ford F-250 diesel. He was saying he’s delighted with the cooled seats (in a region that’s had 72 100 degree days this year, that’s a big bonus) and is also delighted with the better mpg. It gets 13 mpg around town, 3 more than his older F-150 petrol.
He was shocked when I told him my S-Max was diesel and got well over 40mpg.
Anyway, at 5.7 litres, it’s probably the biggest engine in the car park!

Saw a red 458 Speciale today on the A40 at Burford when I was out for an early morning blast in the GT4.

Velar in Verona....colour suited it. I ought to really like this but I do struggle with it. The detailing in places is lovely but the overall effect is just a bit too flash. Like wearing expensive leather Hermès wellies.

Designers (or should that be stylists?) really don't know when to stop these days, do they?

Well said, Chris. I think the Velar is relatively restrained compared to the competition, BMW's massive grills, Mercedes chrome fast and anything Audi does. The Velar detailing is fabulous and looks more like a concept car than pretty much anything else on the road.

I realise that's not a strong business case...
